to not want my 4mo to wear a football kit?

Lighthearted-ish. Bickering this morning... DH has dressed baby in an England babygrow. It was a present from his best friend when they were newborn. It was given with a chuckle, so I see it as something to wear in the house when football is on, for a cute photo, but not to be seen in out of the house.

Today DH has dressed 4mo and I will be out all day. I want to change him but DH thinks I'm being a massive snob.

YABU - you are being a snob. It's just a baby.
YANBU - I am cringing in solidarity and feel your pain. Get him changed now!

it's almost as if a parent taking a baby out isn't allowed to decide what they wear...
YABU OP - who made you the ultimate decision-maker on the child's clothes?
You put the baby in whatever outfit you fancy when you're taking him out, and his father can do the same.

(on a personal note i wouldn't with a national strip, but a club thing? sure why not?)

Emmamoo89 · 04/08/2023 10:00

YABU nothing wrong with it at all

yogasaurus · 04/08/2023 10:02

I’m with you, OP. It’s awful, sorry.

PinkIcedCream · 04/08/2023 10:03

You should have been clear in your OP that you’ve got the baby with you today because the vote would be more skewed towards YANBU .

I wouldn’t take mine out in something like that but then DH has zero interest in Sport or Pubs, so it’s never a problem.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/08/2023 10:05

I’d have had no idea that was a football kit!

monicaandchandler · 04/08/2023 10:05

As a massive football fan, I love it! It's one day it won't hurt anybody!

Yusay · 04/08/2023 10:06

YANBU, that’s so chavvy 😂

budgiegirl · 04/08/2023 10:07

Blimey there are some fun sponges on this thread! It's just a babygrow! It wouldn't be my choice, but it would certainly be my DHs. My kids grew up with a whole variety of sports related clothing, it's quite normal.

And why shouldn't dads get to pick outfits for their babies sometimes?

And to all the snobs - do you also turn your noses up at those Harry Potter robe baby grows or Disney Princess dress baby grows etc? Or is it just sport you have an issue with?

Yes. I don't like sportswear as day wear. I don't like the styling or the colourways of it. I don't like football. I don't like movie/tv related merchandising either and certainly not before the child can even request it.

What will you do when your child does request it? As they almost certainly will.

AnythingMusical · 04/08/2023 10:10

DH has picked it either because its the first thing his hands went on or because he likes it...
...either way if you don't like it baby can have an 'explosion' and need a full change. No need to question it really...

Excellent feedback! We are leaving the house... Baby is in the football kit! Will let you know how football chat with strangers goes during the day. 😅

👍👍

Fair play to you OP!

Let them wear it to nursery 👍

Yep, all of it.

Elmers · 04/08/2023 10:14

It's definitely not something I'd dress my baby in because I'm stuck up but if I wasn't going to be seen in public with my baby then I wouldn't care. I really hate any baby clothing with any kind of character - especially Micky Mouse and Peter fucking Rabbit. I can't explain why, but I would never part with my own cash for clothing like that.

That said, my baby has severe reflux so this thing would last an hour before we'd have change it for the next ugly outfit

Fair enough. My Dd used to go to nursery in full Peppa Pig fancy dress, so I'd have been pleased with just a cartoon t-shirt!

By the time my kids were at school though, all they wanted to wear was tracksuit trousers and sweatshirts, so I was fighting a losing battle to get them into anything else by then.

squashi · 04/08/2023 10:17

I don't think you're a snob but I've gone YABU as I think it's quite cute.

Well having three kids who are now 21, 15 and 14 I have to say it was never an issue when they were younger. Mine weren't arsed about any of that stuff. They never got into football and took no notice of tv/movie merchandising. I bought them the odd item...pyjamas or a t-shirt, but they were never favoured over other clothes and they were never requested.

My younges likes band t-shirts now which I'm grand with because I do like music. My eldest is pretty sportsweary and chavvy which he cultivated by himself when he was about 15 and past the point of me having any input. I just accept him as he is. The middle one has no interest in expressing any affiliation via his clothes. He lives in plain t-shirts and joggies.

Yes, all fucking horrible.

yikesanotherbooboo · 04/08/2023 10:24

I would hate it but swallow it down because I would know it was ridiculous and snobbish to feel like that. In fact I would see it as a bit of a punishment for my vanity. As per pps babies grow very quickly so it won't be an issue for long. In any case your DH has every right to choose baby's clothes , and during the World Cup it is particularly appropriate.

Susuwatariandkodama · 04/08/2023 10:26

I’m not a sports fan so luckily no one ever gifted me anything like this, I think I’d also save it for indoors only but if anyone dressed the baby in it I wouldn’t change them as it is only a sleepsuit at the end of the day and they get wrecked so quickly!

Do 4mo children have nightwear and daywear?

ohdamnitjanet · 04/08/2023 10:27

I hate football kits on anyone if they aren’t actually playing. Even then, tbf. Yuck, change the poor little thing.

crapactually · 04/08/2023 10:27

@Mumdiva99 they mean when dad is taking the baby out/looking after him. I suspect you knew that though.
