God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

@ForestGoblin my mistake, you are quite right. Something is different - I've never 'lovingly' carried out my duties, as you seem to imagine we do.

It's very much a needs must situation, like nappy changing.

Some children are not well behaved in public. Some dogs are impeccably behaved. Some people chose not to have children and don't enjoy their company, they may choose to keep a pet, perhaps a dog. This does not mean that children and dogs are interchangeable or that keeping dogs is an alternative to human reproduction. Your statement makes no sense at all.

These threads always descend into posters calling dc names as some kind of kick back

Adults should just have it out with each other instead

KimberleyClark · 30/07/2023 21:49

I have never been barked at, jumped on or slobbered on by dogs while in a public space. I wonder where these people live who can’t seem to move for dogs.

Snowjive2 · 30/07/2023 21:50

ForestGoblin · 30/07/2023 21:46

No, something IS different! I can see dogs are moderately jaunty companions (sometimes). But nothing could possess me to bend down, nose to the methane gently rising from the latest arse deposit, slip my fingers lovingly around it then turn the bag inside out and carry it around, feeling the weight of the chunk of brown cheddar in my hand, until whenever I found a bin.

Could. Not.

It’s no good. People who have fallen for the dog hype might think this (because it’s obvious, because eeeuwww) but they will never admit it. They will
fight to the end to defend their right to carry shit in their hand.

BadNomad · 30/07/2023 21:51

Dogs are a lifestyle choice (like a lot of things). Owners have a personal responsibility to maintain them, and to minimise their impact on others. Most dog owners are good at doing that.

Some people love them, some people like them, some people tolerate them, some people accommodate them, and some people absolutely hate them. But that's just life. Everyone makes lifestyle choices that not everyone else will like.

Witchcraftandhokum · 30/07/2023 21:51

No I don't like cats either. They kill birds, as do dogs.

I think all pet ownership is a bit scuzzy tbh. Not great environmentally and edging into norman bates

I have two dogs, but no kids so environmentally I win, also.I'm so bored of people, I'd love to see more dogs.

It's much worse than nappies. It's not private. There's no genetic mitigation against the feeling of disgust. It doesn't last just 3/4 years

Babyroobs · 30/07/2023 21:51

The workplace I have just left, we all loved dogs, they were the topic of conversation all day, sharing photos of our dogs, boss would allow time off or wfh if someone had a poorly dog or vets appointment. Great place to work.

DuckIings · 30/07/2023 21:51

I hear you. I avoid dog-friendly eateries and hotels. Totally ruined by dogs.

Went to a garden centre this weekend, it was attached to a farm shop. Dogs walking round the garden centre (outside section, not that it really makes a difference), saw TWO cock their legs and piss on the plants for sale. Needless to say, I didn't make a purchase.
Farm shop (basically a small supermarket) also let dogs in. Rubbing their pissy legs and tails on the ground-level produce. I told the staff about the pissing outside, was only a young girl, she just looked awkwardly at me, as if to say, I know, but what can I do?

They can also never seem to leave the house without swimming through rivers of dog shit either.
Which is strange - I find the streets to be littered more so with human rubbish. The amount of disposable vapes I see on the ground now far outnumbers the amount of rogue shits.

gingerguineapig · 30/07/2023 21:51

I agree OP. That is all.

I agree!!!! And Work colleagues who constantly talk about their dogs bore the shit out of me. Especially the ones who don't come into work because their dog isn't well or needs to go the vets.! I honestly don't care about your dog or any of your pets for that matter and I certainly don't want to see pictures of said dogs & cats.

What about the colleagues that waffle on endlessly about their bloody kids?! I really couldn't give a shiny shite what little Tarquin did at primary school yesterday! Bores me fucking senseless.

Calmdown14 · 30/07/2023 21:53

I don't mind dogs. Dogs that are treated as dogs that is. Dogs that can walk to heel, obey a command and have some recall.

But bloody 'fur babies' treated as mini humans or attributed the characteristics and status of children. No. I don't want to see your dog wearing a Christmas jumper, with a tiara or carried about in a bloody handbag. Dogs that are 'very good' as long as they are allowed to do exactly as they please with owners that facilitate this and it becomes 'oh they like to jump' or 'oh isn't his incessant barking cute', 'oh whoopsie he didn't make the garden '.

Though of course, this isn't the fault of the dog.

user1471556818 · 30/07/2023 21:53

I love dogs always had at least 1 if not 2 .However I'm fed up with dog friendly everywhere, really just fed up with people being daft dogs on seats getting in the way in cafes paws on the tables. It's just to over the top
And don't get me started on fur babies !! It's a dog treat it like a dog everyone will be happier.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/07/2023 21:54

It seems the research is right and having a dog really does make people calmer and lower the blood pressure.

😂

TwelfthGiraffe · 30/07/2023 21:55

I never realised that dogs v kids was such a venomous snake pit of a debate.

😂😂😂

I've told this story before on here.

I was out with my kids and some friends with their kids, we were by the sand dunes. Over the hill comes a mother with a toddler on her hip, a 5yo running away from her, and their dog running along too. She has a bag of shit in her hand, and every step down the hill, it's swinging and bashing this poor toddler. Who in their right mind thinks this is ok? Vile.

CathyorClaire · 30/07/2023 21:55

Hear you, OP.

Along with the yappy little shithound somewhere over the back who keeps very unsocial hours...

I have never been barked at, jumped on or slobbered on by dogs while in a public space. I wonder where these people live who can’t seem to move for dogs.

I think it depends on where you live. Some areas (and parks) are worse than others. I do think people exaggerate (like all the tales of "virus-shedding runners breathing all over people" during covid - something that never happened to me nut seemed to happen to MNers every time they left their houses) but it certainly does happen, I mentioned on another thread that I had a bad few weeks last year when I couldn't go out for a walk or run without having a dog hassle me. It hasn't been so bad since, but I also avoid certain places now.

LaughOutInTheGrass · 30/07/2023 21:56

Add to that not being able to leave the house without their small children being knocked over like skittles by dogs.

And every time they have a picnic, these dogs swipe their sandwiches and at the beach they knock ice creams out of their hands. I’ve never known anything like it. 😅

BunnyBettChettwynd · 30/07/2023 21:56

ForestGoblin · 30/07/2023 21:51

It's much worse than nappies. It's not private. There's no genetic mitigation against the feeling of disgust. It doesn't last just 3/4 years

The mitigation is that you care for your dog and want to be a decent dog owner and member of society and so you clean up after your dog. Nobody loves it but it's something you get used to very quickly and the alternative is dirty and will likely get you a fine.

Humans have been shovelling animal shite since we were in caves.

GadgetArms · 30/07/2023 21:56

I hear you OP.

I avoid 'dog friendly' places, there's something about allowing dogs where food is being served that doesn't sit right with me.

Don't get started on the therapy dog that comes to my place of work (a hospital), I'm not allowed to wear a watch because of infection control but yeah let's let a completely sterile dog wander about....
