Would DH be unreasonable to wear a short suit to a wedding?

We have a few weddings coming up this July and August. Given the very hot weather last year and that DH runs warm, he’s considering wearing a short suit if the weather is hot. We’re young, and the weddings we’ve been invited to are relaxed and casual, rather than a traditional occasion. We’re not part of the wedding party, and as DH is tall he tends to be at the back of photos. Here are some examples for styles he’s looking at. I know some of these are styled casually, but DH will be in a shirt and smart shoes. I know it’s bit left field but would be interested to see what the view is as DH is considered about sweltering in a traditional suit but also doesn’t want to go totally rogue.

The looks is so unusual that it might actually take attention away from the bride.

BTMadmummy · 13/05/2023 18:43

In my opinion it's the jacket & shirt that would make you warm and around waistband of trousers, so shorts won't make much of a difference to that

Do people still actually think like this?

LaCerbiatta · 13/05/2023 18:43

It's not any cooler than linen trousers and looks a bit like those men who take their tops off when It's 23C....

floradora · 13/05/2023 18:43

"It ain't half hot, mum"

😂

The bride would have to look spectacularly shit for a guest in shorts to take attention from her.

GoodChat · 13/05/2023 18:47

He can wear nice smart shorts with a short sleeved shirt. The jacket looks crap.

goingtotown · 13/05/2023 18:47

floradora. 😂😂

Soothingaftersun · 13/05/2023 18:48

Sorry but I think people will laugh.

I agree with linen trousers and short sleeved shirt.

Just William.

Yeah, sorry OP. All I picture is this...

Deadringer · 13/05/2023 18:51

For me its the combination of shorts with a long sleeved jacket, they just look odd together imo, and no cooler than a light shirt and trousers. But different strokes and all that.

FabFitFifties · 13/05/2023 18:52

Very "look at me I'm gorgeous" which I find very cringe in a man. It would require spectacular legs to not get the micky took all day. Will he not look really silly if the weather changes? His decision at the end of the day though.

Twerpsichore · 13/05/2023 18:53

If I saw a man wearing that, I’d assume he was a postman.

rookiemere · 13/05/2023 18:54

I actually thought it looked quite smart, but it seems I'm out of kilter with popular opinion.

MrsDoylesDoily · 13/05/2023 18:54

He'll need to be fairly tall with decent legs to avoid being mistaken for Jimmy Krankie.

blimey, your postman must be a dapper gent....

Chickenkeev · 13/05/2023 18:56

Lads, this is coming across as super b*tchy. Men have been policing our clothes for long enough, lets not stoop to their level. It's different to be sure but it's not offensive so live and let live like!

Does he look like george clooney? If yes then got for it

This! Or just generally early 20s, slim, fit & very good looking! Anything else would be a hard no from me!

PhantomErik · 13/05/2023 18:56

I think it looks absolutely fine for a summer wedding!

SunnySaturdayMorning · 13/05/2023 18:56

Not appropriate.

artimesiasfootsteps · 13/05/2023 18:56

I come originally from a hot antipodes country and even there at a casual beach wedding it wouldn't be acceptable. I also work in luxury fashion and again, just no.

Can we laugh at women’s legs if they’re less than spectacular? 🤔

The weddings I go to are full of nice people.

mydoghasanattitude · 13/05/2023 18:58

They look ridiculous, imo, but I do feel for men 'needing' to wear a suit in hot weather. The answer to me would be to only wear the suit for the actual ceremony, then remove the jacket, but that's probably a faux pas by the standards of some.

slipsand · 13/05/2023 18:58

I think these 'suits' only look smart with the jacket - and if it's sweltering, that will be off and he'll just be wearing shorts.
If you're in the UK there's no guarantee it will even be warm! And if it is a scorcher the b&g will probably ok smart shorts anyway.

That said, I wouldn't come to mumsnet for this kind of advice - especially if you're young. Speak to the person who invited you or sound it out with similar friends.

Why exactly? A woman can wear a dress in any weather.
