to not want my 4mo to wear a football kit?

Lighthearted-ish. Bickering this morning... DH has dressed baby in an England babygrow. It was a present from his best friend when they were newborn. It was given with a chuckle, so I see it as something to wear in the house when football is on, for a cute photo, but not to be seen in out of the house.

Today DH has dressed 4mo and I will be out all day. I want to change him but DH thinks I'm being a massive snob.

YABU - you are being a snob. It's just a baby.
YANBU - I am cringing in solidarity and feel your pain. Get him changed now!

LTB
Seriously.

Firstly I couldn’t marry a “football” person and secondly anyone that thinks that awful synthetic fabric is acceptable should be shot.

ConnieTucker · 04/08/2023 08:40

The world cup is on. Yabu.

HoppingPavlova · 04/08/2023 08:41

It’s a 4mo, really doesn’t matter.

justcantgetenough · 04/08/2023 08:41

YABU - I don't have kids but am a football fan and mine would be in my fav team kit so can't see the problem. Especially as England are playing in the World Cup at moment. Who's going to notice what your baby is wearing, where you taking them?

ReluctantFishLady · 04/08/2023 08:41

I don't believe I've ever seen an ugly baby grow, but there you have it! Just change him if you don't like it. Take the photo for the friend, put something else on and he can wear these lovely pyjamas to bed tonight.

Life is too short, and they grow too fast, so put him in the lovely things and enjoy the cuteness when you take him out. DP can savrme this for a day when he has baby.

that’s more knobby and rather sanctimonious.

WearyLady · 04/08/2023 08:42

You are being entirely reasonable.
Take comfort from the thought that he'll probably have grown out of it by next week. 😂

That is this day. He has the baby.

Sirzy · 04/08/2023 08:43

It’s a baby grow. The baby will still throw up over it the same as any other!

Childcare47 · 04/08/2023 08:43

I mean, ultimately it’s just a baby and they don’t care. And it’s pretty inoffensive.

By the time your baby is about a year old you probably won’t care what they’re wearing so long as it’s clean and fits.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/08/2023 08:44

Yep, you're being a snob, but I admit I'd be snobby about it too. Not keen on football kit off the football pitch full stop.

Eileen101 · 04/08/2023 08:44

I think yabu. DP is just wanting the cuteness with the baby just like everyone wants!
I'm not a football person but I say just leave them to it.
Plus he's 4 months old, it won't be long until he's dribbled a bottle/refluxed/a nappy has leaked and baby needs something nice and clean onWink

Hear, hear

youaintmymother · 04/08/2023 08:45

I meant that I'm going to be out with the baby all day! DH is WFH.

YA probably BU but I'm am 100% with you. It feels like a bit of a statement to put babies in football kits and not in a good way. The one my 9 month old has always ends up at the back of the drawer.

I'd let baby wear it but uh oh, poonami/reflux/you spilt some of your yoghurt on baby so now you need to change them...

Snowpaw · 04/08/2023 08:45

It’ll be covered in poo stains / regurgitated milk soon, I wouldn’t worry. Outfits don’t last long at that age!

lizzaliza · 04/08/2023 08:46

As long as it's 100% cotton, I'd leave it and let your DH have that bit of fun

If synthetic material, no way!

CoalCraft · 04/08/2023 08:47

You do sound like a snob OP. It's a cute baby-grow, and I'm not the least bit interested in football. If I was I wouldn't support England anyway. I still think it's cute.

More importantly though, you're husband has just as much a right to dress your child to your liking as you do. If you have vastly different tastes you'll just have to take it in turns until the DC is old enough to choose their clothes themselves.

gogomoto · 04/08/2023 08:47

Take a spare outfit, what a shame you needed to change him later in the morning...

But I think you need to pick your battles and this isn't worth it

Singleandproud · 04/08/2023 08:47

I would be snobby about it too.

I'd be tempted to take baby out in it today, conveniently forget to pull out the nappy wing bits on the legs and a poonami will conveniently ruin it.

This!

It seems such a silly thing to get annoyed about. The child is 4 months old, you'll be lucky to make it out the door before it needs changing.

CoalCraft · 04/08/2023 08:48

Oops, I meant "dress your child to HIS liking".

MoonLion · 04/08/2023 08:49

YABU. Live and let live I say.

UncertainSmiler · 04/08/2023 08:51

That’s one fabulous babygro

CrazyFrogDingDing · 04/08/2023 08:51

Me and my DH are both football fans but of different teams, so mine had outfits of both teams.
The only time they were vetoed was when one or the other of us were taking them out alone because we didn't want anyone thinking we were supporters of that particular team 😂
As it happens, they went on to support entirely different teams.
Don't worry op, it will soon be dirtied enough to change out of and then grow out of.
