to think female newsreaders and presenters shouldn't wear make up

|I am absolutely sick of seeing men on TV with normal, natural looking faces, and the women sitting next to them with their faces smeared with gunk. Why can't women show normal, natural looking faces on TV too? What a horrendous disgusting message we are passing on to young girls. "You need to waste time and money smearing gunk on your face to be allowed to be seen in public"

There is a huge difference between make up to compensate for lighting, and make up which says "cover your face - you are not fit to be seen in public"

Why are you allowing what other women choose to do to their own bodies bother you?

what does it have to do with you?

SwordToFlamethrower · 19/07/2023 09:23

I agree op, I don't understand some of the arguments put forward. Most men DO NOT wear makeup.
TV presenters wear a bit for the cameras but the women are plastered in it yes.

Yes I think it is sexist. The men look natural, the women look like dolls and very unnatural. The female obsession with makeup is baffling.

"To look less tired". Well perhaps we could address the reason women are so tired that it shoes on our faces and then we wouldn't have to try and hide it.

Mrsjayy · 19/07/2023 09:23

Rawworth* sorry Sophie.

Shopper727 · 19/07/2023 09:24

Is there a reason you’re being so aggressive and goady? But you’re on a majority womens platform telling women that their personal choice to wear make up is
gunk, disgusting and we look terrible with it on. Not to mention that we don’t have the ability to decide what we wear ourselves but we do it because we are told to, Not really going to get many people agreeing with you.

if YOU don’t want to wear makeup for whatever reason you choose then great good for you that’s youR CHOICE as mine is to wear makeup if I want to, it’s not yours to tell me what to do or how I feel. Arrogant

The male presenters have make up to compensate for studio lighting, which leaves their faces looking normal and natural. The females have massively exaggerated lips in high colours, unnatural eyebrows, blue eyelids(!!! and if we were born with blue eye lids, the make up manufacturers would be selling us products to make them green or yellow or pink) and other hugely distorted and unnatural masking of their actual face

Where are the blue eyelids, bright lips and hugely distorted/unnatural masking in the photo included with your link?

so are you not wondering why other people are not angry about the imposition put on women to cover up their natural faces by with ugly, time consuming, expensive and environmentally damaging crap before being allowed to be seen by the public?

You speak like make up is mandatory. It isn’t.

Women can make their own choices, even if you don’t agree with them. I wear make up everyday because it has SPF in it, and I don’t have to justify my choices to anyone.

Pawpatrolsucks · 19/07/2023 09:25

They will all be replaced with AI in a few years so don’t worry about it

BunnyBettChetwynd · 19/07/2023 09:26

In all the history of the world women have been told what to do and forbidden from having choices.

It's a wonderful world where women have the freedom to choose. I a woman can choose to go make up free or to enhance what nature gave her then women are winning and so I say I don't care if the newsreader has a flower pot on her head - I'm just happy we live in a society that has women news readers making their own choices.

Are you unwell?

loislovesstewie · 19/07/2023 09:26

What thecatsthecats said.

Stopthetest · 19/07/2023 09:27

Watching TV is unnatural too OP, as is using the internet. If it bothers you so much why not just go and lay on the grass in your garden, naked and listen to nature.

BunnyBettChetwynd · 19/07/2023 09:27

ManateeFair · 19/07/2023 09:26

Are you unwell?

Or a puritan?

sawnotseen · 19/07/2023 09:27

Ps - just looked at OP link and think all the women look beautiful and not overly made-up at all, rather natural looking IMO, the make up is just accentuating their features. Wish I could have someone do my hair and make up every day!

Anyotherdude · 19/07/2023 09:27

I think you’re projecting, OP. If, when you try to put on makeup, you feel as if you’re “smearing on gunk”, then you’re clearly not doing it properly. Chill out, take some tutorials on YouTube and you might feel better enough about yourself to be able to stop lashing out at normal beauty standards.
At least Mary Whitehorse was concerned about morals, rather than appearances…

Emmamoo89 · 19/07/2023 09:28

Yabvu

ManateeFair · 19/07/2023 09:26

Are you unwell?

Yes she is, when MN realise who she is she will be banned like her other accounts.

Zebedee55 · 19/07/2023 09:30

They all have to wear make-up for the lighting.

MissTrip82 · 19/07/2023 09:30

When you refer to women wearing makeup as having ‘faces smeared with gunk’ are you imagining you don’t sound like a roaring misogynist?

Contempt for other women is not making the feminist statement you think it is.

Hadjab · 19/07/2023 09:31

orangeleavesinautumn · 19/07/2023 09:12

Not one of these women is "smeared in gunk."

You really have a poor grasp of feminism if you believe you can dictate what women can and cannot put on their faces.

Babdoc · 19/07/2023 09:31

BunnyBett, the female newsreaders are not “making their own choices”. They have to desperately plaster on the make up and go for Botox and fillers etc to try and pretend they are still young. Once they start looking like normal older women, they are taken off air. Whereas male presenters can continue even beyond retirement age, and be viewed as wise pundits, rather than “past it”.
OP has a genuine feminist point to make, in that women in our misogynistic patriarchy are demanded by social pressure to always look young, pretty and appealing to men. She may have used intemperate language, but her point is valid.

Anyotherdude · 19/07/2023 09:31

Damn you, autocorrect! Mary Whitehouse, not Whitehorse😂

PTSDBarbiegirl · 19/07/2023 09:32

Let's get male newsreaders in full, courful face make up.

Mrsjayy · 19/07/2023 09:32

Mary Whitehorse though 😁

JorisBonson · 19/07/2023 09:34

Bet you're fun at parties.

booksandbrooks · 19/07/2023 09:35

TBH I know what you mean. I had a work friend who didn't wear make up and some of the other staff used to find it ludicrously offensive and suggested she was unprofessional. She was better at her job and more important than any of them though.

The men weren't expected to pay a portion of their salary on beauty products and services to be professional but it was evident the women were.

You also see it at formal events where men have a shave a Chuck on a suit, but women are expected to have a full face of make up, hairless legs etc.

Various brands inc urban decay were revealed to be using toxic substances in their products.

That said, I enjoy smearing gunk on my face for big occasions and sometimes the reverse is true. Men would like to be able cover their spots and blemishes and even out their skin tone sometimes, but don't because wearing foundation is for the ladies only.
