God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

I love them.

Humans fuck things up for other humans more than dogs do

What's pissing me off the most with the current set of (newbie) dog owners who only got a dog in the last few years is that they are genuinely deluded that they can't leave their dog at home alone.
Jesus Christ, Shirley, if you can buy a dog you really ought to put a dog run in your garden with some shelter, food, water, space for Woof to run around and a really strong fuck off fence, so he can play and have downtime while you go to work and out to the cinema etc. And if you don't have a garden you shouldn't have a dog.
Also walking in a circle around the outside of your house/office is nowhere near enough exercise for most breeds.
And they wonder why big pharma is finding it so easy to sell "anxiety" and
"depression" medication for dogs.

We need dogs to work, if we didn’t have dogs then we could not do our job. Beyond that I don’t understand the need

VeronicaBeccabunga · 30/07/2023 21:10

Two snarly dog started barking at me in the reception area of a hotel recently, which I find really distressing in an enclosed space.
Their owner just sat and sort of grinned inanely at me.
I asked the receptionist if there was another way to get to the dining room without having to pass them.
She immediately said she'd make the owner take them outside, I was so surprised and pleased.

battleheads · 30/07/2023 21:10

Yes, I agree OP. Definitely not acceptable in places you eat, salivating at my lunch and staring at me in the hope I'd drop a morsel of foo on the floor up. Oh and the yapping from untrained dogs. Why do people bring them into cafes?! Can't they just stay outside like the smokers?

Titicacacandle · 30/07/2023 21:11

It's the dog shit on pavements. I live in a naice area but there are still dog shits and massive smears. I don't want to step in shit thanks very much!!

calmcoco · 30/07/2023 21:11

Yeah, I'm sick of dogs too.

I just wish they were a bit less everywhere. If one came to work I'd be pissed off.

On the first page!!!

Dog = animal
Child = human

Humans are more important than dogs and it is deeply concerning when there are people who don't understand that.

It’s ok for people to dislike dogs or dislike kids. It doesn’t matter 1 iota that a kid is human & a dog is an animal🙄 there’s always someone that twists things.

Me too. I wish dogs were allowed in more places. I hate children though.

TwelfthGiraffe · 30/07/2023 21:14

You’re right about office dogs. A few people have raised it where I work and thankfully the office leadership have kicked the can down the road - presumably hoping everyone just forgets about it, or concludes what a stupid fucking idea it is.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 30/07/2023 21:15

Do we tax dogs yet ? We should. £24 per month per dog to cover provision of dog bins and cleaning up their messes when the owners fail to do so, and a pot for insurance to pay out a lot of money to victims of dog attacks.

I have every respect for dogs as a species. They are intelligent and helpful in farm work, bomb detection, assisting blind people etc etc. Not in the same league as pollinators and earthworms for necessity but I get that they have a place.

My irritation is due to the proliferation of dogs in spaces that I want to be in without being barked at, jumped on, slobbered on or having clean their shit off my children's stuff. They are very unhygienic and they absolutely stink.

A dog is not an alternative to a child. A dog isn't going to grow up and work in a care home or as a teacher or empty your bins. We need more humans to survive, not dogs.

mondaytosunday · 30/07/2023 21:18

Yep, yabu. Sure lots of dogs, but plenty of green space for all- I live in London and if you don't pick up someone is sure to remind you too!
I don't mind if well behaved in cafes, but some owners do not seem very aware. But, parents seem unaware of their loud obnoxious children which is worse.

RollToTheRescue · 30/07/2023 21:18

It's a taboo now to voice any discomfort about being around dogs. I don't mind them but object to them being in the work place. It's so unprofessional and inconsiderate. The companionship of man's best friend comes at a high environmental cost which will become harder to justify.

MiniTheMinx · 30/07/2023 21:18

It's only on MN that I've encountered people who don't appear to like animals. I don't trust people who dislike animals. They are the real sociopaths.

Twinstudy · 30/07/2023 21:19

I love dogs and I have one but I do get what you're saying.

I was googling a car dealership the other and it proudly annouced it was dog friendly. It's a car showroom, why would you need to take your dog? Ok so you might want to know if the car will fit your dog in but surely you can tell by looking?!

Similarly went to a cafe today in a garden centre, again loads of signs it was dog friendly but it was totally unsuitable for dogs and to me at least, a garden centre is a really inappropriate place for a dog given how much they love pissing on trees 😄

I love dogs but they don't need to be everywhere and I'm pretty sure my dog was happier home alone for an hour or so than being dragged around a car showroom!

TruthRevolution · 30/07/2023 21:19

I'm sick of them too. Yapping and barking constantly in campsites, running around when you are trying to have a pub lunch. Pain in the arse.

Titicacacandle · 30/07/2023 21:20

I was sat on a platform last year eating my picnic sandwiche halfway through my bike ride. A dog came up to me and took a shit, the dog was on a lead and the owner just looked at me and laughed. Fucking grim!

I have to ask do you iron your knickers and socks? How often do you buff the floors and polish your door handles?

rollerblind · 30/07/2023 21:20

Totally agree. Love dogs and have grown up with working dogs on a farm. However, I was really disappointed to see that dogs are now allowed in John Lewis. Why would anyone take their dog to the out of town John Lewis?! Baffles me. Agree with PPs- people don't seem to think they can leave their dog at home AT ALL....

HappyJoyousFree · 30/07/2023 21:20

Im a dog person but owners who don't train their dogs or look after them properly - picking up pooh, not putting them on leads or calling them back when they run up to people 'because they're freindly' really bother me. I also think there should be some places where dogs just shouldn't t be unless guide dogs etc. There's a clothes boutique near me that always has really lovely dresses in the window. I've never been in because there's a sign proudly announcing they're dog freindly. I don't want to buy clothes with other people's dog hairs on them!

dogsweetdog · 30/07/2023 21:20

People with allergies and aversions should not have other people's choices foisted upon them in offices and shops, and eww to dogs in places where food is served.

So someone with a guide dog can't go to work or shopping/eat out?

gogomoto · 30/07/2023 21:21

In cafes and pubs kids cause a lot more problems than dogs - local pub has had to put signs up everywhere reminding people to supervise their children at all times because of the mess that a group caused in the toilets, add that to the parents getting drunk with kids ... the dogs are no problem at all
