I enjoy anything supernatural (not really a fan of gore and blood etc). I like anything along the lines of,

The Conjuring
Incidious
Brahms

Wasn’t really a fan of,

Midsummer
Hereditary
The Witch

Hopefully you get the jist otherwise we’ll be here all day! Any suggestions welcome:)

@HeyDemonsItsYaGirl Yeah I understood that bit but I just wasn't sure at the very end when her friend turned up what had actually happened vs what was imagery/imagination

Ah yes. As every one of the men was identical I think we can assume they were all figments of her imagination.

cornflakegeneration · 16/04/2023 11:50

@HeyDemonsItsYaGirl
It was the blood on the doorstep that got me - what happened there?

blebbleb · 16/04/2023 12:55

@SpudsandGravy I found the babadook pretty boring.

Ah sorry, I don't remember that much detail - watched it a few months ago (and found it pretty bad tbh)

The Babadook seems to be on all the lists of the best scary films, but I thought it was pretty rubbish 😕 Did anybody here enjoy it? I think it may just be me.

Also agree Babadook is awful. No idea why so many people like it, maybe I watched the wrong film?

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 16/04/2023 21:29

I don't rate Babadook either, and it certainly wasn't scary.

Has anyone watched Men?

I enjoyed it but I really didn't understand the ending

Some parts of that were soooo creepy! But the the ending was probably too high brow for me to understand, it got ridiculous.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 16/04/2023 21:40

Omg just watched Incantation. Good recommendation, couldn't even watch it full on, needed distractions and paused once to turn the lamp on for a bit 😂 reminded me of Hellhouse LLC in its style.

Other films I've watched thanks to this thread:

Speak No Evil - not a horror, but a disturbing thriller. Enjoyed and would recommend.

In Fear - good simple film with lots of jumps. I'm positive I saw it years ago, all I remembered was the mixed up signage but nothing else 😂

Don't Blink - interesting concept, not very well executed.

When the Lights Went Out - not bad, but having watched The Conjuring 2 and The Enfield Haunting, which are both based on the 'true' story of the Enfield poltergeist, it felt same-y as there are a lot of similarities in both stories and they happened around the same time (70s).

I'm adding a few more new additions on this thread to my list!

BlackBarbies · 16/04/2023 22:45

9 pages of Horror recommendations is so nice to see! There have even been some decent Thriller recommendations that I’ve added to my list. Amazing:)

@BlackBarbies Babadook is a GREAT scary film. Don’t listen to the naysayers, it is really terrifying.

Have you seen Paranormal Activity? And the original Poltergeist? Both gooood.

I haven’t seen Babadook no! I first Googled it when someone suggested it and thought ‘mm that sounds alright’ but then so many posters kept on saying that it’s shit😂 it’s on BBC Iplayer so I may just give it a watch.

For some reason I’m not a fan of P.A. I just couldn’t get into it and ended up giving it up. Never heard of Poltergeist but I’ll look into it. This thread has made me realise that there are SO many Horror films out there

The original poltergeist still stands as a good creepy film. For some reason it used to show on cable TV in the middle of the day so it was a 'childhood' film for me and my brothers. I'd of course never show it to a child myself.

Marchintospring · 17/04/2023 00:06

Never heard of Poltergeist !! God now I feel old. Sadly not aged well. My kids in eye 20’s weren’t impressed. ( I still love it)

blahblahblah1654 · 17/04/2023 02:41

Whatever you do, don't watch skinamarink. Biggest load of nonsense! I switched off after 10 minutes!

cornflakegeneration · 17/04/2023 12:31

I also watched Poltergeist as a child. And Pet Sematary.

I remember watching IT at someone's house when I was about 11.

Sigh, the good old days

HoogahToogah · 17/04/2023 13:18

I haven't mentioned some of the older ones as thought you may have watched them but just in case -
the exorcism of Emily rose is one of my favourites, definitely worth a watch!

As mentioned, Skeleton Key is really good and will leave you thinking about it for ages after

Amityville Horror (not the original)

Not paranormal but not gory either - just very creepy and you won't want to stay in a remote American motel ever- Vacancy, with Kate Beckinsale

Oh similar tastes to me! I went to see Vacancy in the cinema with a friend and we terrified ourselves on the drive gone 😂

Skeleton Key is one of my favourite films. I listen to the soundtrack occasionally (such good music) and New Orleans is on my bucket list to visit thanks to the scenery

🙌 I've been to see some real duff horrors at the cinemas but I was massively surprised by Vacancy - it was the one film I expected to be poor but I actually really enjoyed!
