To think no teacher is affirming animal/moon/object genders

Greenpotatosoup · 23/06/2023 13:13

Surely no teacher in the UK would or could affirm a child who claimed to be a cat or a moon or any other sort of animal or object - eg letting them wear non-uniform, eat from bowl, disrupt learning with neo-pronoun requests. Just nonsense. This must be kids taking the piss and feeding bullshit to gullible journos.

I’ve also seen posters on here claiming their kid/cousin’s kid/neighbour’s goat breeder’s Auntie Sue’s best friend has first hand knowledge of this, and again I call bullshit. Bullshit. Any posters who say it’s not bullshit, get off here and write to Gillian Keegan, who explicitly requested examples of batshittery in schools at a recent select committee hearing, and name the school, and write to your local MP and ofsted too. But I think it’s just bullshit and teacher bashing.

YABU: I believe teachers ARE affirming cat/moon/anything genders

YANBU: I don’t believe any teacher would affirm an animal or object gender.

I understand there are strong views on here about transgender issues. My AIBU is not intended to be about that.

I rember when lesbians could meet in a venue without being harassed, without bomb threats, without protestors banging on walls and playing really loud music to drown them out, barricaded and physically stopped from getting to the room or getting out of the staircase, or being taken out of meetings whilst still sitting on the chairs, and without men (later hired by Stonewall) running courses on how to get through the Cotton Ceiling (aka their knickers).

Let alone go to a lesbian bar!

Duckskitbank · 23/06/2023 21:14

I couldn’t give a shit about kids identifying as cats. Teachers affirming gender switching is just as batshit.

@Princessconsuelabananahammock9 I remember when gay people could be same-sex attracted without being called a bigot for not be attracted to the opposite sex who identifies as a different gender.

100% this.

Alas I had 'this is just like action 28 all over again' on my bingo card, does the PP reference to gay marriage count, or is that cheating?

ReadtheReviews · 23/06/2023 21:15

Oh wow, I hadn't considered gender affirming surgery for cat people! So a) The Baronesss Wildensteen (sp?) was merely ahead of her time not mad and
b) We are nearing a Southpark/reality eclipse. They only line up perfectly once every decade. Dolphinoplasty anyone?

LlynTegid · 23/06/2023 21:22

I think the incident that was recorded was a child playing a practical joke by claiming to identify as a cat. Maybe they had heard about people 'identifying' (say non-binary) and were objecting to it through such a practical joke.

IAmSalmaFuckingHayek · 23/06/2023 21:26

They are affirming preferred genders, which is just as impossible as a child becoming a cat or the moon.
If you’re going to accept the impossible when it comes to biological sex, it’s not a huge step to accept anything else.
An awful lot of teachers are complicit in this nonsense.

The teacher was happy to report the girls, call them despicable and told them they need to find a different school. Which bit was the joke?

nolongersurprised · 23/06/2023 21:29

I remember when girls could have short hair, and wear what they liked without being told by the Internet that these things meant they were actually male.

Regulus · 23/06/2023 21:31

BoohooWoohoo · 23/06/2023 18:03

I think that they are probably affirming genders (Be kind !) but because the number is so small (a few out of 100s of thousands of teens), hardly anyone knows a school where this actually happens.

Small????

i take it you havent experience of secondary school?

although interestingly the greatest number is in the current year 13, it appears to be on a downward curve.

Greenpotatosoup · 23/06/2023 22:21

Moopsi · 23/06/2023 21:09

Insane people?!

Sexually incontinent, true-dodging, disgraced ex-premier Johnson made this comparison a few years back: “If gay marriage was OK… I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men, or indeed three men and a dog.”

Ghastly, and rooted in the idea that a same-sex relationship can only be a “pretended family relationship”, as s.28 put it. But I suppose it makes the point that marriage, like gender, is a social construct. If we, collectively, broaden the definition of marriage, it happens. And if we, collectively, think there are 72 genders, then I suppose there are.

Perhaps if gender becomes completely unmoored from sex, then we can just go back to sex-related pronouns, single-sex spaces and sex-based sexual attraction not being bigoted.

But in the meantime, if any of you PPs really do have first hand knowledge of schools affirming animal or object genders, there’s really no debate about this - even the wokest DfE staffer would recognise this as batshit. If any of that cat, dinosaur etc gender isn’t actually bullshit, please write to your MP asking them to take it up with Gillian Keegan.

There are 8+ billion genders, as it is simply another word for 'personality'. We can never know how someone else is experiencing a concept as nebulous as gender.

This - people are to caught up in sex: you will be born (mostly) with either male or female sexual organs. This is biology.

Gender is something we have created so why is it so hard to think that people will choose what they most relate to for their own unique personality. We obvious put too much onto gender as a social construct due to years of form filling and stereotypes.

I have taught two pupils in primary school who now identify as the opposite gender to the sec they were born. They are lovely kids and I hope they have having a tolerant experience at secondary school.

why do people care so much - if it doesn’t hurt you or anyone else then let them be happy.

whereaw · 23/06/2023 22:48

@Skiggles2018 8 million kinds, yet the two you know have simply chosen the 'opposite' gender? What is the 'opposite' gender when there are 8 million kinds? How do you know its opposite?

whereaw · 23/06/2023 22:49

Or 8 billion 🧐

Sorry I was unable to edit all the errors in my post typing too quickly on a phone but it did say they now identify as the opposite gender of the sex they were born as.
So scientifically the opposite sex to male is female and vice versa if you need me to spell it out.

I also didn’t use the word ‘chosen’ for the gender they identify with out of respect for them.

whereaw · 23/06/2023 22:57

But if sex and gender are totally different and unconnected how can gender be opposite to sex? @Skiggles2018 Especially if there are far far more than 2 genders - 107 currently. The whole thing baffles me.

Moonandstarzz · 23/06/2023 22:59

@whereaw it's meant to baffle & confuse people so they stop questioning it... There is a method to the madness..

DelphiniumBlue · 23/06/2023 23:03

Clymene · 23/06/2023 18:20

You're wrong. There is a kid in my child's year who identifies as a baked product. Teachers have apologised to her for referring to her as a young lady.

It's fucking idiotic but then so is gender ideology

They may have apologised for calling her a young lady, as that is pretty old fashioned and potentially sexist and offensive. It may well be nothing to do with the baked product, unless that is a fruitcake.
We are encouraged not to stereotype children, and addressing or referring to people by their sex or gender is not necessary in most cases. If it is necessary, then young woman would be more appropriate.

whereaw · 23/06/2023 23:07

Opposite implies that the two are in opposition. Ie. If something is big it can't be small.
Surely to say someone has taken the opposite gender is to imply you know very well what their sex (gender?) is, and that they have rejected it for the binary opposite.
Which is problematic in itself.
But then when you throw in that there are 107 genders surely no one can be the 'opposite' gender? Is that not meaningless at best? Or from a trans activist perspective, transphobic? If a persons gender is innate, to say it is 'opposite' is in denial of who they fundamentally claim to be, and therefore are?

writingsonthewall · 23/06/2023 23:15

whereaw · 23/06/2023 20:22

I'm sorry, I really don't get the problem. If someone identifies as a cat, that's what they are.

I know a family who adopted a cat recently but didn't even consider a transcat. I was appalled.

They have it really hard and lots of vets won't even take them on as patients.

It's like a genocide really. No other word for it.

It does hurt everybody else. I don't want to make my child lie every day because these over indulged kids (no, they are not lovely) insist on it. I hope they do not have a tolerant experience in secondary school. I hope someone pulls them up on this crap before they harm themselves with surgery or annoy everyone else so much they are social outcasts

whereaw · 23/06/2023 23:20

I do agree with you though @Skiggles2018 "Gender is something we have created".

Fairislefandango · 23/06/2023 23:20

Their belief is that trans people don't exist.

No it isn't. Nobody believes trans people don't exist. A trans person is a person who wants to be, or thinks they are, the opposite sex from the one they actually are. Of course those people exist
It's very tedious and disingenuous when supporters of gender ideology pretend that knowing that people can't change sex is the same as saying trans people don't exist. "You're debating/denying our existence!" Umm... no we're not. You're right there, we can definitely see you. You do exist.

Moonandstarzz · 23/06/2023 23:22

There was a woman who had lots of surgery to make herself more feline looking.. This was years ago.. Not sure if she actually identified as a cat though.. Away to Google..
It will become dangerous if these kids start getting surgery to look like their animal of choice like the trans kids are getting surgery to change gender...
