This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

'The ONS usually publishes its annual stats on the suicide rate - and hasn't since 2021. Silenced by the govt no doubt.'

The ONS report on 2021 suicide figures was published in September 2022. If you look back over the previous few years, the reporting is pretty much always published in the September of the following year, so the 2022 figures will probably be published at around the same time in 2023. There is no 'silenced by the govt'.

I'm with you OP. Gave up reading the whole thread. No doubt they'll be more idiots on trilling on how they add loads to our economy and coronation will increase this by mythical amounts. How? By flogging memorabilia 'Made in China'? As for television rights . . . In this day of access to anything - be it free or illegal? As for the mistress breaking up jewellery for her adornment plus wearing easily recognisable pieces. They don't even live together! Yet she has a bloody mansion with security plus numerous helicopter trips to and fro! Why didn't the spoilt, over indulged, tampon loving petulant tosser abdicate in favour of his son.

Before people pile on, I'm responding because I have right to.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/05/2023 12:19

@MrsCatE - it's really not OK to refer to your fellow MN members as idiots, no matter how much you disagree with them.

Plus he's a really rubbish King with a wife who looks like she's swallowed a wasp. Can we swap them for Dutch ones that are much more fun ?

#KingsDay2022 in Holland today. King, Queen and daughters dancing in #Maastricht.

In what way is he a “rubbish” king? I think he’s got off to a pretty good start, he certainly hasn’t messed up at all since September.

What does a good King look like?
What does a rubbish King look like?

All he has to do is go around the country, looking at things, waving and opening things up. Not exactly demanding, is it.

We can’t change our mind about Brexit, can we? We’re stuck with it.

Fair point @LindorDoubleChoc - I shouldn't state people of a different viewpoint to mine are idiots. I suggest we add something to the Self Assessment Tax Returns next January; "Do you opt in to pay for the upkeep of this corrupt, load of (billionaire) free loaders or not? Tick here to agree £xxx. P.s if you are a royal or have any vague connection (looking at you Fergie) tick here to claim back your £xxxxx charity dispensation / exemption / gift aid."

If you do that you'd have to add columns for every penny spent by the government...... I'm sure there's spending on lots of things which most don't agree with.

Indeed. Added to which most income tax is collected via PAYE.

Apparently you can't call Camilla Parker-Bowles what she is these days 😂

A cheat and his mistress on the throne, leeching off the rest of us.

Oh come on. Stop pearl clutching.

They've been together for years now and are clearly happy together. Charles and Diana were married for a relatively brief period before it all went wrong.

I honestly don't know why people feel so strongly about C and D as a couple when they hated each other and were unhappy together.

Everyone deserves the chance to have a happy relationship/marriage. Why would you want Charles to have stayed married to Diana and for them both to have been miserable.

Diana liked her image of being the wronged wife. She was equally unhappy with Charles; it was probably like being married to your boring, fussy old uncle. Do you not remember all the affairs she had and those were the ones that the press reported on the time. I'm sure there will be others that didn't get reported. She didn't give a shit if the men she shagged were married or not either.

@Coxspurplepippin did you have your humour removed at birth and replaced with Alanis Morissette's version of irony?

Aye, because my reply was a really, really serious suggestion. Anyway, resorting to insulting people who don't agree with you is a pretty quick way of losing an argument.

It's OK not to care, lots of people aren't invested in all the royal goings on. But let people who enjoy that sort of thing get on with it without raining on their parade.

I'm not really bothered about the details, I just like pointing out the hypocrisy to sycophantic royalists who like to proclaim the sun shineth from their royal behinds. When in reality they're a bit scummy and selfish.

Blossomtoes · 08/05/2023 17:50

What hypocrisy? The human race is a bit scummy and selfish, why would we expect the monarchy to be any different?

The hypocrisy is in the way people pretend members of the monarchy are wonderful when in reality they are some of the worst among us.

Big Ears can't even fold his own clothes.

Charles is the only Royal I like because he actually cares about green issues. I hope he will have some influence as head of state. So I will be watching because of his green credentials.

Does that mean he'll stop them all from flying around the world being all gracious and condescending with their presence?

Roussette · 11/05/2023 15:40

Oh dear. This won't go down well. And it's Daily Express readers who are notoriously royalist

It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out, but I think the Express’ Diana obsession should be kept in mind with things like this.

Maybe on Camilla's low score but Harry's high one? Hmmm......
