God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

Dog-hating is a bad look. Animals are great!

Child-hating is even worse! Everyone who wants to banish children from public life needs to reflect. We were all children once. Being intolerant towards children is no different to being intolerant to women.

I don't like people either.

Neither do I really, they are just as irritating. But they may also do something useful in life like fix rotten teeth or empty bins or teach the next generation languages.

A dog shoves its face up another dog's bottom and then wants to kiss you.

i’ve never met an animal I can’t get in with.

humans on the other hand.

Agree. Humans, however.....

I don't trust a person who doesn't like animals.
I also find that the more humans I meet, the more I prefer dogs.

Luckily most of the real sociopaths are here on MN and in the real world, dogs and people bump along pretty well together.

God yes. Please stop making me pretend to be interested in your stupid fucking smelly pets. I'm polite but this pushes me to the limit.

Could you not just say politedly and firmly that you're just not a dog person and get on with your work. Alternatively nod and smile like you do when people talk about other topics that are of no interest.

MiniTheMinx · 30/07/2023 21:58

When I think of every terrible thing that has happened throughout history, holocaust, wars, terror, murder, rape, genocide and imperialism I can't help but wonder why as a rational intelligent species we have come to destroy nature, the planet and each other. And wonder if reason and rationality somehow override empathy?

We are creative and destructive in equal measure.

I wonder if dogs would have taken a cart and a flagon, a days holiday and their offspring up to Tyburn to watch a public hanging? probably not.

I judge a person by how they treat the weakest, the most dependent, the naive, the idiot, those who lack reason, those who can not speak for themselves and how they treat animals. And I judge a person who lacks the empathy necessary to feel something positive towards other sentient life. Have you heard a calf cry? So, no I really do dislike and distrust people who don't like animals. I wouldn't trust them with my dog, but much less so with my child.

gingerguineapig · 30/07/2023 21:59

As for hating dogs, some of the so-called dog lovers treat their pets appallingly. In some cases, by having them at all when eg they've been bred in certain ways which means they can't breathe properly or have terrible headaches. Or taken them out for walks at lunchtime when it's 30 degrees outside. Or leave them in hot cars. I could go on.

You are making the mistake of thinking that because someone doesn't like dogs, they don't like any animals.

No I don't like cats either. They kill birds, as do dogs.

I think all pet ownership is a bit scuzzy tbh. Not great environmentally and edging into norman bates .

Uh huh. Righty ho.

Winterscomingagain · 30/07/2023 22:00

I was in a cafe recently where a large spaniel knocked most of the contents of a table over with their tail. They were really startled and banged into another table. It was chaos and I won't return despite having 3 similar dogs if my own.

Balloonhearts · 30/07/2023 22:01

Humans are more important than dogs and it is deeply concerning when there are people who don't understand that.

Why? Why are humans more important? We're animals too. Mammals to be exact.

Don't see dogs destroying the environment and with waste that will literally never break down, polluting the air and oceans, destroying the ozone layer, having babies then abusing them, imprisoning other animals and tormenting and neglecting them.

Get over yourself. We're not important, we're a fucking plague.

TommyNever · 30/07/2023 22:01

It's the neighbourhood barkers I hate, although to be fair it's not their fault. They didn't actually choose a life in which they're bought by people on a whim and then left to bark all day in their gardens because there's nothing else to do. Their owners are out most of the day and even when they're in, the dog is just there to be fed occasionally and otherwise ignored. Most pet dogs are miserable and neurotic.

You can't say you don't like dogs at work (or anywhere except on an anonymous internet forum)! That is akin to being transphobic!

I have been invited to a work colleague's house. They have a dog (possibly more than one). I therefore don't want to go, but I definitely can't say I don't want to go because of the dog.

Stompythedinosaur · 30/07/2023 22:02

Well, I'm pretty bored of whinging humans, but I guess we all have our crosses to bear.

I don't hate kids per se... more the parents who let them run feral. In the past week alone, I have seen a mum not care that her little boy had gate crashed an adult mental health support group because he wanted to do colouring in. She also ignored her daughter who crawled on the floor to approach the therapy dog.
I saw a group of adults change the nappies of 2 babies on the seat in Costa, despite the staff pointing out there were baby changing facilities onsite. They left dirty nappies and a pile of baby vomit on the floor.
In the same Costa (different day), a dad left his small child alone with a tablet, and went off shopping. Treated the place like a creche.

Boomboom22 · 30/07/2023 22:03

It's very strange to think liking to have an animal as a pet means you like animals. I would expect dog owners to hate wildlife amd farm animals seeing as their pets destroy these.

Irequireausername · 30/07/2023 22:04

Pet ownership is very selfish, don't be surprised that owners are selfish.

People will decry zoos and then lock their dogs up under house arrest. "We need a big fence or fido will escape. Keep the door shut or he'll bolt!" 😂

theysaiditgetseasier · 30/07/2023 22:04

Love them personally and find people and children highly irritating, I dislike aggressive, overly friendly jumping up slobbering dogs but on the whole I'd rather be around dogs than humans.

ConcernedMum22 · 30/07/2023 22:05

Agree. Our local pub is overly dog friendly - dogs up on seats, slevering right next to us trying to eat, it's awful. I have severe pet allergies and it's becoming a nightmare 😞

Whippetlovely · 30/07/2023 22:05

I have a dog who I love greatly but I have noticed that people are now taking their dogs to shopping centres. Now why would you do this?? I’m sure the dog doesn’t want to be in crowds of people and would rather be at home. Also I would never take my dog to a restaurant for that matter it’s a bit odd. It’s like people think the dogs are people and need to go everywhere they go.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 30/07/2023 22:06

@gingerguineapig why not? I've previously owned a dog that was not a fan of strangers, so wouldn't be able to have my wider circle of friends around and would be honest about why.
I have a friend that I know does like dogs, I always offer to meet her at a bar/cafe, so she doesn't have to come here and be bothered by my dog.
I wouldn't be in the least bit insulted if someone said 'thank you for the offer, however I'm not a huge fan of dogs and I'd hate to cause an awkward situation for you in your home'
