Friend told daughter to 'fuck off and die'

My daughter and her friend are both 10, unbeknownst to me yesterday whilst I was in the shower, they pranked called a few of my friends. I found out because one of my friends text me to tell me. I said no more and that was that.

This morning daughter says to me, 'when we prank called your friend, 'Pete' he told us to 'fuck off and die' three times.'

I wasn't really sure how to handle the situation as they obviously shouldn't have been prank calling but also I think it's pretty obvious they are children.

So I text Pete and the messages went like this -

Me - Hey did you say to Amelia to go fuck herself and die yesterday, she said her and her friend prank called you yesterday, I didn’t know. Did you not realise it was her I presume? Xx

Pete - I didn't until she said her name!!! My intuition was right!!!

I don't really know what he means but I feel really uncomfortable about this.

Am I being dramatic? Should I leave it at that? Is it their own fault for prank calling?

So OP did you get your daughter to apologise to everyone she pranked then? Because that would be something responsible parents do.

GlassBunion · 16/04/2023 18:07

I'd be more concerned about why your child thinks it's acceptable to make prank phone calls tbh.

Sisisimone · 16/04/2023 18:07

leepingup · 16/04/2023 18:02

It was go fuck yourself and die

He sounds unhinged. He must have known it was your child if it was from your phone, right? What a nasty bastard. Honestly can't imagine anyone I know reacting like this

saraclara · 16/04/2023 18:07

they pranked called a few of my friends. I found out because one of my friends text me to tell me. I said no more and that was that

You said no more? You didn't tell them off even mildly?

If this OP is for real, I'm absolutely on team Pete. But it's pretty hard to believe that a) you didn't say a word to them about the calls, and b) instead of calling to apologise to Pete, you called and asked him to explain himself.

LightDrizzle · 16/04/2023 18:07

So you are suggesting that because my child prank called him she should die? Ew. Please seek help.

🙄

Crocodilekneecaps · 16/04/2023 18:08

So has she apologised?

OnaBegonia · 16/04/2023 18:08

@leepingup
You're completely overreacting, it's a common phrase he didn't mean it literally, maybe concentrate on the fact your DD is a brat.

SandLResources · 16/04/2023 18:08

I thought prank calls were HILARIOUS when I was a kid. Usually made from a phone box and to directory enquiries. I must have known I was in the wrong though because if someone had said this to me there's no way I'd go home and tell "Mummy" because that was back in the day I would probably have received a clip around the ear.

ShimmeringShirts · 16/04/2023 18:08

Stupid games, stupid prizes and all that.

What deal has Pete broken?

Did he make a deal to be the perfectly behaved victim if pranked?

I meant a deal breaker in a friendship. Anyone who says go fuck yourself and die, I just could not be friends with. It's gross.

GoodChat · 16/04/2023 18:08

Londongal123 · 16/04/2023 18:04

Suicide should never be joked about, ever. I can understand fuck off but the "and die" part was out of line and I personally would no longer be friends with that person. Kids are dumb and make dumb choices but we were all kids once and we all probably prank called people at some point in our lives. A prank call is not worth dying for. If all they said was fuck off I'd be embarrassed and have my kid apologise but the "and die" part would be a deal breaker for me.

Who joked about suicide?

ZeroPlastic · 16/04/2023 18:09

Well, you’re responsible for your daughter. You’re not responsible for Pete. So I’d focus on teaching her why she shouldn’t make prank calls.

That said, this would change my perception of Pete permanently and I would let the friendship drop. It’s an appalling way to rely to a prank call from a child and the fact that it even occurred to him to say it would horrify me. But that’s who he is.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/04/2023 18:03

Anyone who wastes my time with prank calls or scam calls will get told to fuck off.

If this is real then you seem awfully calm about your daughter's massive disrespect of you by using your identity to call your friends and dick them around.

I suspect not ..

Who joked about suicide?

When people hear go fuck yourself and die it means they want the other person to die. So I should have said suicide or murder should never be joked about.

Nowvoyager99 · 16/04/2023 18:11

Has your DD always been “spirited”?

Looks like she got her come uppance from Pete and hopefully she won’t do anything so poorly judged again.

AprilFool23 · 16/04/2023 18:11

Pete sounds like a real gent 🙄

What a totally OTT nasty response to 10 yr old kids messing around.

I wouldn't be pursuing the friendship further. The little ways we find out what lol are like are many & varied.

BringtheJury · 16/04/2023 18:11

All sounds a bit odd, I assume your number came up on Pete's phone? So he must have thought it was either you or someone in your household?

Having said that, he's entitled to say what he likes to a prank caller .

mainsfed · 16/04/2023 18:11

leepingup · 16/04/2023 18:02

It was go fuck yourself and die

So he said

Fuck yourself and die
Fuck yourself and die
Fuck yourself and die

?

Who joked about suicide?

No-one.

Some very strange reactions on this thread.

GoodChat · 16/04/2023 18:12

@Londongal123 nope - still not seeing the 'joke' about suicide, or murder.

Technonan · 16/04/2023 18:12

It's my standard response to prank calls. I don't stop and think, 'Oh dear me, this is a child.' I just think, 'Another wanker,' and tell them to fuck off and die.

AprilFool23 · 16/04/2023 18:12

he's entitled to say what he likes to a prank caller.

If they were adults maybe.

Not kids who aren't even being offensive in what they're saying, just silly and innocent.

He didn't know it was a 10 year old and we don't know how many times they called

Anyone who doesnt discipline their children or make them apologise for prank calling and instead says nothing about it after multiple friends have been bothered by it probably isnt a friend Pete is going to be bothered about losing

But I mean falling out with anyone just because they swear or use coarse language when someone is bothering them is a bit dramatic

Are you always this judgemental of your friends?

pookiedoodlepuppy · 16/04/2023 18:10

I suspect not ..

I agree with this also
