This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

I’m Scottish, no one I know gives a flying fuck about the royals in general. Everyone I know is planning on actively avoiding the ceremony coverage, just like they did with the diamond jubilee and the queen’s funeral.

missmollygreen · 10/04/2023 16:15

Think what you like.
I bet you are going to still accept the free bank holiday though!

TheaBrandt · 10/04/2023 16:15

God I agree. Couldn’t give two hoots. Time to draw a line under the whole thing it’s getting embarrassing.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 10/04/2023 16:15

Most people are indifferent to it. However, the royals have a brilliant PR machine and they’re very good at portraying their forelock tugging subjects as being in a majority 🤷‍♀️.

Mangogogogo · 10/04/2023 16:15

I meannn you care enough to post about it.

its fine to say you dislike the idea and are against the monarchy but don’t pretend you don’t care

2chocolateoranges · 10/04/2023 16:15

I’m Scottish and looking forward to my holiday Monday off, I’ll probably watch some of the Coronation too, it’s a huge part of history in the making.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 10/04/2023 16:16

I don’t care either.

However I work with peeps with LD and one of them is really excited about it so I’m going to make a throne and some cucumber sandwiches and scones and try to make the best of it.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 10/04/2023 16:16

@missmollygreen accept it in what way?! My office is closed - there’s fuck all I can do about that.

MissLucyLiu · 10/04/2023 16:16

I am actually getting out of London that weekend to escape this madness

Wakeywake · 10/04/2023 16:17

I care! I've got plans for that bank holiday. Of course, they don't include watching the coronation, but still...

Why wouldn't you. Do you expect me to go sit in a closed building all day?

I couldn't care less about the King's Coronation but I'll happily accept any extra bank holidays that come my way.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/04/2023 16:17

I'm not interested. But that's fine. It doesn't make those who are interested fools. Do you often take your disinterest in stuff to be a mark of superiority?

TheChosenTwo · 10/04/2023 16:18

I care OP. I care that it’s a waste of money for something I have no interest in and that money could be put to much better use. He’s already the king, move on! Didn’t watch the jubilee, didn’t watch the funeral, won’t be watching this.
My office will be closed on the Monday, we are planning a trip to the seaside.

Can’t exactly not accept it can we.

People aren’t just going to go round saying I refuse to accept this is a bank holiday and therefore the bank must open for me 😑

GolfForBrains · 10/04/2023 16:18

Genuine question - what's happening in France right now that has made you think about the Coronation? The Revolution was a while ago. Their pension reforms aren't really relevant to whether we have a monarchy in the UK.

SingingSands · 10/04/2023 16:19

I don't care. I won't be watching it on telly, or buying special edition newspapers. I'll just carry on with my life and let others carry on enjoying it if they want to.

I'm more than happy with a free bank holiday though, and whatever themed cakes/party food that the supermarkets produce. Corgi shaped crumpets?

Hopefully the weather will be good as I'm building a new garden deck that weekend.

Lcb123 · 10/04/2023 16:19

I have zero interest. Will be going camping that weekend and avoiding TVs!

Is it really a huge part of history in the making, though?

Charles will surely be little more than a mere footnote in history, won't it? He won't be monarch for long, and it's unlikely that there will be anything particularly dramatic about his reign. Unless we decide to have a revolution or something.

pilates · 10/04/2023 16:20

That’s your choice.

No one is forced to watch it on tv or take an active part in the celebration.

Scottish people didn't give a flying fuck about the queen's funeral? The jubilee ok but the funeral seems a bit harsh! No one had to watch it but to not give a flying fuck, even if you didn't care for her being a queen, she was still an old lady with a family.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 10/04/2023 16:21

I’m probably working but would quite like to watch it & have some sort of celebration

No, but as taxpayers, we are all forced to pay for it!

SunnySaturdayMorning · 10/04/2023 16:21

If you really didn’t care you wouldn’t feel the need to tell everyone 🤷‍♀️

LindorDoubleChoc · 10/04/2023 16:22

I'm not fussed either but each to their own. I sense there's not the same general excitement that there was in 1952 (not that I was alive then!) but my Mum and Grandma remembered that as a landmark day. Not least because so many people got televisions for the first time and those that had them invited all the neighbours in to watch. It was a lovely national party, and I'm not getting that feeling in 2023.

Perhaps in 1952 we were full of post war optimism and not so cynical about the Monarchy.

LlynTegid · 10/04/2023 16:22

OP you are perfectly free to think as you do and I am sure you are not alone. The affection for the late Queen I think was much more than for the King.

As for the nation of fools, I agree, but not the view on the Coronation, but a decision in 2016.
