I enjoy anything supernatural (not really a fan of gore and blood etc). I like anything along the lines of,

The Conjuring
Incidious
Brahms

Wasn’t really a fan of,

Midsummer
Hereditary
The Witch

Hopefully you get the jist otherwise we’ll be here all day! Any suggestions welcome:)

I’ll give In Fear a go tonight - my BIL has been nagging me to watch it as he’s a fellow horror fan and he said it was creepy.

I'm going to watch too! Looking forward to seeing more on this list

God I bloody loved Us. I think it was so different, a breath of fresh air. So much to think about after.

An old one but the Triamgle with Melissa George is great. Very clever. And quite sad too.

Haunting of Hill House is so good. And again sad too.

I think that's the thing with some of these films. Is definitely is good for thought, and Midsommer is creepy. But for me they're not typical horrors. I think if they're advertised as something else, maybe psychological thriller, then they'd go down in my memory as good. But when a film isn't the genre that I expect it to be, it ruins the experience and taints it in my mind.

@Hamster1111 Yes ably Manor is also based on a book, can't remember which one, think it might be The Turn of The Screw by Henry James?

I've watched all the American Horror Stories. The first and second series were my favourites. Although I LOVE Finn Wittrock so I enjoyed the series' with him too.

1,2 and 4 are my favourites. Hotel was awful for me but loads of people love it.

Tbh they haven't been good for a while but I still religiously watch, but I have to say the most recent one (New York) is the first one I never finished

I’m just about to start watching it now, in bed, on my own. Might keep the light on though 😁

Yes, definitely give orphan a try, you won't regret it. The first one is the best!

inigomontoyahwillcox · 09/04/2023 22:35

Just watched the black phone - if you like 70s set horrors (think the IT remakes, Stranger Things etc.) you'll like this.

I really enjoyed it.

AuntieMarys · 10/04/2023 08:15

Watched US last night...thought it was excellent. Good twist.
Going for Smile tonight

Let us know how you get on with Smile, I love it!

NotAnother yes I'd agree with that too.

Frankola · 10/04/2023 17:24

I don't understand the positive reviews for smile. We watched it recently and found it to be predictable and not at all scary.

EmmaEmerald · 10/04/2023 17:28

Sinister looks great but I only have Netflix
any non gory recs for that would be great....preferably no rape or general molesting of women, which sadly seems to be a thing.

Haunting of Hill House is amazing - although it's a series.

I watched the black phone last night a and enjoyed it. Not quite a horror as such more of a scary thriller but good

I've seen that, I thought it was superb. Bly Manor - didn't finish.

I might rewatch Insidious.

there's 1408, anyone seen that?

Also:

The Woman in Black
Insidious
Gerald's Game
Eli
Things Heard and Seen
Hannibal
Midnight Mass - Series
Ratched - Series (some gore)

Disclaimer: I can't remember what happens in all of these so they might not be suitable for you but I do remember enjoying them.

cornflakegeneration · 10/04/2023 17:57

@EmmaEmerald I've seen 1408 - it was ok but I don't remember loving it

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 10/04/2023 18:15

Creepy and unsettling but not horror is Black Mirror especially the first few series

EmmaEmerald · 10/04/2023 19:50

Thanks for the suggestions
the algorithm is really crap!

Laiste · 10/04/2023 20:20

Mirrors was creepy. It might have dated badly mind you - years since i saw it. About a night watchman in a massive old abandoned department store. One of those one's where you just think ''Naaah he'd say fuck the money i'm not going in there!'' But then there'd be no film ... 😂

I remember the one a pp was talking about Dark Water. It was very atmospheric in a dark depressing way.

99% of horror films these days are so formulaic and predictable.

Do you enjoy the Alien films OP?

NotAnotherBathBomb · 10/04/2023 20:54

'Host (UK)
A British horror set entirely on Zoom between multiple friends who’ve hired a woman to run an online seance for them. It’s one of the most innovative horror films we’d seen!'

I forgot about Host! Really well done, given the concept.

blebbleb · 10/04/2023 21:08

Host was great! Rewatching The Deep House on Netflix right now. So scary and love the atmosphere.

foulksmills · 10/04/2023 21:25

Anyone seen Old, a recent M. Night Shyamalan offering?

If you haven't, don't. It was pretty shit.

Yes I've seen it. It was ok. It was different. Watchable but forgettable.
