Surely no teacher in the UK would or could affirm a child who claimed to be a cat or a moon or any other sort of animal or object - eg letting them wear non-uniform, eat from bowl, disrupt learning with neo-pronoun requests. Just nonsense. This must be kids taking the piss and feeding bullshit to gullible journos.

I’ve also seen posters on here claiming their kid/cousin’s kid/neighbour’s goat breeder’s Auntie Sue’s best friend has first hand knowledge of this, and again I call bullshit. Bullshit. Any posters who say it’s not bullshit, get off here and write to Gillian Keegan, who explicitly requested examples of batshittery in schools at a recent select committee hearing, and name the school, and write to your local MP and ofsted too. But I think it’s just bullshit and teacher bashing.

I think that they are probably affirming genders (Be kind !) but because the number is so small (a few out of 100s of thousands of teens), hardly anyone knows a school where this actually happens.

YABU, simply because there is no way you can know what every teacher in the country is doing

I know of several teachers in my school that are affirming genders, the problem with your poll is that it is far too polarised in the options.

It does sound a lot like those people who once taught (or whose kid was in a class with, or whose SiL taught etc) a girl called La-Sha, pronounced Ladasha.

They are, my daughter has told me about the ‘furries’ in her school, who go around wearing cat ears etc.
Not to mention the recording of that teacher calling her students ‘despicable’ or whatever it was

If you can identify as the opposite sex and teachers have to affirm, then you can identify as the moon and the teachers still have to affirm. Them's the rules.

I know a 14-year-old who is at school with someone who identifies as a cat and is allowed to do so

No cats or animals at my school thankfully. But plenty of requests in the middle school and high school for pronoun and name changes. All from female students wanting to identify as non-binary or male. All are aged between 13-16 years old.

Affirming trans genders is bad enough and once you go non binary it is only a hop skip.and a jump to the other made up shite that is gender ideology that is being lapped up by naval gazing teens

I think it's just the logical conclusion of gender affirming isn't it? A girl says she FEELS like a boy, teachers confirm that she IS a boy and tells others that, despite the logic and science proving the contrary, they have to recognise her AS a BOY. So why not a cat or the moon?

I have sat through gender awareness training in a school where we told as if it were absolute fact that ‘there are 73 genders’.

You're wrong. There is a kid in my child's year who identifies as a baked product. Teachers have apologised to her for referring to her as a young lady.

I think YANBU, and if this has happened or is happening, it's a handful of extreme cases.

Problem is, once you agree to affirm an identity at odds with material reality, there's no logical line to draw on what's a step too far.

Different race or ethnicity? Why not? It's no more impossible than insisting you can change your biological sex.

So how do you draft a coherent policy that says, you can change sex and must be always and only treated as your chosen sex - even though that is impossible in reality - but you can't change your ethnicity or your species for legal purposes?

If we have to believe people are who they say they are, then we have to believe that men can truly be women, a girl can be a cat, that Ollie London can be Korean. It's all the same.

There are 8+ billion genders, as it is simply another word for 'personality'. We can never know how someone else is experiencing a concept as nebulous as gender.
