Collecting what may or may not be my dog’s poo from someone’s bin?

Laboheme78 · 17/07/2023 21:12

I have dogs and always pick up their poo. I live in an area where dog poo is an issue but the bins are far apart, so occasionally if my dog does a poo I pick it up in a heavy duty poo bag, tie it and put it in someone’s black bin if they’ve left it outside.

We have a village Facebook group and I’ve just seen someone ranting about the poo bag that has been put in their bin. I suppose it does make a change from people ranting that dog poo hasn’t been picked up at all. But I honestly don’t know if it was me - I do sometimes pass that way but certainly wasn’t today. They are asking for the perpetrators (!) to come and collect the poo.

AIBU to not collect it? I have walked that way this week so it is possible it was me but I don’t know?

Yuk no of course you shouldn't be putting dog poo in someone else's bin. They mat unwittingly put something heavy ontop and it explodes into their bin. YUK stop doing it, carry your own dog s..t home or to a public bin

What do you do with it until collection day?!

And you seriously think it’s ok to leave dog shit in the street? 🤢

I must admit to shoveling dog shit into the road that was in our driveway.

It’s not a bin on the street though*

Genuinely what’s so upsetting about a poo bag in a wheelie bin?

I'll tell you what. Several times our wheelie bin has been at the end of our drive on collection day and some scrote has put a flimsy bag of dog shit in the just emptied bin before we've had a chance to bring it back up the drive. In the past we've not noticed so 2 weeks worth of heavy bags have been put on top of poo bag, causing it to split. Bin absolutely reeks of shit and attracts flies which lay eggs and create maggots. Next bin collection bin has shit and maggot soup in the bottom and DH has to jet wash it. Do you honestly think that's OK?

RubyWedding · 18/07/2023 07:35

Don't go and pick it up from their bin this time, but don't use anyone's private bin in future. I'd be mad too.

YourWinter · 18/07/2023 07:37

You’ve bagged it, flipping well carry it until you find a designated bin or take it home. I bin my dog and cat waste and as I live at the end of a popular walk that doesn’t have a council bin I do tell dog walkers that they’re welcome to put bagged waste in my black bin. But to use someone else’s domestic bin without their permission is absolutely disgusting.

allabitmadtbf · 18/07/2023 07:42

My dogs produce a fair amount of shit. I bag and carry it all until I see a public bin. I would hate someone else's dog poo in my bin so would never do it to someone else. We've had many of the public bins removed and the council refuse to put them back. Quite often I can have three or four bags when I get home. A man shouted out his car window he'd buy me a nicer handbag that thatGrin

Absolutely gross and very rude. I bet you wouldn’t do it in front of them.

And the PP that thinks you should add signage to your bin to indicate you don’t want random dog shit in it has to be having a laugh.

This!

Robyn847 · 18/07/2023 09:10

Go and collect it you dirty minger. It doesn't matter whether it's your dog's or not. It'll perhaps make you think twice about being such a CF in future.

If you're not going to collect it you should at least put a tenner through their letterbox explaining you've done it in the past and this money is for them to get a company out to jet wash and clean their bin.

PureLife89 · 18/07/2023 09:25

Ask yourself why are you putting it in somebody else's bin and not your own

Jakadaal · 18/07/2023 11:31

For the dog poo haters would you put a dirty nappy in a nearby bin rather than carry it around in the bus or in the car on a long journey? Would you use a public bin?

Because you don’t have to carry it for an hour plus. I put plenty of poop in my own bin including all the random cat poop from our lawns. We don’t have cats.

Yes, the key word being PUBLIC. Not someone's wheelie bin.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 18/07/2023 11:46

I don't do it as we have lots of dog poo bins around my walks but I couldn't get worked up over this.

It's in a bag and in a bin. A bin is for rubbish. I'm not going to be eating my dinner out of it.

No no no! Your dog poo does not belong in someone's regular domestic bin FFS.
Fucking gross.”

This.

Jakadaal · 18/07/2023 11:48

Regholdsworthwaterbed but house hold bins are provided by and emptied by local councils just like public bins

You've presumably never had to clean shit from the bottom of your bin when the bag - that we had no idea someone had put in our just emptied bin - burst when we next put rubbish in.

JustMint · 18/07/2023 11:51

It’s really not that hard to clean a wheelie bin and they should be cleaned regularly.

If your bin is so clean and then suddenly dog poop is a huge issue I think you need to think about how clean your bin actually was in the first place

BlushBlue · 18/07/2023 11:53

Carry something to put your own poo in - afraid it's part of dog ownership.

megletthesecond · 18/07/2023 11:55

I have never needed to clean my wheelie bin as only bagged rubbish goes in there.

The only time it was gross was when some asshole dumped a dog poo bag in on bin day after it was emptied but before I was home from work. It stank and I had to hook the bag out and clean the bin.

WotNoUserName · 18/07/2023 11:56

If my bin was out for collection then I wouldn't care if someone put rubbish in it - I'd rather that than on the street.
If it had just been emptied I'd be annoyed as I'd have to fish it out so I didn't put big bags on top.
If it was on my drive I'd be even more annoyed as no one should be on my property. (I don't have along sweeping driveway, just one big enough for a car and some bins, but still doesn't mean people can wander on it)

sunglassesonthetable · 18/07/2023 12:05

I put dog poo in a bag into the public bins with all the other tied up soo poo bags.

I don't even put it in my wheelie bin because it would be sat on top of a tied up bin bag and the council won't take it.

So I don't want other f**s doing it thanks

If my dog poos in the garden,it's bagged and I send one of the kids down the road to the public bin with it. I live in a town. I don't want it sat smelling in the house and our black bins only get taken once a fortnight. The public bin is changed every few days.

sunglassesonthetable · 18/07/2023 12:06

soo poo = dog poo

@Whatkindofuckeryisthis I'm guessing you haven't had a split bag in your bin?

I haven’t and it would have to be a funny one to cause an issue! I guess everyone has different feelings on this!
