I enjoy anything supernatural (not really a fan of gore and blood etc). I like anything along the lines of,

The Conjuring
Incidious
Brahms

Wasn’t really a fan of,

Midsummer
Hereditary
The Witch

Hopefully you get the jist otherwise we’ll be here all day! Any suggestions welcome:)

I was absolutely terrified by ‘Us’ (Jordan Peele). Can’t really look at scissors now without getting a shiver.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 08/04/2023 20:27

Rosemary's Baby
The Omen

Greydogs123 · 08/04/2023 20:53

Find a Japanese one - they absolutely terrify me and aren’t usually gory.

HoogahToogah · 08/04/2023 20:56

Black Phone
Smile

I guess it depends on what streaming services you have available to you

User79853257976 · 08/04/2023 20:57

A limited series rather than a film but The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix.

ghostyslovesheets · 08/04/2023 21:00

Not sure how you feel about Korean Horror but The Sadness is possibly one of my favourite modern horror films - it's more an infection film and very gory but it blew me away

ghostyslovesheets · 08/04/2023 21:01

Taiwanese sorry not Korean!

foulksmills · 08/04/2023 21:04

Ooh I really enjoyed Smile

Other recs, [rec] and Martyrs. Both have supernatural elements.

I’ve never actually watched Us before so that’s a good shout. We’re just about to watch it now! I’ll come back with my feedback haha

I loved Smile! I’ve watched it about three times😂 it was a great film with a great ending.

I tried Black Phone but couldn’t get into it. I’m more than happy to watch foreign films so will give the one mentioned a try.

Streaming services isn’t a problem so I can watch more or less anything!

I watched smile recently and really enjoyed it!

Stickworm · 08/04/2023 21:09

the Japanese and Korean are masters of creepy horror. The prongs Ringu (The Ring) and The Grudge always got me. You sound v similar to my tastes as Conjuring and Insidious are two of my faves. All the paranormal activities - my suggestions are a bit old but honestly I find it hard to find anything to match any of the films I’ve mentioned above!

Stickworm · 08/04/2023 21:09

The original Ringu*

BananasForBrains · 08/04/2023 21:23

It sounds like you might like Sinister, if you haven’t seen that. The Woman in Black is also very good.

BananasForBrains · 08/04/2023 21:26

Also, it’s not exactly in the same vein, but if you like suspense, I thoroughly recommend Signs. It is probably one of the best movies ever made and it is quite terrifying in parts. I personally think it is better than the 6th sense.

HeyBulldog · 08/04/2023 21:36

The Deep House. It's a supernatural horror and quite creepy in places

ClaudiaCustard · 08/04/2023 21:37

The Platform is excellent and worth a watch

Phos · 08/04/2023 21:40

If you like The Conjuring films you'll probably like the Annabelle ones, thought imagine you may have seen them.

I seem to remember also having enjoyed:
Amityville Horror
Get Out
Dominion
Prequel to the Exorcist

Omg you are my person! I'm watching this thread too, I hate when I ask for horror suggestions and people suggest boring, unscary films like the ones you listed as not liking.

Have you even seen Hellhouse LLC? It's found footage style, which I normally hate, but it's good.

Not a film, but the series Marianne is the most terrifying thing I've ever seen.

MafaldaHopkirk · 08/04/2023 21:48

A quiet place. Not really horror, but a good watch.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 08/04/2023 21:49

Ooh @BlackBarbies have you seen Sinister with Ethan Hawke? I generally find films Bu Blumhouse to be good

That should just be Blumhouse, no idea how the Bu got in there.

Hamster1111 · 08/04/2023 21:51

I need to come back to these suggestions, love a good horror movie.

We watched that new Luther film on netflix the other night, that was really good, although not horror more thriller / disturbing (I've not watched Luther, but probably will now!)

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 08/04/2023 22:00

There's one out last year, a Danish film, Speak No Evil. Really chilling and well-paced.

I have say, as a hardcore horror film maven for the past 40 years, I would NOT watch Sinister again and wish I never had. It's extremely disturbing.

browbrows · 08/04/2023 22:00

Tonight we watched Dawn of the Dead. Excellent film and seen it many times now.

Also would recommend :

Sinister
Smile
Witch (it's an acquired taste but I absolutely loved it and it's really quite disturbing)
