To think she made the coffee too hot on purpose?

Just need some perspective as I nearly complained but then didn't want to be "that person" especially in front of my son. I've just been on a long walk with dogs and son, all lovely and we ended up in a little coffee shop that also sells plants and groceries.

I've been in once before and whenever I go, the lady that works there ways seems to look me up and down in a judgemental way. I thought I was imagining it so went again today.

I ordered a cappacino for me and lemonade for my son. We got the lemmondae instantly but then I had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes for my coffee. She literally served everyone else before me (even the people that came afterwards). My son had finished his lemondade. When I finally received my coffee it was scalding hot and I burned my tongue. I had to wait another 10 minutes for it to cool down. AIBU to think she has something against me for no reason? I've never been rude to her and don't know her. Or am I being paranoid?

Ha ha ! Hot coffee !

greenstrawberry · 11/06/2023 13:37

regardless of the coffee incident (which there is no way to tell if she did it on purpose or not) the fact she served everyone before you is rude.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 11/06/2023 13:37

Coffee? Served hot? Whatever next!

Hmm
Readyplayerthr33 · 11/06/2023 13:37

Why didn’t you take it back? Milk burns. A scolding hot cappuccino means the milk was overheated and wouldn’t taste good.

Why did you just sit there whilst she served everyone and made their drinks but not yours without asking?

Sonnywith · 11/06/2023 13:37

What??

Sirzy · 11/06/2023 13:38

A cup of coffee being hot? Wow I’m shocked!

yellowsmileyface · 11/06/2023 13:38

You've literally been in once before.

I seriously doubt she has enough of an issue with you to want to cause you physical injury.

Rollonannualeave · 11/06/2023 13:39

I did go back in to inquire and she said it was on the way. 5 mins later it finally came.

Coffee is supposed to be hot.

Confrontayshunme · 11/06/2023 13:39

YABU A cappucino should be hot, so I don't think that is her fault. If she was making all the drinks, as a barista, it is easier to take several orders then do a bunch of coffees at once. Maybe she has RBF. I wouldn't give it too much thought.

Not just hot. Scalding. And I drink plenty of coffees believe me!

Honestly this is paranoia. If she wanted to have a go she’d do it in a way that didn’t risk legal liability.

Lacucuracha · 11/06/2023 13:41

Is OP the reason why coffee cups carry a ‘Caution: content hot” warning?

Ridiculous. I always ask for my coffee to be EXTRA hot and it’s still not that hot.

Scalottia · 11/06/2023 13:41

I despair.

Hankunamatata · 11/06/2023 13:42

Complain about the wait but coffee being hot - wise up

Rollonannualeave · 11/06/2023 13:42

I've never had a coffee in an open cup that takes 10 minutes to cool down enough to be drinkable. She also plonked it down on the table quite carelessly. It just all felt off. Perhaps I'm being paranoid and she does have RBF.

HoppingPavlova · 11/06/2023 13:44

If it was that hot the milk would have been scalded and undrinkable, which doesn’t seem to be the case?

Do you know at what temperature coffee is brewed? Might help with the coffee being hot shock.
It's warm weather, cup was probably i sulated or good quality....

Or you are just pulling our leg🙂

Temporaryname158 · 11/06/2023 13:44

Just don’t go there again. You are investing too much in this!

3dogsandarabbit · 11/06/2023 13:45

If you've only been in there once before I very much doubt she would remember you.

SouthLondonMum22 · 11/06/2023 13:45

Surely if she had something against you, you'd be more likely to get cold coffee or just at the right temp coffee to get rid of you quicker?

She probably doesn't even remember you from before.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/06/2023 13:46

I drink plenty of coffees believe me!

Do you think all the caffeine might be making you a bit...twitchy?

Rollonannualeave · 11/06/2023 13:47

It was pretty watery to be honest. Perhaps not enough milk in it. I know I am overthinking this but the whole experience was just shit and my tongue is still scalded from that first sip.

Do you have any other paranoia symptoms/hypervigilance/ trauma issues?

I think I was on "full alert" for a while when processing trauma. But no thinking a server has it "in for you" isn't normal...
