To think that the 'trans issue' isn't a big deal

It just blows my mind how many people on here are so hung up over trans women. They're such a small percentage of the population. I have never seen an obviously trans woman in a women's toilet (not that it would particularly bother me if I did), in fact I very rarely see trans women out and about ever.
I'd be happy to listen to explanations but I really don't understand the issue. Surely there are thousands of more pressing issues regarding women's rights and safety currently than the 0.27% of the population (a USA statistic but I assume it's accurate enough) that are trans women. And even then it would be a minuscule proportion of those that are ill-intentioned towards women. It just seems like a big fuss about something so obscure when there are huge issues that deserve more attention.

Real women mensturate.

Leave our space.

Nope

SunsetsInVenice · 05/05/2023 22:43

Kirstie Alsopp is that you?

GladAllOver · 30/05/2023 22:24

Yes, REALLY.

Florenz · 30/05/2023 22:29

If you accept Trans Women as women, then there are no women anymore. It's one of the most important issues in human history. And that's not exaggeration.

Is it the actual trans women who experience gender dysphoria and undergo hormones and surgery that bother you? Or is it the pretenders that lie?
Cisgender women have it tough but the mortality rate of trans women is incredibly high, and 5 times the rate of trans men for perspective.

where did you get that statistic from? My understanding is it was based on a survey of trans prostitutes in brazil so not exactly representative of your average trans woman in the uk.

To some extent you're right as in there are probably other things in the uk that have a more direct, wider, and more immediate effect but that doesn't mean it's not worth discussing. For the woman losing sponsorship on the event she's trained for since she was seven due to being pushed off the podium by a man or the woman having to shower or share a cell with a male with penis in prison it's pretty significant.

Also the reverse is true - if the number of trans women in the UK is so so so tiny why are so many changes being made that have the potential to affect so many more people? e.g. if less than 0.2% of the population are trans women what is the justification for changing medical terminology so that it confuses the 10-20% of the population who have english as an additional language/learning disabilities or lower levels of understanding so don't understand what is meant by a 'uterus haver' 'person who bleeds' 'birthing person' 'chest feeder' etc. Why are we making changing rooms less safe for 50% of the population to make it easier for 0.02%? etc. etc.

Well, I care because:

  1. Children are being irreversibly medically harmed;
  2. Children are being deeply emotionally traumatised;
  3. So are adults;
  4. Truth is being abandoned and we are all supposed to go along with the lie;
  5. A mental health problem is being treated with medication and surgery;
  6. Women’s rights are being trampled over by men;
  7. Women’s safety is being counted less important than men’s wishes;
  8. Women are, always, the ones who lose out, whether in sport, at work, in domestic abuse, even in women’s prisons;
  9. Autogynophilia is a kink not a gender identity and society has no obligation to play into these mens fetishes;
  10. It is actual nonsense. However hard you try, a male body can’t become female, nor vice versa. Sex is not determined by outward appearances nor inner feelings. It is a biological reality. Deal with it.
  11. It reinforces gender stereotypes that I thought we’d thrown out 50 years ago.

Completely agree with @bridgetreilly

You can’t argue with any of that.

Yes they are an incredibly small percentage of the population but are taking away from women, and the rights we have lived and died for to gain.

Just because you are ignorant of what women are losing out to accommodate men wanting to wear lipstick and dresses and you don’t understand what we’re up against doesn’t mean it isn’t a big deal.

accommodate men wanting to wear lipstick and dresses

being a trans woman has nothing to do with “wanting to wear lipstick and dresses”. This is so ignorant, it makes me want to weep.

All of this is nothing but ignorance and transphobia. Instead of forming strong opinions about an experience you know nothing about, you would be much better listening and opening your mind to those who are different to you. I know that you don’t want to hear/ won’t absorb this, but the world would be a much better place if you did.

The sex-based rights of women and girls matter big time.

Yes to all of this!

GladAllOver · 31/05/2023 12:40

Well I'm sorry if it makes you weep, Tandora, but there is no room for a penis in a women's space.
It's just as simple as that.

Why do so many of them do so then?

The truly terrifying thing about this thread and others is the extent to which actual facts about trans people, and Gender Recognition Certificates whether as now or under the proposed Scottish changes have been subsumed by my and untruth.

What specifically do you mean?

I know EVERYTHING about being a woman - I have 65 years of experience of it.

Listening to what exactly? All I ever hear from TRA is TWAW. Based on what scientific evidence exactly please?

Tell me - what procedure turns a man into a woman?

How are the chromosomes changed from XY to XX?

How are the advantages of male puberty reversed so the person is then as they would have been if born female?

Why do they majority of TW opt to keep their fully functioning penis?

I am ready to hear and absorb your answers to the above questions #Tandora

BMW6 · 31/05/2023 15:27

Oh and Tandora the world would definitely be a much better place if MEN were prevented from ruling the world and using violence against women and children - but we can start by stopping them from invading our single sex spaces, safe places and sports.

There are 11, very specific points made here, very cogently by @bridgetreilly

Could you, perhaps, take each one separately and tell us why they are wrong? Other than. just railing in a rather hysterical way about them being transphobic? Hint: they aren't.
