Collecting what may or may not be my dog’s poo from someone’s bin?

Laboheme78 · 17/07/2023 21:12

I have dogs and always pick up their poo. I live in an area where dog poo is an issue but the bins are far apart, so occasionally if my dog does a poo I pick it up in a heavy duty poo bag, tie it and put it in someone’s black bin if they’ve left it outside.

We have a village Facebook group and I’ve just seen someone ranting about the poo bag that has been put in their bin. I suppose it does make a change from people ranting that dog poo hasn’t been picked up at all. But I honestly don’t know if it was me - I do sometimes pass that way but certainly wasn’t today. They are asking for the perpetrators (!) to come and collect the poo.

AIBU to not collect it? I have walked that way this week so it is possible it was me but I don’t know?

Could have been me… I’m a bin borrower too. If you don’t want poop in your bin then stick a sign on it or move it out of reach from the path

BrightLightTonight · 17/07/2023 21:14

You are a CF - putting dog poo in someone else's bin. Take it home

DustyLee123 · 17/07/2023 21:15

Other people’s bins are not for you to use, take it home.

SophiaElizabethGrace · 17/07/2023 21:18

No no no! Your dog poo does not belong in someone's regular domestic bin FFS.
Fucking gross.

yogasaurus · 17/07/2023 21:18

How could anyone think this would be fine? You don’t use other people’s bins, and certainly not for dog poo.

Carry your own shit home if there’s no bin.

Joolsin · 17/07/2023 21:18

I would be so revolted if someone put their dog poo in my bin. You are completely unreasonable. Carry your own dog's poo home and put it in your own bin.

Another CF. Just carry it home and stink out your own bin.

SoGiveMeCoffeeAndTV · 17/07/2023 21:21

Putting your dog’s poo in someone else’s bin is disgusting. Someone put a bag of dog poo in my bin a while ago. It was on bin day after the rubbish had been collected before I took it back in. In my area the bin men just reach in and pull the bin bags out instead of tipping it in the bin lorry so this bag of poo stayed at the bottom of my bin until I got it out. Absolutely vile.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 17/07/2023 21:22

I've never really given this much thought! Never knowingly had dog poo in my bin and don't own a dog so haven't done it to others bins either.
I can see why someone would do it, because they don't want to carry a bag of shit around, but also it is not your bin to use. The bag could split and the contents smear the inside of the bin. It would absolutely reek after a week! Pretty minging when you think about it.

yogasaurus · 17/07/2023 21:22

I’m against FB name and shaming, but in this case, it’s perfectly justified. Absolutely rank.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 17/07/2023 21:22

But no OP, I wouldn't go rooting through someone's bin for a bag of shit that may or may not have come from your dog. Just don't do it again. Lesson learned

WilkinsonM · 17/07/2023 21:23

Don't put dog poo in other people's bins. Carry it until you find a public bin.

SapphireEyes88 · 17/07/2023 21:26

I have 2 dogs, can have 4 or more poos a walk and I would never, ever use someones bin, even when they are all about to be collected! I really hope you (and others) stop doing this, it gives a bad rep to responsible dog owners who pick up after their dogs and dispose of it appropriately.

Begonne · 17/07/2023 21:26

We’re the last house in the estate and get poo bags in our bin. It’s rank when they split under the weight of a fortnight of house hold rubbish and then there’s smears of stinking dog shit on the bottom that’s two weeks old and maggotty to try and clean out.

please don’t do this.

UnsolicitedOpinions · 17/07/2023 21:28

You’re really unreasonable, it’s gross and selfish.

Someone put a bag of dogshit in my black bin after it had been emptied. We didn’t notice and put heavy bin bags on top. The dogshit bag burst and smeared shit all over the bottom of the bin which fucking stank.

We then had to clean all the dogshit out of our bin after it had been emptied - and we don’t even have a dog or like them!

My advice would be, don’t bother going to get it back, but never put dog shot in anything other than your own bin or a council one.

megletthesecond · 17/07/2023 21:28

Do not put your bagged dog poo in other people's bins. It's gross and stinks.
Carry the poo around with you, get one of those special insulated bags for it.

Instawars · 17/07/2023 21:29

Ignore the post, but just don’t do it in future

WimbledonPimms · 17/07/2023 21:29

Probably fine if it's out for collection but tank if it's going to sit there for 2 weeks.

That said someone once dumped (haha) an actual human shit curled out in a take away container at the top of our bin and the council refused to empty it.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/07/2023 21:32

Absolutely vile to put your dog's shit in someone else's bin. If I wanted dog shit in my bin, I'd have a dog. Bags split. Even when they don't, shit stinks.

snappleach · 17/07/2023 21:32

@WimbledonPimms at least they packaged it nicely in the takeaway container lol

Poit · 17/07/2023 21:32

Ug! I don’t have dogs and I would be so upset if someone out their dog shit bag in my bin. Dog shit is revolting, even if it’s in a bag, and even if your dog is just so gorgeous and one of the family. Carry your own litter home.

QueenAstrid · 17/07/2023 21:32

Absolutely gross and very rude. I bet you wouldn’t do it in front of them.

And the PP that thinks you should add signage to your bin to indicate you don’t want random dog shit in it has to be having a laugh.

TheFlis12345 · 17/07/2023 21:33

An inordinate amount of people on mumsnet hate dogs and are precious about their bins. In real life I don’t know anyone who would care about this.

In future though, get a Dicky bag if bins are few and far between in your area.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 17/07/2023 21:34

YABU. I hope someone follows you home and puts it through your letterbox

freetheunicorn1 · 17/07/2023 21:35

Ignore the post but stop doing it, job done!
