to think female newsreaders and presenters shouldn't wear make up

|I am absolutely sick of seeing men on TV with normal, natural looking faces, and the women sitting next to them with their faces smeared with gunk. Why can't women show normal, natural looking faces on TV too? What a horrendous disgusting message we are passing on to young girls. "You need to waste time and money smearing gunk on your face to be allowed to be seen in public"

😂 with no seedy private lives !

No, seedy private lives I'm okay with, it is pink lipgloss that absolutely crosses the line for me.

I can see how that's a step too far !

MrsElsa · 19/07/2023 10:13

Agreed. But the way you worded it seems to have pissed everyone off!

People had skin texture and body hair in movies as recently as the 2000s. Not any more. Digital makeup is written into many actors contracts now. Goodbye skin texture, we will miss you.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 19/07/2023 10:15

Who the fuck are you to decide whether women are “allowed” to wear make up?

Do you want to wear make up? No? Then don’t. Does it have anything to do with you wether someone else wants to? Also. No.

get the fuck off your soapbox

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 19/07/2023 10:16

I would want to wear make up if I was on the telly for millions of people to see lol.

Intelligent news reporting female journalists like to have a touch of make-up shocker.

Who's the reporter who has the heavy eyeliner with flicks on ITV? I'm sure if she felt it was gunk, then she wouldn't allow that to happen.

I've never seen any woman overly made up. It's not the 80's and they're not reading the news whilst stripping.

hiding5675687 · 19/07/2023 10:18

The men in the studio also have a thick layer. It is for the lighting.

killthekoroks · 19/07/2023 10:18

Get a hobby OP.

SapphOhNo · 19/07/2023 10:18

OP I'm wearing makeup to reply to this thread anonymously. Are you ok?

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 19/07/2023 10:19

Firstly, the men on TV are definitely wearing make up too. Secondly, ‘smearing gunk?’ What melodramatic language 😂

Windercar · 19/07/2023 10:19

I love smearing gunk on my face. In fact just yesterday I was musing that it’s sad for men that they’re not allowed to express themselves as much by painting their face. They could in the old days. (Yes I know they can and some do but general acceptance)

GlitterSneakers · 19/07/2023 10:19

Weirdly aggressive stance on women wearing make up. Calm down, it’s not that deep.

OhComeOnFFS · 19/07/2023 10:20

It's so funny that this concerns you rather than what is happening in the world.

whoamI00 · 19/07/2023 10:20

All female presenters look great but I agree with you. It's unfair for women to spend time on make up. That's all because we're women. The society has evolved that unfair way.

Crocksnsocks · 19/07/2023 10:20

I don’t think it’s so much about make-up but more about their general overall look and what they’re wearing. This morning for example, on BBC breakfast Sally Nugent looked like she was dressed for a hot date - I was all a bit a bit too page 3 for me tbh and I thought we’d moved on from that.

My fave BBC presenter is the weather lady who we’ve seen in all her glory through her child bearing years - Kate Kinsella.

Making a sweeping generalisation about sexuality here. Sally is more of a man’s woman whereas I feel Kate is much more relatable to the everyday woman.

Needmorelego · 19/07/2023 09:05

If they are on the telly the men will be wearing make up too.

Of course they will.

Badger1970 · 19/07/2023 09:09

I'm always amazed at how much make up the guests and presenters have on GMB - even the men have thick plastered on foundation. I know they start early but christ it must need a jet wash to remove afterwards. The make up department must go through bottles of the stuff daily.

No, just an oil based cleanser. No jet wash needed🧐

I knew it would be you before I even clicked on the thread.

I had assumed as much too.

Women without makeup on look rough

I've evidently been looking rough for years then.

Still think the OP is ridiculous.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/07/2023 10:29

Blanketsburg · 19/07/2023 09:13

"Smeared with gunk" is a weirdly aggressive phrase, and you used it twice. Why? What's wrong with saying "wearing makeup"?

This. Have you got skin in the game OP? I'm trying to work out your motivation here...

FFSwhatisthis · 19/07/2023 10:30

ImsureIam · 19/07/2023 09:05

I thought that anyone who was on tv had make up applied because of the lighting maybe I’m wrong.

@ImsureIam

yep, they all have plenty on!

just the men have the boring colours, I expect that'll change soon though 😂😂

RockyRoady · 19/07/2023 10:30

Do people really watch the news and think,
“oh goodness me, that poor women has so much make up on, she looks positively awful”

If you do, I strongly recommend you get a new hobby

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/07/2023 10:31

Women can put whatever they want on their faces (as can anyone). Stop being precious.

If you think the male presenters aren't wearing makeup you're clueless
