To not care at all about the King’s coronation?

This is going to infuriate a lot of people but I think we are a nation of fools.

does anyone else really not care? I’m surprised given what’s happening in France there isn’t more opposition to the coronation.

Couldn’t give a toss.

Would ignore completely were my employers not involved with the bloody thing.

HandbagsnGladrags · 10/04/2023 16:52

Nope really could not care less. Neighbours are having a street party, road closed off and everything. Would rather set myself on fire than go and celebrate.

Will obvs take the extra BH though, who wouldn't want an extra day off work?

the80sweregreat · 10/04/2023 16:53

I'm surprised that Camilla will be known as the Queen. I don't follow Royal protocol, but I was also under the impression that she would be known as the Queen consort. It seems to have changed now. It doesn't bother me, but I'm sure it might do with some other people around!
(Although I'm sure someone will come along and say it was always going to be this!!)

BeetleBailey · 10/04/2023 16:54

I have zero interest in any of the royal family

Anycolouryoulike · 10/04/2023 16:54

I don't think many people really care about Charlie do they? As a republican I can sort of understand peoples affection for the Queen but not for Charles or Camilla.

It's just a day of outdated pomp and ceremony and expense.

yevrah1102 · 10/04/2023 16:55

I couldn't care less about the royal family or coronation. Will not be watching or celebrating at all

NeonBoomerang · 10/04/2023 16:56

I couldn't give a flying fuck.

Justalittlebitduckling · 10/04/2023 16:56

I used to think I was relatively pro-royal but I actually just had a lot of respect for the queen. She felt like a constant in a rapidly changing world and she was just so famous, I think she was good for British tourism etc. I really don’t care about Charles and Camilla at all. And all the Prince Andrew stuff and the Wills and Kate vs Harry and Megs drama makes me think they’re probably all pretty horrible.

Mamamia7962 · 10/04/2023 16:56

Looking forward to it, will be watching on TV. Love a bit of pomp, will be with family and getting the BBQ out if weather nice.

I'm annoyed there's bank holiday as it will be another day when people aren't at work

Crikeyalmighty · 10/04/2023 16:57

I'm just glad we aren't living in Windsor anymore- we had to go away for the funeral as our road was totally blocked off . Went to Dorset for 3 days .

BeautifulWar · 10/04/2023 16:57

I'm pretty ambivalent, but I'll take the extra day off, thanks! I definitely won't be going anywhere near London, and although I appreciate people enjoy the pageantry and want to feel part of something, it's not my cup of tea.

Same here.

Scottish people didn't give a flying fuck about the queen's funeral? The jubilee ok but the funeral seems a bit harsh! No one had to watch it but to not give a flying fuck, even if you didn't care for her being a queen, she was still an old lady with a family.

The PP can speak for herself but certainly not all Scottish people. I.know people who are keen Royalists, some anti & some who don't care. Just the same as everywhere else in the country

I know most people I know watched at least some of the jubilee celebrations & I don't know of a single person who didn't watch if not the funeral at least some of the coverage.

I really hate when one person tries to pass of their own views as that of the whole of Scotland

Goodfuckingriddance · 10/04/2023 17:01

JuneBridie · 10/04/2023 16:13

I’m Scottish, no one I know gives a flying fuck about the royals in general. Everyone I know is planning on actively avoiding the ceremony coverage, just like they did with the diamond jubilee and the queen’s funeral.

Exactly this only grateful for a day off.

AuntieMarys · 10/04/2023 17:02

I despise the royals so shall be ignoring the whole spectacle.

ILoveMyCaravan · 10/04/2023 17:02

I don't even know when it is and I couldn't care less. Hopefully I'll be abroad and won't have to listen or see any of it on the media.

Hintofreality · 10/04/2023 17:03

I care in the sense of the cost to the public purse, he should pay for it himself.

The poster did come back and clarify they only meant the people they know, not all of Scotland. But like you say, why even mention the country then if you don't mean to imply it's not everyone in Scotland!

Pubesofsoberness · 10/04/2023 17:04

I don't even know when it is . Have no interest in it

RememberingGoodTimes · 10/04/2023 17:05

I couldn't give two shits about Charles; he seems like a horrible man.

I'll happily take the bank holiday though! We'll just be relaxing and avoiding anything monarchy related.

Thepeopleversuswork · 10/04/2023 17:06

I couldn’t give a tinker’s fuck about King Charles or any of the royal entourage. I might watch it just because it’s a once in a lifetime thing and history in the making but they’re not my Royal Family and I couldn’t care less really.

MavisMcMinty · 10/04/2023 17:07

I spoke to my republican father over Easter, to say I’ll probably come up to stay with him over the coronation weekend, and he was horribly suspicious I’d want to drag him into London to queue in sleeping bags for two nights to get a good spot… but quickly reassured it’s just that my OH is off for the bank holidays which means I can leave the dogs here at home with him!

However, when he marvelled at the mentality of people wanting, CHOOSING to camp out in London to see an antiquated procession of supreme privilege and wealth, I said it’s very human to want to be part of something big, to be in a huge crowd, like a football match, or a massive march/protest, it’s exhilarating, tribal even.

Dad reminded me that Charles is his 4th monarch, and Brits just a year older than him will have had 5 monarchs in their lifetime, when so many of us have only known/lived through one until now.

Loria · 10/04/2023 17:08

Seems a bit nuts to be going all out on coronating this guy when you look at the mess that hankering after sovereignty has got us into these last few years.
