To ask if you support Trump or Boris Johnson, to explain why?

I don't get it. Both are charlatans but seem to have a core fan base.

If you're one, can you say why and do you believe they tell the truth?

@Clavinova may I be so bold as to point out a mistake you have made once or twice.
Namely, continuing to support a law breaking liar who appointed a known sex pest to a position of responsibility and continuously making excuses for said individuals appauling behaviour.

jgw1 · 14/07/2023 22:30

A stunning lack of self-awareness here.
That is certainly true of anyone who thinks that Trump or Johnson has anyone but Trump and Johnson's interests at heart in all that they do.

SingingNettles · 14/07/2023 22:37

And re the latest with Trump, he and the Republicans are furiously pushing the angle that the FBI has been weaponized by the Democrats, in order to persecute the Republicans, and are criticizing the FBI director, Christopher Wray, in the harshest terms.

Christopher Wray is registered Republican.
He was first appointed to a government role by George W Bush, a Republican.
He was nominated to be the FBI Director by Donald Trump.
In a Senate vote, every Republican senator voted to confirm his appointment (a few Democrats voted against).

But now Trump voters think he’s overseeing some evil anti-Republican scheme, and it’s all the fault of the Democrats.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so terrifying.

The link shows the vote share per group and illustrates that Trump did not gain the 'largest share' of votes from any minority ethnic group. This counters what the PP said.

Christoper Wray was held in the highest esteem by Republicans, right up until the point that the investigation into Donald Trump, re his (extreme) mishandling of classified documents was opened.

Indeed, here are Trump’s own words from when he nominated Mr Wray for the role:

“I am proud to announce Christopher as my choice as the director of the FBI. He is an impeccably qualified individual, and I know that he will again serve his country as a fierce guardian of the law and model of integrity once the Senate confirms him to lead the FBI”

And every single Republican senator backed him too.

If you have taken the time to read the indictment filed against Trump, the evidence of his substantial and deliberate criminal wrongdoing is overwhelming. He is even on tape committing a crime, and acknowledging that it’s a crime.

Isnt it convenient that Wray has gone from being a Republican, and a fierce guardian of the law and model of integrity, the second that Donald has committed a serious crime?

SingingNettles · 14/07/2023 22:53

That should read “Isnt it convenient that Wray has gone from being a Republican, and a fierce guardian of the law and model of integrity, to an evil, corrupt Democrat who is visciously targeting Republicans* (Trump) the second that Donald has committed a serious crime?”

For me, the worst thing he did was at the end of his presidency - inspiring something akin to a terrorist attack against the US government, based on the plain and obvious lie that he actually won the election.

In essence, he tried to overthrow democracy, through violence. It led to deaths and injuries, and some of his own supporters being jailed for years.

I think we came within a whisker of elected officials being attacked or killed as a result of Trump’s actions.

Evil and treacherous in the extreme.

You've been misled. Jan 6th was barely more than a collection of idiots wandering around the capitol building.

For one, he had absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, he's on video telling his people to go home peacefully.

For another, many of them were actually let into the building by police (who even posed for selfies).

Do you know that not a single one of them had a gun? Very difficult to seriously try to overthrow a government without guns...

The only person killed was a lady who was shot by a secret service agent while looking through a window.

I would like to know your thoughts on the events of 29/05/19 at the white house, and where you'd put it on the terrorism scale.

A poor response - Trump's motives are irrelevant.

If he's an egotist who desires adoration, and his way of achieving it is by giving his voters what they ask for, then why should anybody care?

If Trump had managed to give his supporters what they want then he would campaign on his record rather than spend his time stirring up hatred and othering people. Unless of course by saying he gives people what they want you mean a target to other and hate?

Citation needed. You have no idea what he campaigns on.

They wanted:
A big beautiful wall - partially achieved
Lower taxes - achieved
Cheaper insulin - achieved
Energy independence - achieved
Lower prices - achieved
American jobs - achieved
No new wars - achieved
Steps toward peace with hostile nations - achieved

I'm sure there's more but all I can quickly think of off-hand.

This is what his voters want, so I have to ask what your problem is with the above?

So sexual harrassment isn't ok, and neither is the promotion of sex pests.

Well its taken a year, but at least we have achieved that understanding.

Well done.

Additionally if you would like to comment on how steps towards peace with hostile nations such as Russia and China are going I would be much obliged.

"Energy independence is the state in which a nation does not need to import energy resources to meet its energy demand. Energy security means having enough energy to meet demand and having a power system and infrastructure that are protected against physical and cyber threats."

Since the US imported energy throughout the time Trump was president then it is not true to say that he made the US energy independent by that definition. Thanks. for your assistance in this matter.

I think the Russian question would be best levied at the current administration, don't you think?
