to not want my 4mo to wear a football kit?

Lighthearted-ish. Bickering this morning... DH has dressed baby in an England babygrow. It was a present from his best friend when they were newborn. It was given with a chuckle, so I see it as something to wear in the house when football is on, for a cute photo, but not to be seen in out of the house.

Today DH has dressed 4mo and I will be out all day. I want to change him but DH thinks I'm being a massive snob.

YABU - you are being a snob. It's just a baby.
YANBU - I am cringing in solidarity and feel your pain. Get him changed now!

Don't know why I even asked that question on MN tbh

Everyone's a snob and wearing anything but day dresses or jeans and a jumper is chavvy and childish 🤣

Alargeoneplease89 · 04/08/2023 10:30

It's better then those cheesy done 9 months in jail ones or similar

stealthbanana · 04/08/2023 10:30

If baby is already in it then I vote YABU because why change a baby when you don’t have to? (Laziness only, not because of any impact on the baby.)

but why have a fight about it? If baby is going to be with you then just change them when your dh is working. What he doesn’t know won’t be in issue!

CornishTiger · 04/08/2023 10:31

That outfit would be being ditched in a happy bin after a poonami whilst out and about if it was mine!

pictoosh · 04/08/2023 10:31

No...mine were in babygros at that age.
I mean that I'm not personally given to wearing sportswear as my civvies as it's not to my taste. I don't find it an appealing look.

I meant that I'm going to be out with the baby all day! DH is WFH.

If you are taking the baby out why didn't you dress him in what you wanted instead of leaving the decision to your partner?

Mumdiva99 · 04/08/2023 10:32

@crapactually 😁😂No sorry I misread your post.

DarenthInterchange · 04/08/2023 10:32

Tell him no baby of yours is being a full kit wanker a la John Terry and flounce out

FunkyBuddha85 · 04/08/2023 10:33

Oh no! It's hideous... I'm with you OP. If dad wants to put it on baby when he takes him out alone then fine. I would change the romper asap 😆

WantingToEducate · 04/08/2023 10:36

I was exactly the same when I had my baby boys - I was adamant they would not be seen in football kits until they were of an age where they wanted to wear one because they understood what it was all about.

My husband is a PE teacher and is into all sports, especially football! I’d say the first football kits started creeping in when the boys were 4-5 months old but I just let it go because our jokey arguments atill ended up with them wearing the kits 😂

They are 6 and 9 now and all they wear is football kits!!

I don’t mind though as they both love football. They both play for football teams and they madly support our local team! They go to every game at the weekend, home games and away games, and our eldest son goes to the mid-week games too.

Now that I know it’s a passion of theirs and they aren’t just wearing it because their dad likes the sport/team then I’m fine with it all.

But I completely understand your point about babies / infants / toddlers wearing them etc.

FunkyBuddha85 · 04/08/2023 10:38

Haha I agree it's terrible 😆 although it's a cute terrible. I would think it funny if I saw a baby in this!

mysingingmonstersfan · 04/08/2023 10:39

Don't panic, have a google for baby cricket jumpers. It's too late for today, but you one can turn this around over the weekend if you act quickly. 😉

Cucucucu · 04/08/2023 10:40

I agree with you. I would never put that on my baby , it’s everything I don’t want my child associated with .

At least it’s not Man United!!!

This. The one you got is ok.

lizzaliza · 04/08/2023 08:46

As long as it's 100% cotton, I'd leave it and let your DH have that bit of fun

If synthetic material, no way!

This.

though I don’t think this is nearly as bad as the newborn babies I have seen in teeny tiny replica football kits when only hours old.

YABU - it's your husbands baby too, he should be able to dress them how he sees suitable. And that's even from a Scot!

Tomorrowisanewday · 04/08/2023 10:48

It's the women's world cup that is on just now - tell yourself and everyone else that the baby is supporting the rise of women's participation in sport. and try stopping yourself adding that the England women's team currently has a better record than the mens.

WandaWonder · 04/08/2023 10:48

I am not the world's biggest football but what is the issue? There is nothing wrong with it

Whydidshedothis · 04/08/2023 10:49

AnkleWidget · 04/08/2023 08:40

LTB
Seriously.

Firstly I couldn’t marry a “football” person and secondly anyone that thinks that awful synthetic fabric is acceptable should be shot.

Seriously 'LTB'

Wouldn't be surprised if you were single

LardoBurrows · 04/08/2023 10:50

Well, that is one mother fucking ugly baby grow and I wouldn't choose to dress a child of mine in that outside of the house, plus it looks like it's made from plastic. However, now that it's on I'd leave it and hope that it suffers from a minor poonami. Also hopefully baby will have soon outgrown it.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/08/2023 10:50

This isn’t a battle to fight!

Yes it is a horrible baby grow but I think it’s much better for your DH to have some agency in deciding how he dresses the baby. Unless it’s really uncomfortable of course.

HAVELOCK · 04/08/2023 10:54

I wholeheartedly agree. I think football strips are chavvy AF - if you’re playing/watching then ok but otherwise they’re awful. People bought my kids them when they were babies - on for a quick pic for the gifted then never to be seen again!

Comefromaway · 04/08/2023 10:55

What horrible, snobbish comments Hevelock and use of an unacceptable word.

itsmyp4rty · 04/08/2023 10:59

Babies look cute in anything. It wouldn't be my choice but I wouldn't make a thing of it. It's just a baby grow (and mine lived in them for as long as they reasonably could despite it probably being chavvy AF!)
