Friend told daughter to 'fuck off and die'

My daughter and her friend are both 10, unbeknownst to me yesterday whilst I was in the shower, they pranked called a few of my friends. I found out because one of my friends text me to tell me. I said no more and that was that.

This morning daughter says to me, 'when we prank called your friend, 'Pete' he told us to 'fuck off and die' three times.'

I wasn't really sure how to handle the situation as they obviously shouldn't have been prank calling but also I think it's pretty obvious they are children.

So I text Pete and the messages went like this -

Me - Hey did you say to Amelia to go fuck herself and die yesterday, she said her and her friend prank called you yesterday, I didn’t know. Did you not realise it was her I presume? Xx

Pete - I didn't until she said her name!!! My intuition was right!!!

I don't really know what he means but I feel really uncomfortable about this.

Am I being dramatic? Should I leave it at that? Is it their own fault for prank calling?

It’s not clear if he knew it was a child before he said it?

WheelsUp · 16/04/2023 17:22

Is your dd bothered by the comment ?

WheelsUp · 16/04/2023 17:25

What did the girls say in the call?
Fuck Off is not an unexpected reply to a prank call imo.

redskylight · 16/04/2023 17:25

What was the content of the prank call? Whilst I'd say it's not really appropriate to say this to a child regardless of the circumstances, if the call was unpleasant and he wasn't sure who it was from I guess it's not entirely unreasonable.

And die?

I think two 10 year old girls would be quite obvious over the phone.

Her friend apparently put on an English accent and said, 'would you like a cat for £1.50'

No she's not overly bothered

What did they say on the call? I mean it's not a great thing to say to a child but he didn't know who it was. Having someone prank call you and depending on what they said I can totally see why he would get frustrated and say something similar.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/04/2023 17:29

Why were they prank calling people? Can’t say I feel that much sympathy for your DD in the circumstances 🤷‍♀️

Sux2buthen · 16/04/2023 17:29

I'd focus on consequences for your kid and get her to apologise.
Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

Ihatepainting · 16/04/2023 17:30

I don’t understand these answers, it’s easy to tell a child by their voice and a stupid prank by the sound of it. That’s a nasty aggressive answer. That’s a sice of him I would be very worried about.

are you thinking he suspected it was her? As that’s what it reads like to me,

They're 10 😂 calm down.

I'd be more concerned about disciplining my kid for prank calling my friends than what the recipient of one of the calls said to them. Extraordinary.

Ihatepainting · 16/04/2023 17:32

I can’t get over what I’m reading, telling children to fuck off and die is ok, is it hell. And you know a kids voice when you hear it.

Tandora · 16/04/2023 17:32

This is all very odd. I would text Pete back and asked why he said that to her?

ferntwist · 16/04/2023 17:32

That’s really poor of your friend. He should never have said that

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 16/04/2023 17:32

If someone prank called me the first time I'd just hang up, the second time I'd tell them to stop by the third time I'd be pissed off. That would accelerate based on time of the day and what I was doing.

You say you were in the shower so was it reasonably early in the morning and did they wake him up?

Pahpahpotato · 16/04/2023 17:33

His reaction was awful and too much, if it was clear he was speaking to children. That being said, they’ve probably learned not to be so annoying or you’ll piss people off. Fuck around and find out.

museumum · 16/04/2023 17:34

Natural consequence I’d say - you prank call people, some will get angry and possibly threatening.

AutumnCrow · 16/04/2023 17:34

How did they know Pete's number? Were they using your mobile phone?

Theresamooselooseabootthishoose · 16/04/2023 17:34

I’d of laughed my head off if my friends dd called me and offered for me to buy a cat for £1.50! 😂 that’s amazing!

Id be disgusted if my friend said that to anyone let alone a child. The fuck off part is fair enough for a prank call, the latter not so IMO.

Kanaloa · 16/04/2023 17:34

So he was aware it was your daughter? Or not? If he was aware that’s an odd response. I would think most adults would be more likely to say something like ‘I will be telling your mum about this.’

I think in future she maybe needs closer supervision. It’s not appropriate (and can even be unsafe for the child or frightening to some people) to be ‘prank calling’ and maybe she should not have friends over unsupervised if they get up to these type of things.

Crocodilekneecaps · 16/04/2023 17:35

How many times did they prank him ?

daisy1765 · 16/04/2023 17:35

your friend was wrong but your daughter shouldn't be prank calling people.

Sux2buthen · 16/04/2023 17:35

I am calm, my kids aren't being rank and calling people for shits and giggles, followed by whining that they got told where to go.
Pete sounds like he's got your kid figured out, good on ya Pete

Mustardandchickensandwiches · 16/04/2023 17:36

I kind of get where your coming from op.

He thought it was her because he stated 'my intuition was right' and yet still decided to tell her to fuck off and die. That's no friend. Or person with a normal mental state.

Surely you just hang up?

Seeline · 16/04/2023 17:36

I assume they were using your mobile to know his number?
If so did he think it was you mucking about?
You should also check your call logs to see who else they rang and how many times.
I would be furious with my DCs if they did this on my phone. If it was her phone, I suggest it's removed until she is old enough to use it properly.
