To ask if you support Trump or Boris Johnson, to explain why?

I don't get it. Both are charlatans but seem to have a core fan base.

If you're one, can you say why and do you believe they tell the truth?

I’m not a particular fan of either of them , but I can see why people like them. They can both be charismatic and appeal to a lot of people’s core values. They’re better at pretending they have a connection with your average, everyday person.

I’m not necessarily sure that people like them because they think they’re telling the truth. You know where you are with Boris. You know that he’s going to lie, cheat and weasel his way out of the promises he’s made. You don’t expect anything else. With the others, you suspect they’re doing exactly the same as Boris but are just better at hiding it, so you’re not quite sure to believe them or not.

ilovesooty · 11/06/2023 14:34

You'd have to have pretty shitty core values for Johnson and Trump to appeal to you, IMO.

ChittyBangabang · 11/06/2023 14:34

But appeal they do.

I'd just like to hear from actual supporters as to why? What do they offer?

My H would vote for trump because he put more money in our pocket. I asked him if it was really worth the extra couple thousand, he didn’t have an answer for that. He’s a bit of an idiot tbh. Both of them 😜

cantab94 · 11/06/2023 14:58

I don't support trump or boris (I think all politicians are extremely poor atm and would not vote for any main parties) but after covid and brexit am extremely sceptical about the msm and question their conflicts of interest etc. Therefore when the msm were so hysterical about them both this made me more sympathetic and wonder why they didn't deal with them in a more rational manner. I personally don't think they lie anymore than most other politicians, just don't bother to cover it up.

ChittyBangabang · 11/06/2023 15:09

Thank you @cantab94

I don't agree but it's good to understand the perspective.

My cousin loathes Johnson in all respects, but has met him at a work thing - and he somehow has insane personal magnetism even to her. She was really freaked out by it. Quietly, of course! And no, she didn't bang him.

Clearly that doesn't translate to his TV presence, else that would have got to her too. But anyway, there's that.

Blondey2023 · 11/06/2023 15:55

I fancy Boris, always have done. I liked him a lot but can't put my finger on why. Now that I know he was pulling a fast one during lockdowns I don't anymore. However I didn't vote for him 🤷

YABVU. You won't get a sensible logical answer to the question.
But at least they both know what a woman is and for.

UsingChangeofName · 11/06/2023 16:09

If you watch people interviewed at Trump / Republican party rallies, there is a sort of brain washing culture though.

So most of the people actually do seem to believe the ludicrous stuff he spouts about conspiracy theories and election rigging and so forth. They presumably live with and or socialise with people who think the same as them, and they watch the particular "news stations" that support their theories, in the same way people used to read the particular newspapers where headlines / reports / stories echoed what they were already thinking . These days it is more about algorithms on your social media, but same principle - you end up in an echo chamber and not really thinking rationally.

longwayoff · 11/06/2023 16:11

Like calls to like. What narcissist doesn't love a reflection of his or her own image? Honest people expect other people to be honest too. Dishonest people, accustomed to lying, expect other people to be just like them and to lie and deceive as a matter of habit. In their eyes, this is an admirable trait.

CindersAgain · 11/06/2023 16:13

My mum voted for Johnson because she had fallen down a Facebook rabbit hole and was terrified of us being invaded by tens of millions of Turkish immigrants if we stayed in the EU.

Yes that makes sense.

Lottapianos · 11/06/2023 16:15

'They can both be charismatic'

They're not remotely charismatic. Thats all just hype. They're tedious, boring old wind bags who are only interested in themselves. Both full of endless martyrdom. Shit, rambling public speakers. Cheap little showmen, nothing more

mommabear64 · 11/06/2023 16:17

Hate johnson with a passion. Hes everything i hate and now gave reese mog a knighthood so i like him even less. Typical private school toff with everything handed on a plate and no idea of what real life is really like. I hated trump to the point i went on an anti trump rally but looking back now, he was better than some presidents tbh. I don't like him as a person but he didn't start unnecessary wars, he weeded out and shook up the institution of US politics and compare that to obama who was given a nobel peace prize yet i think he went to war with syria within hours of getting in to office 🙄 lets not even go there with biden. He's currently a laughing stock in the uk. So yeah Trump wasn't so bad after all. On reflection.

Sarahtm35 · 11/06/2023 16:23

used to like Boris before he became PM but don’t like the way he handled covid.
not a massive fan of Trump or anything but he’s a proactive president, is the only president in history to not start a war AND he proactively went out there and built up communication with leaders like Kim Jong un who later signed peace deals with South Korea off the back of this.
the establishment and media don’t like him because he’s not part of the ‘club’ and he can’t take back handers or be manipulated in the same way like Biden can (who lets face it is a babbling old man)

Totally agree. Hes a business man not a politician. He knows how to shmooze rich men like ung and get what he wants. I have always said that communication with north korea is better than threats.

mommabear64 · 11/06/2023 16:34

Biden is a little old man that should be in a nursing home. I cannot believe how someone like him can be running a country. So it begs the question, who is really running the show?

Yes. They totally know that women have grabbable pussy, and you can fuck them whilst your wife has cancer.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 11/06/2023 16:50

I’ve never supported either of them but in the past Boris came off as harmless enough and very funny when as Mayor. Then I saw him on stage at a Young Conservatives housing conference whilst he was mayor, came across as mad as a box of frogs (I’m still half and half as to whether it’s put on or it’s him) but couldn’t see the charm to be honest. Then I saw him being interviewed across the road from the train station where I worked, again not much charm.

PermanentTemporary · 11/06/2023 16:56

I met a man at work (UK) who liked Trump. He said 'he really tells it like it is'. The guy was an older man with a lot of health problems. This is completely incomprehensible to me as in my view the orange president spouts an unending stream of mixed ignorant shit and lies. But I guess it's interesting that he saw him that way, as a truth teller.

Surely, this is another massive reason that highlights why we need to eradicate men like this from power. Vile individuals who treat women appallingly.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 11/06/2023 17:07

Boris should have stayed a journalist. He was very good at that. He is clever but bored by detail and I’m not sure really believes in anything.
starmer will be just as incompetent but with added prissiness and sanctimony. And spite. God help us.
