To think that the 'trans issue' isn't a big deal

It just blows my mind how many people on here are so hung up over trans women. They're such a small percentage of the population. I have never seen an obviously trans woman in a women's toilet (not that it would particularly bother me if I did), in fact I very rarely see trans women out and about ever.
I'd be happy to listen to explanations but I really don't understand the issue. Surely there are thousands of more pressing issues regarding women's rights and safety currently than the 0.27% of the population (a USA statistic but I assume it's accurate enough) that are trans women. And even then it would be a minuscule proportion of those that are ill-intentioned towards women. It just seems like a big fuss about something so obscure when there are huge issues that deserve more attention.

I agree with the risks in principle but in day to day life they're not even on the radar. I'm probs more statistically likely to encounter trouble from a 'cis' woman than a transwoman.

JonahAndTheSnail · 01/06/2023 00:16

For a large proportion of young people, it's a fad based on outdated gender stereotypes which should have died out decades ago. It's wrong to assume it's a minority of the population these days. I work in a subculture hobby industry involving young people and trans females far outweigh biological females by a long shot.

Is it bad or harmful for young biological men to want to wear skirts or make up or change their name to something more feminine? Or on the flip side for women to want to present in a more masculine way. No. In fact I can recall plenty of male friends wearing skirts and eye liner on a night out back in the 00's However, a cultural shift towards teenagers being allowed to take hormones which can have life changing consequences because they 'feel' a certain way, may have serious consequences for them down the line, and I don't see how considering this is transphobic.

Themaghag · 01/06/2023 09:17

There is no such thing as a 'cis' woman.

BMW6 · 01/06/2023 09:30

Come on Tandora we're waiting for your valuable insights as to how exactly people can change their sex. How can we "open our minds" without reading your facts?

TheKeatingFive · 01/06/2023 09:54

You won't get any clarification from @Tandora. You never do.

BMW6 · 01/06/2023 18:13

Lol typical. Pontificate about our closed minds and us not listening then won't tell us what we are supposed to hear 🙄

Valeriekat · 01/06/2023 19:54

Cis woman is NOT a Scientific Term!

WifeMotherWorker · 02/06/2023 07:35

There is no such thing as a cis woman or a trans woman, there are women (XX) and men (XY), a human cannot change their biological gender, it is impossible.
An individual has the right to present how they want and love who they want (within the law). However men do not have the right to invade women’s spaces (toilets, changing rooms, refuges, jails, clubs) nor do they have the right to compete in women’s sports.
This is a men’s rights movement. Women (and men) need to stand united against this ideology because a persons thoughts do not trump reality, it’s utterly bonkers. If this went to a referendum on what rights should be implemented the overwhelming majority would support biology and women’s rights. There is a tiny, loud and aggressive minority that have been influential and people have been scared into submission but the tide is massively changing. I’m pleased to see on posts all over social media and the MSM that there is very little support for this ideology! Look at how much money Bud Light and Target have lost over the last few weeks. That tells you everything you need to know about what the majority of the public think about this in Europe and the US.
Let’s not forget that this is a huge money making opportunity for big pharmaceuticals, where safeguarding comes secondary to money and irreversible damage is being done with puberty blockers and hormones to vulnerable children. There is nothing wrong with being gay or presenting as masculine or feminine, just don’t opt for elective surgeries and take hormones that could render you sterile. There are so many de-transitioned people out there and they have found their voice and have a big following. Leave the kids alone!!!

PS: still not seen a single counter argument on this thread or anywhere else. All I see from the opposition is “bigots” and “transphobes”… name calling isn’t really a balanced response!!

MavisMcMinty · 02/06/2023 12:53

There are no counter-arguments because for years they haven’t had to argue anything, just stated “their truth” and refused to debate, trying and sometimes succeeding to punish anyone daring to disagree. Twitter was so oppressive it was easier to avoid the subject altogether, although since I’ve been banned it does seem to have become more tolerant of GC views.

WifeMotherWorker · 02/06/2023 23:23

MavisMcMinty, I managed less than a week on Twitter a few years ago because it was an echo chamber of ideological views and left wing to the extreme, the whole site was ultra oppressive!! Since Elon Musk has taken over I reignited my account and I’m a regular user. He has been true to his word and overhauled the whole site, implemented Community Note to prohibit fake news and altered algorithms that prohibited free speech. He did an interview 2 days ago with The Babylon Bee which is fascinating.
I would recommend anyone interested in women’s rights to join Twitter as you will find you are among many friends.

MavisMcMinty · 03/06/2023 06:24

Musk has broken Twitter - I was banned for calling myself Musky Mavis McMinty and retweeting an article about him. I missed it horribly, I lived on there for 4 years, with thousands of followers, but seeing what the paid-for blue ticks have done to to the place, I’m completely over it now.

But yes, I’ve noticed a big change in Twitter attitude re the trans debate.

accommodate men wanting to wear lipstick and dresses

being a trans woman has nothing to do with “wanting to wear lipstick and dresses”. This is so ignorant, it makes me want to weep.

Then what is it to do with?

Because I've been a woman for nearly 70 years and I have no idea what that feels like compared to what being a man feels like.

It's just what I am

Nanny0gg · 03/06/2023 10:22

However men do not have the right to invade women’s spaces (toilets, changing rooms, refuges, jails, clubs)

Please could you have a word with the WI then as they've apparently just appointed a transwoman to their National Membership committee (no, the membership as a whole as never been asked if they agree with TW being members)

loislovesstewie · 03/06/2023 10:25

I agree with @Nanny0gg . I don't rely on feelings but on facts. Factually I am female. And I am fed up with men putting on a dress and telling me what I can or can't do. At the age of 67 I have reached a point where I am sick and tired of it, I've had a lifetime of men pontificating on issues that they know nothing about and displaying ignorance that has to be seen to be believed. I don't care if others are happy sharing with men, I'm not.
