BlackBarbies · 08/04/2023 20:23

I enjoy anything supernatural (not really a fan of gore and blood etc). I like anything along the lines of,

The Conjuring
Incidious
Brahms

Wasn’t really a fan of,

Midsummer
Hereditary
The Witch

Hopefully you get the jist otherwise we’ll be here all day! Any suggestions welcome:)

If you like classics, The Haunting (1960) and The Innocents (60s) shit me up.

Redebs · 09/04/2023 13:50

I did enjoy this

I agree with previous suggestions of
The Loved Ones
Audition
In Fear
watched a few minutes of Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey the other day. It was really dreadful but I expected it would be !

ReginaPerrin · 09/04/2023 14:05

I’ll give In Fear a go tonight - my BIL has been nagging me to watch it as he’s a fellow horror fan and he said it was creepy.

The Others

I was going to recommend this too as it doesn’t get mentioned a lot, but I’ve watched a lot of horrors and this is one of my favourites. Genuinely scary with no gore or violence, very twisty with lots of mystery and a satisfying ending.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 09/04/2023 14:15

Already been said but found Smile unsettling just cause of the simple smile. And was nice to have one that didn't go completely bonkers by the end.

Speaking of M Night, have you seen The Visit? I really enjoyed that, having had very low expectations. @BlackBarbies that might be another one for you to check out

I started it but I just couldn’t get into it! I didn’t really like it

😂😂 love that story of you watching Sinister in the cinemas. I’m such a scaredy-cat, I could never watch a film like that in the cinemas. I’d spend most of my time with my eyes closed

You sound just like me @blackbarbies I love being scared but equally hide most of the time (often watching my DHs face for his reaction!) It's all a bit messed up as I'm scared but loving it at the same time. Probably some sort of psychological reason I'm sure

😂 that’s literally me. I’ll watch all these films hiding behind my hand or basically squinting. I can’t take the suspense but I really do love getting scared😅

With films like Midsommer and Hereditary, they just don’t scare me. Why am I watching the films with my eyes wide open?! I need to be hiding behind someone like with Sinister! Sinister was on my mind for about a week

I think I’ll be watching The Others tonight. That one sounds right up my street.

Super happy I started this thread:) I’ll be trying a few series that have been recommended too

In Fear and Candyman are currently free to watch on All4.

Thank you!! I have been wanting to re-watch In Fear FOR AGES and have never have been able to find it anywhere. Just been onto All4 and says it's available for another 14 days 👍

God I bloody loved Us. I think it was so different, a breath of fresh air. So much to think about after.

An old one but the Triamgle with Melissa George is great. Very clever. And quite sad too.

Haunting of Hill House is so good. And again sad too.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 09/04/2023 16:08

Doh. Triangle

Babadock
it follows
ouija
ghost stories
Let the right one in

It Fillows is definitely a good one. So so creepy

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 09/04/2023 16:10

There is a Spanish zombie one I can remember the name of, a found footage at a wedding film.

That was great.

If you like zombies All of us are Dead on Netflix is worth a watch. Good characters too

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 09/04/2023 16:11

Now I'm working through the thread OP I'm thinking you'll definitely not like my suggestions Grin

Ahh different strokes and all that!

I prefer psychological/disturbing rather than horror and I've got to say Midsommar was one of the best films I've seen. It's very different.
Not in line with what you've already suggested but it was worth a mention. Stays with you.

It's weird as immediately after and during watching this I hated it, thought it was dreadful.

It got under my skin though and I've googled it loads since then and actually I think it's good now Grin

SocksAndTheCity · 09/04/2023 16:20

I think the Spanish wedding zombie one would be Rec 3: Genesis, @tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz . I enjoyed that too 😀

traintraveller · 09/04/2023 16:22

The orphanage

edwinbear · 09/04/2023 16:27

We watched Megan on Friday night. Had to pay for it, but it’s one of the best films I’ve watched in a very long time. Really got us thinking about AI and the unintended consequences. Also quite unbelievable to realise it was a child playing the doll, she was an incredible actor.

Heartofglass12345 · 09/04/2023 16:31

There's a film called martyr (different to martyrs) which is good, it's set in Scotland.
Also the skeleton key you might like if you like the sound of the others.
There's also one either called ghost land or incident in a ghost land which I enjoyed.

Heartofglass12345 · 09/04/2023 16:31

Have you seen Orphan? I love horror films Grin

Really?! What did you like about Us? I watched it yesterday and I just thought ‘what the actual fuck’ when it got to the ending. Like Red was the mum the whole time because they switched so what was even the point of the movie?! I have so many questions and they’re all unanswered, even Google or Reddit couldn’t help me.

I did watch All of us are dead on Netflix. Soooo so good! I love Zombies and thought that it was a great watch. Patiently waiting for season 2. Will it ever come? I hope so😬

@Hamster1111 Yes ably Manor is also based on a book, can't remember which one, think it might be The Turn of The Screw by Henry James?

I've watched all the American Horror Stories. The first and second series were my favourites. Although I LOVE Finn Wittrock so I enjoyed the series' with him too.

I haven’t watched any of the ones you’ve mentioned and also haven’t seen Orphan. The poster always looked a bit dull to me so I never gave it a try. I always go into films blind so you think it’s worth watching? I may give it a go.

Does anyone have any plans to watch Evil Dead Rise that comes out later this month? I couldn’t watch it in cinemas as I couldn’t handle that but it’s on my list of things to watch by the end of the year
