to think female newsreaders and presenters shouldn't wear make up

|I am absolutely sick of seeing men on TV with normal, natural looking faces, and the women sitting next to them with their faces smeared with gunk. Why can't women show normal, natural looking faces on TV too? What a horrendous disgusting message we are passing on to young girls. "You need to waste time and money smearing gunk on your face to be allowed to be seen in public"

If they are on the telly the men will be wearing make up too.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 19/07/2023 09:05

I knew it would be you before I even clicked on the thread.

ImsureIam · 19/07/2023 09:05

I thought that anyone who was on tv had make up applied because of the lighting maybe I’m wrong.

DRS1970 · 19/07/2023 09:06

Male presenters do indeed wear makeup.

FastandLoose · 19/07/2023 09:06

Is any woman warring making setting a disgusting example? It’s very standard for women to wear make up.

I don’t and think newsreaders should have the choice, but of course they shouldn’t be banned!

AlltheFs · 19/07/2023 09:06

Everyone on TV wears make up, absolutely everyone.
I’d be more bothered about the fact the women are paid less.

CrazyMILonthecase · 19/07/2023 09:06

How ridiculous. A lot of women wear make up because they like it and it makes them feel fresher / less tired. The men you see on TV are also covered in make up, albeit “more natural”.

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/07/2023 09:06

🙄

JulieHoney · 19/07/2023 09:07

Do you make it a habit to police women’s appearance?

Mrsjayy · 19/07/2023 09:07

Everybody on TV wears make up even the men but God forbid a woman actually wants to have a "gunky face" are you saying theyare a distraction from reading news ? Because that's quite a mystonginist view to have.

FlowersInTheSky · 19/07/2023 09:07

I’ve never worn make up, I think people look daft wearing it, but I also think people have the right to do so and I don’t think it’s a “disgusting message” Confused

Yes she does, She also believes all mirrors should be removed from the girls toilets in schools.

I'm always amazed at how much make up the guests and presenters have on GMB - even the men have thick plastered on foundation. I know they start early but christ it must need a jet wash to remove afterwards. The make up department must go through bottles of the stuff daily.

otherwayup · 19/07/2023 09:10

I wear a full face of make up everyday because I want to.

I don't expect anyone, particularly other women to police or criticise my choice.

You do you. As they say.

SquashPenguin · 19/07/2023 09:11

I think you need to get a life somewhat.

Why do people keep feeding it then🤦
It's obvious

They do, but my memories from a particular job I had, that involved media, is that the men are very quickly in and out of make-up. They get 'freshened up' and powdered on any bald bits to stop them shining.

Women get full hair and make-up and can be in their for an hour plus just to appear in the studio. The full foundation and powder for women can extend to the neck and chest, as well as hair and facial make-up. Outside of the studio it looks rather clown like. This is not so much the case for men.

RagingWoke · 19/07/2023 09:12

the men are wearing makeup, it's pretty common knowledge everyone on TV is wearing makeup.

lots of men wear make up day to day.

anyone can wear whatever they want and lots of people, male and female, like makeup.

Applied well makeup can look beautiful and give the wearer confidence and comfort. Calling it 'gunk' just makes you look ignorant.

As someone who used to work in regional TV news I can assure you the men are also wearing quite a bit of make-up. The lights in those studios are brutal. The women just have less muted tone make up for lips and eyes. Most of the male presenters I worked with would have substantially more foundation and powder on than their female counterparts.

This. Not bothered by that at all, OP?

Blanketsburg · 19/07/2023 09:13

"Smeared with gunk" is a weirdly aggressive phrase, and you used it twice. Why? What's wrong with saying "wearing makeup"?

pinkfondu · 19/07/2023 09:13

You do have a choice, listen to the radio instead you won't know if they e chosen to wear it then, if if you can tell the difference

Shopper727 · 19/07/2023 09:13

Smearing gunk? Really? Don’t you wear makeup then if you’re that bothered. I don’t wear any to work because well I don’t have time and I don’t really care (nurse) i moisturise once I’ve washed my face that’s it. However I wear it if I’m going out into town or for dinner out or just generally when I want to. I don’t feel I should but I enjoy it and I don’t think you op should be telling anyone what they can and cannot wear on their faces or elsewhere.

I hardly think wormen/girls look at tv news reporters and I think oh she has make ip on therefor all women must wear it before leaving the house, I have a mind of my own as do all women and can choose for myself if I want to wear certain clothes or makeup I certainly don’t do it because a news reader happens to wear it. I mean there’s so many influences and young people out there wearing a heck of a lot more makeup than a news reader. The men likely have makeup on too due to the lighting. AND perhaps the news readers like the makeup they have on. It certainly isn’t gunk you’re quite rude op,
