If you could live anywhere in Scotland...?

Inspired by the similar thread for England, if you could live anywhere in Scotland where would you live? We are currently in the north of England but I'm originally from Scotland and would love to move back when we retire. Absolutely love the West coast and spent a lot of holidays there. But where should we be considering? Don't mind being a bit remote as long as we are a drive away from a city.

The Belach na bar though 😱

I went completely white and had the cold sweats driving that.

Great holidays to be had there!

I could have the whole of this thread there for a holiday 😁 would have to compete with Airdrie and Ardrossan but I'd try.

Largs for me! Lots of happy holiday memories there!

Ooo, yes! Is Nardini's ice cream parlour still there? Wonderful place.

Pretty much anywhere on the east coast would suit me. I'm from Aberdeen and have lived in Angus, Fife, Moray, and Edinburgh and I'd be quite happy to return to any of them. I live a long way from the sea now and really miss it.

Those saying Orkney or Shetland - not in the winter you wouldn’t!

I’m quite used to gale force winds and horizontal rain…

Gourock, I love the views from the Clyde, and the people are so friendly.

Another for Aberdeenshire here! Live in our 4 bed house which cost just over £200,000 in a quiet, safe village with a fantastic school. Less than a 15min drive to all major amenities and less than 30mins into the city or to the beach, couldn’t get this quality of life for the price much other places

Sounds like you've had some great holiday experiences in Scotland! It completely depends on what you want - if you're looking for a city, Glasgow and Edinburgh are great. But if you're after something a bit more remote, then you should definitely check out Argyll & Bute - beautiful views, loads of great coastline and heaps of outdoor activities. Or if you're after something totally wild, the Shetland Islands are pretty spectacular!

Near Inverness, has a railway station, on the beach, good supermarkets, not far to the Struie, quite close to Brora and Helmsdale, on the side of Scotland which doesn't get all the rain, childhood memories.

A lot of those reasons are important because they're the opposite to where I currently live. I love Argyll we're 60 miles from a railway station. And it rains all the time. And getting shopping is a pain.

Oh, I want to move to Alness now!

To be fair the trains are a bit rubbish and they get cancelled a fair amount but all the rest I'll give you.

It's a great little town and a nice place to live. Very friendly and surprisingly diverse for such a small town in the Highlands.

But it's close to Inverness, which has plenty of trains.
When our children come and visit us here, the nearest they can get by train is Glasgow.

If we lived in Alness we could go and get them from Inverness.

Which also has an airport.
