To not care at all about the King’s coronation?

This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

OP you are perfectly free to think as you do and I am sure you are not alone. The affection for the late Queen I think was much more than for the King.

As for the nation of fools, I agree, but not the view on the Coronation, but a decision in 2016.

Ha, yes!!

Howpo · 10/04/2023 16:23

Our local village put up an ad to get volunteers to organise a 'do for the coronation, no one applied.

We are out the country ... thank xxxx!

Vitriolinsanity · 10/04/2023 16:23

No sweat OP, I care enough for both of us.

I've never doffed a cap or tugged my forelock in my life.

Scottish people didn't give a flying fuck about the queen's funeral? The jubilee ok but the funeral seems a bit harsh! No one had to watch it but to not give a flying fuck, even if you didn't care for her being a queen, she was still an old lady with a family.

I said “no one I know”, how have you extrapolated that to every Scottish person? I have a wide circle admittedly but I’m still far from knowing every single person in the country 🙄

userxx · 10/04/2023 16:24

I thought it was on the Monday, didn't realise it was on the Saturday. I'll be out for lunch and a few wines. Not fussed about watching it.

Think what you like.
I bet you are going to still accept the free bank holiday though!

How would you suggest people didn't "accept" the "free" bank holiday?

Many workplaces are shut on bank Holidays so even if people want to go into work theres no work open or available to go into.

astarsheis · 10/04/2023 16:26

Very fond of the Quenn but sorry no respect here for the new lot coming through. Could not care less.
DH wanted us to fix our holiday dates so he would be back to watch it.
Needless to say that is not happening.

Mangogogogo · 10/04/2023 16:15

I meannn you care enough to post about it.

its fine to say you dislike the idea and are against the monarchy but don’t pretend you don’t care

Lol, this

Anonymouseposter · 10/04/2023 16:29

YANBU to have no interest but some people are interested and that’s up to them. You can’t expect everyone to be interested or not interested in the same things as you.

ACynicalDad · 10/04/2023 16:30

It's not unreasonable for you as an individual not to care, it is unreasonable to think nobody should care, we are entitled to, I love state occasions like this.

Oblomov23 · 10/04/2023 16:30

No. Feel the cost is inappropriate.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 10/04/2023 16:31

Erm, good for you?

Youre not obliged to care. Its not the Middle Ages.

Heronwatcher · 10/04/2023 16:32

It is utterly ridiculous in this day and age. Embalming civet oil, golden carriages and coronation spoons have absolutely no place in today’s society, quite apart from the fact that Charles is essentially a normal bloke, absolutely no different from anyone born at the same time, so quite why anyone should be wanting to line streets and cheer for him is beyond me. I might as well cheer for Dave from the chippy.

the80sweregreat · 10/04/2023 16:33

The extra bank holiday isn't ' free ' for many workers though is it ? For Many people it'll be a normal working day. The stores and pubs etc might like the extra revenue it might bring , but the employees will still be told to work for the same money.

Ilikewinter · 10/04/2023 16:34

I couldnt give 2 hoots either. Interestingly Tesco have changed all of their hanging showmaterial for 'celebrating the coronation', queue beer, wine and lots of cakes and treats in their celebrational aisle. Im just looking forward to an extra day off work 😊

CornishGem1975 · 10/04/2023 16:35

Love it. Can't wait. Love a bit of pomp and circumstance.

Yirk · 10/04/2023 16:38

Quite looking forward to watching it.

TorchwoodWho · 10/04/2023 16:38

I didn't think most people did care? Same as with the Jubilee, the only positive is the extra bank holiday. Ridiculous and insensitive waste of money as people go under because even though they're already using working all hours and using food banks, they still can't afford to live, basically.

slowquickstep · 10/04/2023 16:40

My Union flag will be flying proudly here in my few acres of Scotland. We are having a Coronation party, at the last count 53 people had RSVP'd, so it will be some shindig. The coronation partywear has been ordered ,Champagne will flow and i am trying out MD2020 cocktails and the Buckfast trifle will be on the table.

Then why mention the country you live in if it holds no relevance to what you're saying. Just say "everyone I know doesn't care..."

InsertMoniker · 10/04/2023 16:43

does anyone else really not care?

Me. I really don't care.

Heatherbell1978 · 10/04/2023 16:44

I'm in Scotland and very much looking forward to watching it and having a few drinks. We're hosting a party for it. Whenever I read the 'no-one in Scotland gives a damn' comments I think it's strange someone can talk for an entire nation.

Fairislefandango · 10/04/2023 16:47

I'm not fussed either, OP. I'm under no illusion that I'm particularly unusual in that though - I magine quite a lot of people aren't fussed.

How would you suggest people didn't "accept" the "free" bank holiday?

^This. I'm a teacher. My school will be shut. I might well do some work at home that day though. Does that count as me not accepting the Bank Holiday and therefore not being hypocritical as a non-royalist? Hmm

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 10/04/2023 16:48

Read any thread here about the Coronation or even about the Royal Family and you will find you are not alone, OP.

DustyLee123 · 10/04/2023 16:49

I really don’t care for the RF anymore, since the queen passed.
I seem to remember that, many years ago, Charles said that Camilla wouldn’t be queen. And I’m fairly sure at one point it was said that the coronation wouldn’t be a BH.
