Collecting what may or may not be my dog’s poo from someone’s bin?

Laboheme78 · 17/07/2023 21:12

I have dogs and always pick up their poo. I live in an area where dog poo is an issue but the bins are far apart, so occasionally if my dog does a poo I pick it up in a heavy duty poo bag, tie it and put it in someone’s black bin if they’ve left it outside.

We have a village Facebook group and I’ve just seen someone ranting about the poo bag that has been put in their bin. I suppose it does make a change from people ranting that dog poo hasn’t been picked up at all. But I honestly don’t know if it was me - I do sometimes pass that way but certainly wasn’t today. They are asking for the perpetrators (!) to come and collect the poo.

AIBU to not collect it? I have walked that way this week so it is possible it was me but I don’t know?

What are peoples reason for not being able to take their bags of dog poo home with them?

From what I’ve read it’s selfishness. They literally won’t take care of their own shit.

Regholdsworthwaterbed but house hold bins are provided by and emptied by local councils just like public bins

So? If I have dog shit smeared in my wheelie bin from a burst poo bag the council don't come and wash it, I have to, or have to pay someone to do it, unless i want to smell shit every time I open the bin and deal with flies and maggots. If my bin gets stolen I have to pay for a replacement. Its no way comparable to a public bin.

newnamethanks · 18/07/2023 20:48

Don't admit it OP, you'll never be allowed to forget it. BUT what the hell? You put it in someone else's bin? That's not on as you very well know. Take it home j future.

Macarena1980 · 18/07/2023 20:51

I’d be very annoyed if someone put anything in my bin, as It’s always full as it is. But dog poo is disgusting bagged or not… I can’t believe you would have to ask if this was okay.

Nuttkin · 18/07/2023 22:05

Well getting this worked up about someone putting a bag in your bin that’s going to be emptied the next day is quite precious

The bin men won't take somebody's shit bag. They'll put it back in the bin unless it's in a big black bag.

Massively selfish to inflict your dogs leavings on others, who now have to either have a festering bag of crap in their bin, or pick it up and dispose of it themselves.

People who do things like this (littering) are dirty and have no manners.

Side note: the only time it is ok to use someone's bin is before recycling is collected, to pop a can of drink in etc. you don't leave excrement on people's property.

This is so disgusting. It's happened to us before and it makes the bin absolutely stink, especially if some idiot decides to do it after the bins have been emptied. Deal with your dogs shit responsibly or you're not responsible enough to have a dog.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 17/07/2023 21:22

But no OP, I wouldn't go rooting through someone's bin for a bag of shit that may or may not have come from your dog. Just don't do it again. Lesson learned

Surely if the OP sees the bin, they'll know if it was the one they chucked dog crap in. How many craps is their dog doing in a day?!

sunglassesonthetable · 18/07/2023 22:11

Yes why aren't you taking the bags back to your OWN bin, bin borrowers?

Bit precious isn't it, not being willing to carry them ?

Grapewrath · 18/07/2023 22:11

I have a dog
i can’t believe people do this!

Gladreel · 18/07/2023 22:15

Can't those who "borrow" bins simply volunteer their bins as the local poo dumping area? As you have no issue with it, those who do won't have it happen to them as dog owners will know your bin is the place to go, and if a bag splits you can happily clean it/pay for it to be cleaned. Seems to be the best solution.
As a pp suggested - a sign directing dog owners to your bin may help.

Followed my next door neighbour out on a dog walk this evening. It’s bin day. His dog crapped. He picked it up. Walked round the corner. I heard a bin lid. When I rounded the corner, no poo bag in his hand. I’ve seen him do it before. Looked round then popped a poo bag in an empty green bin. Tosser.

Fortunately both my bins were empty.

LadyJ2023 · 18/07/2023 22:21

Sorry im a dog owner and I would never ever use someonelses bin to put mine in thats disgusting

This pisses me off. Sane happened last year during the heat wave, minutes after my bin was emptied.

I opened video on my phone and confronted the asshole and made him remove it.

applesandmares · 18/07/2023 22:33

I'm surprised so many people have such picky bin men! I put bagged dog poo in our outdoor waste bin and the bin men have never refused to take it. None have ever split in there either!

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 18/07/2023 22:35

Why don't those of you claiming your hands are too full to carry your dirty shit bags home get a rucksack? Wear it on your dog walks and shove the shit in there.

sunglassesonthetable · 18/07/2023 22:36

I have 4 different categories of bin. And yes picky bin men. Bags of dog poo flying around on top of the bin doesn't get collected.

Even if it made it into the right bin.

I have 2 dogs, can have 4 or more poos a walk and I would never, ever use someones bin, even when they are all about to be collected! I really hope you (and others) stop doing this, it gives a bad rep to responsible dog owners who pick up after their dogs and dispose of it appropriately.

This 👆

I have one dog, and would never consider putting his poo in someone else's bin. I use a public bin (double badges if not a poo or dual purpose bin) or my own bin regardless of how far I have to carry it.

HappiestSleeping · 18/07/2023 23:10

*double bagged

ladyofshertonabbas · 18/07/2023 23:13

You what?! Gross.

aintnospringchicken · 18/07/2023 23:23

Someone once put a bag of dog poo in our garden waste bin. Just gross. We don't have a dog ,but if we did I'd never put a bag of poo in someone else's bin.
Just take it home and stick it in your own bin.

waterst · 18/07/2023 16:59

If you can't get home without the bags breaking or scratching cars then you either need better bags or to take your dog somewhere else for a walk. Putting shit into somebody's bin because you are struggling is never acceptable.

Yes quite right, I'll teleport to somewhere suitable in future so as to avoid the pavements between my home and the open fields and rolling shire. Thankyou for this most practical suggestion, I don't know why I never thought of it before.

The suggestion was you get bags strong enough so they don’t burst. This was not unrealistic and certainly wasn’t asking you to ‘teleport’. Dog shit is hazardous waste. If a clinic started transporting used needles in sandwich bags but then said ‘oh they sometimes split so we just stick them in the nearest wheelie bin’ people would be very upset.

You need to understand - dog shit is far more disgusting than household waste to many of us who don’t have dogs. You can’t get your head around it as you’re cavorting around holding dog shit all day, every day. To me that’s the height of idiocy, understandably to you it’s a price worth paying for a pet.

My household bin has plastic wrappers, the odd used yoghurt pot. My food waste has veg peelings and old porridge. I cannot get sick from any of those but I can get sick from dog shit. So look after your dog’s shit and clean it up, take it to your own bin or a public dog bin, and keep it out of mine. That is not unreasonable.

Don't be daft. No need for an actual teleporter. If you have a way to go DOUBLE BAG THE POO or take a carrier bag. DEAR ME.
