Would DH be unreasonable to wear a short suit to a wedding?

We have a few weddings coming up this July and August. Given the very hot weather last year and that DH runs warm, he’s considering wearing a short suit if the weather is hot. We’re young, and the weddings we’ve been invited to are relaxed and casual, rather than a traditional occasion. We’re not part of the wedding party, and as DH is tall he tends to be at the back of photos. Here are some examples for styles he’s looking at. I know some of these are styled casually, but DH will be in a shirt and smart shoes. I know it’s bit left field but would be interested to see what the view is as DH is considered about sweltering in a traditional suit but also doesn’t want to go totally rogue.

Yeah, sorry OP. All I picture is this...

😂

No. Linen trousers and a short sleeved shirt if it's baking hot.

That would be cooler than a shirt, jacket and shorts anyway.

Never a short sleeved shirt. I think that outfit is fine in hot weather at a laid back wedding.

Deadringer · 13/05/2023 19:00

This is nice and summery

No never

McP13 · 13/05/2023 19:01

Love it!! If it’s a casual wedding then most deffo go for it people will probably look at him and wished they had done the same.

SummaLuvin · 13/05/2023 19:02

Have to say, it's pretty gross and disappointing that there have been SO many comments on it only being suitable if the man is slim/muscular. Can you imagine the backlash had similar comments been made that a woman should only wear a certain style of dress if she was below a size 8...

LittleBearPad · 13/05/2023 19:06

Will he be wearing knee high socks?

DGay · 13/05/2023 19:06

Definitely not. Too casual.

FASDE1517 · 13/05/2023 19:06

I really like those. Would look great with boat shoes. Can't see why that wouldn't be appropriate for a chilled, relaxed summer wedding. And agree with above, much more formal than the dresses some women wear that I'd only wear to the beach!

Sisisimone · 13/05/2023 19:06

🤣 he would get the absolute piss ripped out of him

BSB30 · 13/05/2023 19:07

Maybe I'm not normal but this thread has me chuckling 😂🤣.

Doggymummar · 13/05/2023 19:08

Omg they look ridiculous

Greengold123 · 13/05/2023 19:08

I'd much rather people were comfortable than sweltering in a suit to look the part, as long as it something that shows he's made the effort to be on message

Flowerblooms · 13/05/2023 18:14

No idea why but men in that kind of outfit makes me think of the blokes from Towie (I don’t even watch it, just from the adverts I have seen)😂🤷🏼‍♀️

Agree. Nope.

Linen, OP.

Chickenkeev · 13/05/2023 19:12

This thread is really eye opening. The outfit is different from the norm but it's smart (not tracksuit bottoms and a string vest). It's just a bit different. If people were slagging off a woman like this there would be uproar (and rightly so) No idea why it's 'cool' to trash a man like this?

I bet a lot of the women on here are overweight/not attractive. I guess it’s ok to just call them fatties and tell them they should wear nothing but a black, loose, sack like dress and don’t draw attention to their ugly asses. 😅

sendbackaletterfromamerica · 13/05/2023 19:14

I'm going to against the grain and say yes! I think a young guy would look great in that on a sunny day. And way more comfortable!

Camillasfagwrinkles · 13/05/2023 19:14

No, that's not appropriate for a wedding.

Why exactly? Legs?

Some people just like to be outlandish with their opinion and act like their opinion holds any value. The reality is a lot of these comments are not generally in the circle of friends wedding at cool casual venue, and more like are attending as an aunt or neighbour so OP should take them with a pinch of salt.
Their advice for op would probably be some awful a line dress with a bolero or cardigan.

And then some are just downright nasty ‘people will laugh for years’.

Most normal human beings will not laugh at another adult for their personal style. Only a total dickhead would in fact, and it says more about the person making the comment than anyone else.

Sissynova · 13/05/2023 19:19

I also don’t know why people are acting like only toddler boys wear shorts. They must have quite limited circles with men who obsess over what is typical masculine dress.

Plenty of city boys wear formal shorts in the summer to offices.

viques · 13/05/2023 19:20

Is it worth buying it as a suit? Would he ever wear it again as a suit? It will be an expensive way to but a pair of shorts. Will there even be a hot summer? I would get him to buy some linen trousers that he can wear with a plain shirt and loafers or deck shoes. He will be able to wear them again if the sun ever shines.

UndertheCedartree · 13/05/2023 19:20

I think a lot of people would consider it inappropriate but personally it wouldn't bother me. I also would just wear what I wanted and wouldn't worry too much about what anyone else would think (apart from the bride and groom).

pilates · 13/05/2023 19:22

Definitely not

alpinia · 13/05/2023 19:26

I've been to a fair few summer and overseas weddings over the last 5 years and at every single one there has been at least one man, and usually quite a few wearing this type of suit. Not just modern young things in their 20s either. I quite like them, on a very hot day they make sense.

Probably best for a non- religious, modern or outdoorsy wedding though.
