M&S Super Nutty Wholefood Salad catastrophe?

I LOVE M&S Super Nutty Wholefood Salad and it has been my go-to meal option for years whenever I travel. I tried to get a few yesterday prior to a business trip and it wasn’t available. Tried two other shops on the motorway - no joy.
Eventually I found a smaller version, minus the salad leaves and humous. But the humous and leaves were an integral part of the salad.
Does anyone know whether M&S have discontinued the original one? Everyone I know eats them so they’re presumably quite popular, so why would they be discontinued? There’s no mention on the internet of this disastrous development. What’s going on? Please help!

So I think they've made some of their salads smaller recently?

I used to really like the lentil and hot smoked salmon salad, which was a good size for a full meal. But they've very recently shrunk it down to a side salad size (and charging the same price of course).

I'm trying to make this make sense

The theory is that if everyone wants the prawn sandwich and you stock more, then they are left with a load of the other ones. If you stock no prawn sandwiches then people have to buy other kinds and the sales of those increases. He used sandwiches as an example as, shops know that people don’t get long for lunch breaks so wouldn’t be able to go from shop to shop looking for what they wanted and would choose the next best one.

Wish I could remember where I read it but it was a few years ago.

As a result of this thread I've added the Super Nutty thing to my Ocado order!

amoretti · 26/05/2023 06:47

My son misses the M&S Duck burgers they started doing in their summer bbq range. Every time I went to buy them they'd sold out so when I did see them I'd buy a few packs at a time.

They've stopped doing them....still do the bao buns they went in though!

Also strawberry mousse. My favourite. They kept the chocolate, lemon and raspberry but the sell out was always the strawberry.....and they stopped it! Why??

amoretti · 26/05/2023 06:48

Oh and toffee popcorn! It was my treat every Saturday when I was younger....

Gone!

The Chocolate Cheesecake Brownie was a thing of beauty. Sadly long gone...

Oh god. That was the absolute best.

2kids2catsnolife · 26/05/2023 07:29

I'm going shopping today and I'm going to see if I can get one of these for lunch, I will report back 😅 Also, we should send this thread to M&S!

I haven’t forgiven them for discontinuing a pasta salad with cherry tomatoes & Parmesan years ago, or more recently the spaghetti bucatini ready meal. I rarely get lunch from there these days as they have all the same pasta salads from years ago, except the one I liked, and occasionally have a nice “special edition” sandwich but you know it’ll vanish again 🙄

You can stillbuy the prawn bucatini meal. One of my favourites before I had to go low carb.

The bombay mix is another sad disappearance. It was by far the best one anywhere and I got a bit addicted during lockdown. It vanished mid Covid, never to be seen again.

hotchocdrinker · 26/05/2023 12:33

Don't panic folks! I picked this up this morning!

I'm still gutted that their packaged 2 slices of chocolate cheesecake are no longer available. I loved it so much!!

sadieshavingashindig · 26/05/2023 13:08

@ZigZagIntoTheBlue Oh these were lovely!

Crikeyalmighty · 26/05/2023 13:08

@ZigZagIntoTheBlue oh my god- that was seriously good stuff!!

I think that's the one the OP says is the replacement. Without the leaves and without the hummus.

LoobyDop · 26/05/2023 13:27

My biggest loss is the little shot-glass-sized puddings for £1. They were just perfect for a bit of something sweet after a sandwich. There was a key lime pie, a panna cotta and a chocolate mousse, and they were all lovely.

I use to love the patas bravas they did, but yep discontinued I guess 🤷‍♀️

They did a nice patatas bravas thing in the deli range. Went looking for it this morning and it wasn’t there. Bugger.

It was a bacon one-I’m not a prawn fan unfortunately!

Empty shelf but think this is a space where the bigger one normally is.

I agree with all the pps saying that M & S are notorious for discontinuing popular items. I could make a huge list of things over the years which they've 'disappeared'. And they're all really popular things which tended to sell out fast, so what's the thinking behind this?

So many....a delicious honey and sunflower loaf years ago, a lovely avocado/pine nut/mayonnaise dip (evil for calories), so many pastries etc etc

I could understand it if these things weren't selling. I used to have a friend who worked in management at M & S, but she left years ago so I've lost my hotline to the thinking!

QuintanaRoo · 26/05/2023 14:58

They also do a thing where they just stop stocking it at one branch. We have two food halls in town and my nearest used to stock gluten free cheese rolls. I used to buy them a couple of times a week and they were often sold out so popular. Now they don’t stock them but the other branch still does. The gluten free offerings have nose dived lately.

It doesn't sound like it makes economic sense to stop selling really popular foodstuffs. 🙄

I agree. They don’t stop making Percy Pigs to encourage people to buy other sweets.

woofrood · 26/05/2023 17:56

Fear not, my friends!
I just grabbed myself one. I beieve it's the right one - it's got a tahini dip and some green leaves.

No that’s not it. Confusingly that’s the small one. No salad leaves, no hummus.

QuintanaRoo · 26/05/2023 18:42

And annoy8ngly it looks like they’ve changed the small one, didn’t use to have a bean dip. Just the ginger and soy dressing.

sadieshavingashindig · 26/05/2023 19:38

I really miss the tuna, white bean and red onion salad that was in the 3 for £7 deli section.
