If you could live anywhere in Scotland...?

Inspired by the similar thread for England, if you could live anywhere in Scotland where would you live? We are currently in the north of England but I'm originally from Scotland and would love to move back when we retire. Absolutely love the West coast and spent a lot of holidays there. But where should we be considering? Don't mind being a bit remote as long as we are a drive away from a city.

I'm currently where I want to live in Scotland. I'm in East Lothian, my only want is a bigger house!!!

I'm pretty rural, but still close enough to Edinburgh that I don't miss out on the city life that I also love

Mull.
Def Mull..

Happy where I am, in Glasgow. Would like to live in something a little bit quieter. I have Nellie the Elephant living upstairs and congenital door slammers next door.

I haven’t visited many of the beautiful places in Scotland, so based on where I’ve visited, probably Edinburgh. Although I really liked Glasgow too.

Newtonmore area.

My bit of Scotland is vaguely Perth & Kinross , I look out onto fields ,hills and sheep but only an hour from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, 20 minutes from gleneagles railway station for direct trains to London . Perfect !

ApolloandDaphne · 25/05/2023 09:29

I live in my perfect spot in Scotland. I live in St Andrews and would not want to be anywhere else.

Aaron95 · 25/05/2023 09:33

If I could live anywhere it would be somewhere around the Arisaig area. It's just beautiful up there with sandy beaches, mountains in the background and is on the coast so less midgies.

West highlands, around Dornie or Plockton.
Grew up in the east highlands and could happily retire to Ballater or similar sized town

That or the west end of Glasgow at the other end of the remoteness scale

I'm in Glasgow but we went up to Elgin last year and I fell in love with the whole area, just perfect.

Fraudornot · 25/05/2023 10:29

Love hearing about these areas and sends me straight to rightmove to look them up!

Argyll and Bute. Edinburgh. Orkney. West End of Glasgow. Anywhere really.

ScrantonDunderMifflin · 25/05/2023 10:38

Edinburgh 🥺😍

Wittyname10 · 25/05/2023 10:39

We are in South Lanarkshire, near Biggar. 45 mins from Edinburgh and Glasgow, Biggar is a great wee town and Lanark is under-rated as well. The only thing missing are decent trains links to Edinburgh.

Bettysnow · 25/05/2023 10:42

Isle of sky just perfect 🥰

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/05/2023 10:45

Ardrossan or Brodick.

DontTouchMyMug · 25/05/2023 10:47

Fife for LIFE 🙂

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/05/2023 10:49

Perth, Crieff or Comrie (realistically)
Somewhere remote on the 500 (in my dreams)

LadyDanburysHat · 25/05/2023 10:50

I live in the Borders and love it. But I wish I was closer to the coast. I'd probably like to be somewhere in East Lothian eventually.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 25/05/2023 10:50

West end of Glasgow.
I'm currently in a small town on the Clyde.

Moreorlessmentallystable · 25/05/2023 10:51

Aviemore, Pitlochry or if I was mega rich and didn't have to work I would love in one of the islands like Iona, Mull or Arran.

Haha, I could have written this word for word! Also rural-ish East Lothian, love it but also would like a slightly bigger house but prices here mean you're often swapping size for location. Gorgeous place to live though! I've also always quite fancied Dunkeld, or maybe somewhere near Aviemore.

romany4 · 25/05/2023 10:52

Stirling

it's my happy place

AutisticLegoLover · 25/05/2023 11:27

This thread is making me want to visit Scotland more than ever. I've been to Airdrie for a night for a wedding and that's it.

Fraudornot · 25/05/2023 12:05

Are those mentioning the islands living there? Its a particular lifestyle isn't it - quite difficult at times I would imagine.
