God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

Wow, what a hot take for MN.

Zampa · 30/07/2023 20:55

I love dogs but agree with you.

People with allergies and aversions should not have other people's choices foisted upon them in offices and shops, and eww to dogs in places where food is served.

Mindymomo · 30/07/2023 20:56

Do you like cats, where we live there’s just as many cats as dogs.

Itsjeremycorbynsfault · 30/07/2023 20:58

Agree totally

Orteul · 30/07/2023 20:58

No I don't like cats either. They kill birds, as do dogs.

I think all pet ownership is a bit scuzzy tbh. Not great environmentally and edging into norman bates .

I like dogs.

But in answer to your question, I think it is something to do with lockdowns.

I think the main issue is actually the dog owner. Either buy the wrong sort of dog (i.e. dangerous) or not putting the effort in to train the dog or not having the right environment for their dog.

balatonbumm · 30/07/2023 21:00

I hear you. Feels like every cafe in my town is now dog friendly. We actively seek out places that aren't and especially holiday accommodation that isn't. I don't have an issue with other people choosing to have pet dogs but I don't want them mooching around when I'm eating or having to smell damp dog. And don't get me started on the dog shit that isn't picked up.

missmollygreen · 30/07/2023 21:01

I feel the same about children, running around, screaming, throwing toys and shit everywhere.
75% of people will like my dog, a lot less will like random children.

HolyShitDrJones · 30/07/2023 21:01

Some cafes round me are now dog friendly in a bid to stay open - covid hit them hard.

I don’t blame them trying to do everything they can to stay afloat, and if the choice is dog people vs no people it’s a no brainer.

MiniTheMinx · 30/07/2023 21:01

Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere? I often feel like this.......about people. They are literally everywhere, work, shops, trains fine, but I can't even walk in the middle of fucking nowhere without tripping over them :)

I can be quite forgiving of dogs. Dogs are what dogs do because they are dogs. People, not so much. Intelligent, enlightened and capable of reason except so many lack any basic ethics, empathy or even respect for others, and there is simply no excuse for it.

quietnightmare · 30/07/2023 21:02

Hate dogs in places where you eat. Unless a guide dog obviously

Why are people so keen to equate dogs with children?

LaughOutInTheGrass · 30/07/2023 21:03

You’re going to love the thread about dogs at the cinema. 🤣

Orteul · 30/07/2023 21:04

@MiniTheMinx where do you live that you encounter dogs in the wild? I could possibly get behind that.

I like dogs and we had a beloved dog (died at 13 a couple of years ago) but your post did make me laugh. No lies detected.

calimali · 30/07/2023 21:04

I don't mind dogs, but I agree they are bloody everywhere. I don't blame the dogs I blame the people who chose to have them as pets then don't try to do a good job of being responsible for them. This week alone I have had big slobbery dogs rush up to me when I am out walking because their owner has them off lead. Then I have the patronising 'oh he won't hurt you'. Thanks, but how do I know that when they are jumping up at me and putting their muddy paws all over me. I am also sick and tired of having to avoid the dog mess.

We stopped off for lunch in the pub yesterday. Of course it was dog friendly so had to put up with a whining, yapping dog throughout our meal.

And tomorrow I will have to sit and listen to what one of my co-workers dog has been up to at the weekend as she shares photos of said dog with me. Every. Single. Day.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 30/07/2023 21:04

This 100%. Unfortunately it's a lot easier for employers to let people bring their dogs to work than to put a play area in one corner of the office and bottle warming facilities, even though that would be a far more meaningful way to increase employee satisfaction IMO.
Our "office dog" pisses me off, it's so badly trained it runs around and goes in people's handbags pulling things out. I wish they'd just fuck off.

SlippySarah · 30/07/2023 21:05

We've moved to a village where every household seems to have at least 1 dog. My place of work has recently had a visit from a "well-being dog" which loads of people gushed and fawned over instead of doing their work. I can't get away from them and I wouldn't mind so much if I hadn't had to clean dog shit off my DS's bike tyres, trainers and football this weekend from 3 separate incidents. I feel like the only person in the universe who doesn't want to be surrounded by bloody dogs all the time.

Allinadayswork80 · 30/07/2023 21:05

I am a dog lover and have a dog. But I actually can understand your POV. If you aren’t a dog lover than I can see how it may bother you as they are everywhere. Unfortunately there are irresponsible owners that foist their dogs onto everyone else, as well as not picking up after them which I find unacceptable. I certainly don’t think they should be in the workplace (an office based one at least). In places that serve food, there should be a separate area for dogs as some people have allergies or just generally find them unhygienic. Although personally I find people that don’t like dogs at all are an unusual breed themselves 😉

So that they can pretend they haven’t been arseholes for not bothering to train their ‘he’s just being friendly!’ Dog.

Cos, y’know, toddlers.

Orteul · 30/07/2023 21:04

See, it's not dogs that are the problem. It's the humans on the other end of the lead, or not as is often the case.

On the first page!!!

Dog = animal
Child = human

Humans are more important than dogs and it is deeply concerning when there are people who don't understand that.

StartingSober · 30/07/2023 21:06

I don't hate dogs in general, BUT something annoyed me recently. I was on a very crowded train due to cancellations, many people didn't have a seat. One woman had a small dog in a carrier. A passenger actually gave up their seat so that the woman could put her dog, in carrier on the seat! When surely she could easily put it down in the isle? This particularly annoyed me as there were multiple people with actual small babies, standing and carrying sleeping toddlers etc. And no one offered a seat to them.

Orteul · 30/07/2023 21:07

StephanieSuperpowers · 30/07/2023 21:02

Why are people so keen to equate dogs with children?

Dunno but it is a bit sociopathic. Humans have dogs as pets. Obviously children are not pets but maybe some people think that they are/think of them as equal to pets. Probably best not to probe too deep as to why.

StarDolphins · 30/07/2023 21:07

I disagree. I can’t get enough of them! I love them, in cafes, at the park, everywhere. I like chatting to other dog owners & I prefer them to people. I feel the same about children too.
