to not want my 4mo to wear a football kit?

Lighthearted-ish. Bickering this morning... DH has dressed baby in an England babygrow. It was a present from his best friend when they were newborn. It was given with a chuckle, so I see it as something to wear in the house when football is on, for a cute photo, but not to be seen in out of the house.

Today DH has dressed 4mo and I will be out all day. I want to change him but DH thinks I'm being a massive snob.

YABU - you are being a snob. It's just a baby.
YANBU - I am cringing in solidarity and feel your pain. Get him changed now!

Put a second outfit in the bag so that you can ‘do’ like the teenegers, change of clothes once out from under the parents’ eyes, put some poo on the babygrow before returning home.

SouthLondonMum22 · 04/08/2023 16:24

It's not something I'd be picking a battle over. It's just a babygrow.

Flowers94 · 04/08/2023 16:29

I’m not a football fan but my partner is.
I think that mums get all that enjoyment out of dressing our babies how we want to but dads don’t have that, my partner comments on our girls outfits and says they look nice but he doesn’t get the enjoyment out of it that I do. So if he wants them to have a football kit so he can have that feeling too then they can have one and I’d happily let them wear it out with me x

SuperNewMe · 04/08/2023 16:30

I can't stand football, but seriously? It's a baby gro.
I'm a believer in pick your battles and wearing a football babygro for a day certainly isn't one of them!

Have a lovely day out with your baby Op, the baby fro is fine.
So glad my husband isn’t as judgemental as some of the posters on here. I’d be single and drinking my bovril all alone in the stands.

Parentingbythesea · 04/08/2023 16:47

If it brings your husband joy then just suck it up it’s one outfit, if your anything like me you’ll have say on the other 99.9% of outfit choices

Show me where I've said it doesn't exist in football. I'll wait.

You haven't said that. I was asking if that's what you think. Hence the question mark.

I'll wait.

JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain · 04/08/2023 18:26

Unfortunately of course it exists, like it exists in many other areas of life. Of course it's abhorrent in any form.

Craycraycatbaby · 04/08/2023 18:59

Haha YANBU however I do believe my DS wore a Sheffield Wednesday one that his uncle bought him. It was 8 years ago though so I can't remember but it is something I 100% would not have bought 🤣🤣

youaintmymother · 04/08/2023 19:28

End of day update. It really wasn't a big deal. No-one engaged in conversation of any kind.

Note to self: stop being such a control freak when it comes to what DC wear. 😅

I’m snobby about football kit and football ‘types’ and I will never back down from that position. YANBU. I think football has allowed dim men to sound like they have an ounce of intelligence because they’ve memorised all aspects of the sport and bore everyone to death with their knowledge. Get the baby out of that baby grow.

But no one mistakes that for actual knowledge, though. Apart from others of the same ilk.

OP, I’m sure your baby is cute enough to look adorable even in an objectively repellent outfit.

Usually people who claim to hate football secretly love it. I'll bet you have a whole collection of full football kits from the ages that you wear around the house in secret. Come on, now is the perfect time to open up and come out as a footy fanatic. Don't be shy, you're amongst friends here. 😉😄

What a narrow minded attitude.
My DH is 'a football type', has been a season ticket holder since he was a teen and travels all over watching games.

He's also a senior academic with a PhD.
His football friends (who come from all walks of life) are all lovely.

Your really shouldn't be so judgemental.

Wickedgreengirl · 04/08/2023 20:14

When my son was a baby I’d have thought the same as you and it took me years to let him wear football clothes. However my now 11 year old football obsessed son and me now working for a football club has changed my viewpoint - let your husband crack on 🤣

I still vote for the octopus suit. It’s adorable!

Hufflepods · 04/08/2023 20:18

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter. I would hate it but it isn’t a mother’s divine right to be the only one who picks what the baby wears. I’m sure you choose things your DH doesn’t like too.

that’s more knobby and rather sanctimonious.

I'm saving this for my epitaph.

What is the problem? I wouldn’t even recognise it as an England baby gro and those people who do will just smile. I knitted my babies jumpers to imitate Arsenal shirts.

This sounds amazing. Somehow the knitted football shirt sounds like a possibility. Even better if it were a cardigan... 🤔 DH is a massive Arsenal fan. I nearly named the baby Gabriel (because I love Thomas Hardy) - it was a near miss! 🤣

Wow! I sound like a twat. "We" nearly named the baby. It was on our joint list. Of names that we both loved. 😅

Could be worse, DD had a small Tour de France kit as a baby.

🤣 I actually can't imagine what this looks like. Yellow jersey? Cycling shorts?

If you are taking the baby out why didn't you dress him in what you wanted instead of leaving the decision to your partner?

We share dressing responsibilities. This is the first time I thought he'd made an error of judgement!

In the house fine, but out of the house I don’t think I would unless the logo was small ish, a full kit like pattern as in the photo looks a bit of a party piece like a snowman suit at Christmas time for photos or Christmas morning.

each to their own though, and if doting Dad likes it maybe I’d just grimace a bit.
