@orangeleavesinautumn the bright lights of a tv studio drain colour so male and female presenters both wear make up. Society judges people in all sorts of ways - height, weight, attractiveness, it’s endless. I can’t be bothered about news presenters wearing it. They’re at the lighter end of the spectrum.
What bothers me hugely is MSM - The Daily Mail (and all the others) with their constant litany of headlines about flaunting, showcasing etc, here’s a selection from today:
Kim Kardashian bares her impressively taut midriff
Rapper, 35, flaunts natural physique in a flirty minidress
Lottie Moss looks chic in a busty fitted midi dress
Newly-engaged Nina Agdal showcases her toned figure in a green bikini top
This why women in the public eye don’t go out without make up, or dressed up because when they do the negativity that is heaped upon them is ferocious. This filters down and puts huge pressure on youngsters and their peers who haven’t yet developed the skills to think I don’t need to do this. But until we wean ourselves off this kind of news, the DM isn’t going to stop.
I wear make up, mostly eyeliner and mascara because I like to. I can’t be arsed with foundation etc but I’m not going to judge women for wearing it. There are myriad reasons for it, it’s not all peer pressure and social media.
All through history, men and women have been judged on their looks, from the courtesans mobbed in the 1800s, it’s nothing new. It’s always been a bad thing for impressionable people (and we’ve all been there whether it’s gadgets or clothes etc). There are so many other things we need to address, global warming is a burning issue. The world is made for men, in so many ways, we still need to address gender equality, if we can fix these it might help with many other issues.
