Would DH be unreasonable to wear a short suit to a wedding?

We have a few weddings coming up this July and August. Given the very hot weather last year and that DH runs warm, he’s considering wearing a short suit if the weather is hot. We’re young, and the weddings we’ve been invited to are relaxed and casual, rather than a traditional occasion. We’re not part of the wedding party, and as DH is tall he tends to be at the back of photos. Here are some examples for styles he’s looking at. I know some of these are styled casually, but DH will be in a shirt and smart shoes. I know it’s bit left field but would be interested to see what the view is as DH is considered about sweltering in a traditional suit but also doesn’t want to go totally rogue.

Get a linen suit, short suits for anything but a casual/relaxed beach wedding is not appropriate imo.

Notimeforaname · 13/05/2023 17:44

No.

SophieJo · 13/05/2023 17:44

Only for beach weddings.

JMSA · 13/05/2023 17:45

God no!

BCBird · 13/05/2023 17:45

Not appropriate in my opinion

dinmin · 13/05/2023 17:45

I wouldn’t have minded if people had turned up to our wedding like this! Still smarter than a lot of dresses women turn up in that I’d wear to go to the shops…

Dilemma19 · 13/05/2023 17:45

No no, he will look ridiculous sorry.

oh, should have said, maybe not for any sort of religious ceremony…

BIWI · 13/05/2023 17:46

No. And definitely would look ridiculous with smart shoes!

InBeautifulKindWays · 13/05/2023 17:47

We went to a wedding last summer snd there were a few men wearing them. Not a beach wedding. I quite like them on men that are in shape.

swanling · 13/05/2023 17:47

How young is young?

toastofthetown · 13/05/2023 17:47

I should have said, no church weddings. All are civil or humanist ceremonies.

Does he look like george clooney? If yes then got for it

Houseofpainjumparound · 13/05/2023 17:47

Wouldn't bother me..... if my husband suggested it.
No cause he would look ridiculous but my brother who is tall and slim could pull this off but I would suggest suede loafer shoes and no socks

Ponderingwindow · 13/05/2023 17:47

Unless it is a beach wedding, it will draw negative attention.

It’s a shame men don’t have more socially acceptable clothing options in warm weather. Not really fair that they can’t wear shorts or a skirt and a light top in these scenarios.

I would look for a light linen suit if he doesn’t want to push social boundaries.

DRS1970 · 13/05/2023 17:49

Still laughing.... No!

WateryDoom · 13/05/2023 17:49

I might be very stuffy but it just looks attention seeking to me.

It's not appropriate for a wedding, so it just looks a bit like he wants people to notice him. I appreciate that you say he gets 'hot' - but he will stand out, and that's not really what most people want from their guests.

PinkiOcelot · 13/05/2023 17:49

Lol. No.

SwayingInTime · 13/05/2023 17:50

If he’s tall and slim and the day is very warm people will just wish they thought of it! Getting the shoes right is the tricky thing but if you find the right loafer or something, great. An affordable linen suit would be hard to find for my beanpole DH I think

Twiceover · 13/05/2023 17:51

God, why not? I think they're nice and wouldn't look out of place at a fairly laid back wedding.

maggiemuff · 13/05/2023 17:51

No definitely not

Dotcheck · 13/05/2023 17:52

Absolutely yes if it suits him ( no pun intended).
It’s so unfair men have fewer choices than women for formal wear. I reckon he should lead the revolution.

What does a humanist wedding generally consist of?

VariationsonaTheme · 13/05/2023 17:59

No. They even look ridiculous on boys, never mind grown men.

Schoolchoicesucks · 13/05/2023 18:01

No. Linen trousers and a short sleeved shirt if it's baking hot.

That would be cooler than a shirt, jacket and shorts anyway.
