I enjoy anything supernatural (not really a fan of gore and blood etc). I like anything along the lines of,

The Conjuring
Incidious
Brahms

Wasn’t really a fan of,

Midsummer
Hereditary
The Witch

Hopefully you get the jist otherwise we’ll be here all day! Any suggestions welcome:)

@foulksmills it was ok. A little boring but watchable.

DerekFaker · 10/04/2023 21:31

Incantation and The Ritual on Netflix.

'Host (UK)
A British horror set entirely on Zoom between multiple friends who’ve hired a woman to run an online seance for them. It’s one of the most innovative horror films we’d seen!'

I forgot about Host! Really well done, given the concept.

Ah yeah I loved Host.

I know people found the unlikeable protagonist a bit too unlikeable, but I also enjoyed Dashcam from the same director.

I've seen that, I thought it was superb. Bly Manor - didn't finish.

I might rewatch Insidious.

there's 1408, anyone seen that?

@EmmaEmerald have you read the Stephen King story for 1408? That was scary.
The film is a bit “made for “TV so doesn’t capture the nuances that make the story so disturbing.

Every time I have to be in Orange light - street lights or crappy effects, even years on it reminds me of the book. The film is pretty forgettable.

Incantation and The Ritual on Netflix.

I really liked the ritual! First movie I had to turn off and watch in daylight. Didn't love the ending though.

Pedrotok · 11/04/2023 15:31

I liked Host. The deep house wasn't great. The descent was unintentionally hilarious to me, same with insidious. Smile did scare me because of a stupid pre-existing unchanging facial expression fear. The end of ring 0 nearly killed me 😂.

Us left me with so many questions and not in a good way.

My favourite film is A Tale of Two Sisters, it's a Korean horror but also so unbelievably sad when you realise what's going on. I don't think it's what you're looking for at all but it's really good 😂.
It had an American remake that somehow missed the entire point of the plot and they added a psychopath. Think that was called the uninvited.

The vigil was interesting. I watched something recently about priests that did exorcisms but I can't for the life of me remember what it was 🤔

Im pretty sure I watched sinister on netflix a few years ago and I can't decide if I want to risk watching it again 😂

That film is a masterpiece!

I watched Smile after reading this thread.

Loved it but I jumped out of my skin several times. My teenagers loved it too. Genuinely creeped out!

It’s a great watch right?! I love it and I’m a real scaredy-cat so the jump scares got me everytime. I watched it like this🫣

Happy your teenagers enjoyed it too! This is the best thread that I’ve ever started:) some really good suggestions here

It really is, down to the score. I was so annoyed at the remake, it was a travesty.

BlackBarbies · 13/04/2023 22:59

I just finished watching Host. My Lord that’s unsettled me🫣🫣🫣 only 58 mins but a fantastic film. If anyone’s got anything similar then I’d love to watch!

Babadock
it follows
ouija
ghost stories
Let the right one in

The Babadook seems to be on all the lists of the best scary films, but I thought it was pretty rubbish 😕 Did anybody here enjoy it? I think it may just be me.

I thought it was just ok. I was suprised by the hype around it once I'd watched it!

Funkyslippers · 14/04/2023 10:32

My faves, not really horror though, are The Others, Orphan & Misery

I didn't rate it either, but I though Essie Davies was very good and as a film about bereavement and grief I think it worked much better. The child was so annoying I was rooting for the thing to just get on with it, tbh Grin

BlackBarbies · 14/04/2023 22:04

I tried to watch The Others yesterday and I just couldn’t get into it! I think it’s because I like modern films as opposed to films set sometime in the past. I ended up going onto google to see the ending and it definitely seemed to have a decent twist.

I still have Host on my mind!

Host is a great film, isn’t it? I’ve watched it three times now and it still makes me jump.

Just in case it’s of any use to anyone, you can get a 7 day free trial for the Icon Channel if you’ve got Prime tv. It has a few decent horrors on it - DS is currently adding them to our watchlist so that’s our weekend lined up!

BlackBarbies · 14/04/2023 22:43

@ReginaPerrin it was fantastic! Really glad that it was recommended on here as I’d never heard of it before.

If you and DS watch any good horrors, report back to the chat and I’ll be sure to try and watch it!

Thanks those who recommended Watcher! Have just watched and enjoyed it a lot, which I rarely do. It's a thriller really, but it was scary and there's a bit of gore (not too much) for those who like that :)

38woman · 15/04/2023 21:04

If you can find it The Lodge was very good. Great ending. Also The Strays, really surprisingly good, unsettling but with some subtle twists x

Pickingmyselfup · 15/04/2023 21:10

I watched The Deep House yesterday, an absolutely terrible film but it passed the time.

Someone else also mentioned The Platform, I really liked that. I wouldn't say it's a horror or creepy but it's definitely disturbing.

cornflakegeneration · 15/04/2023 21:37

Has anyone watched Men?

I enjoyed it but I really didn't understand the ending

The, er, Russian doll births thing?

GilChesterton · 16/04/2023 00:52

Just finished 28 Weeks Later - brutal and exhausting!

cornflakegeneration · 16/04/2023 09:38

@HeyDemonsItsYaGirl Yeah I understood that bit but I just wasn't sure at the very end when her friend turned up what had actually happened vs what was imagery/imagination
