Who is being unreasonable over flat tyre on car DD or DH

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:15

Hi DD19 came home with flat tyre after work today & husband wasn’t too happy about it & started shouting about it not at her but about the car having a flat tyre. Bit of background here - DD has paid 1700 this month from her wages/savings towards the car to pay it off & is also paying off her student finance. So DD didn’t think it was right for her to pay 100 pounds for the flat tyre but DH didn’t want to pay it as it isn’t his car even though DD is paying a lot of money towards the car to pay it off & student finance to pay that off as well. DH reluctantly paid the 100 pounds for the flat tyre but isn’t happy about it and both are not talking to the other as they both argued about it. So who is being more unreasonable & AIBU to keep out of it or just let them get on with it

Huh 🤔 if it's her car surely she pays?

Pixiedust1234 · 01/04/2023 21:16

Whose car is it, and who drives it?

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:17

DDs car she drives it but DH is main driver on it

Why was he not happy about the flat tyre?

Why did he shout at her?

Coulddowithanap · 01/04/2023 21:18

If it's her car then it's her responsibility.

Changingplace · 01/04/2023 21:18

Whose car is it? If it’s her car she needs to pay for the tyre - that’s part of owning a car, what else she’s paid out this month isn’t relevant.

SofiaAmes · 01/04/2023 21:19

Why does a flat tyre cost 100 pounds to repair?

TeaStory · 01/04/2023 21:19

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:17

DDs car she drives it but DH is main driver on it

If he drives it more than she does, surely he should be paying towards upkeep?

DDs car she drives it but DH is main driver on it

Fronting is illegal.

As it's her car she should pay.

And they need to get the insurance set up properly and legally.

Do you mean on the insurance he’s the main driver and she’s a named driver?

If it’s her car it’s her responsibility, but your DH is unreasonable to shout about it, nobody intentionally gets a flat tyre.

DDs car she drives it but DH is main driver on it

So she lets her dad drive the car, but she pays for it, and her dad is annoyed at having to contribute towards it?

IoooAINToooSAYINGoooSHEoooA · 01/04/2023 21:20

Why is he the main driver? But anyway it's her car, she's an adult and it happened while she was out. She should pay for it.

TeaStory · 01/04/2023 21:19

If he drives it more than she does, surely he should be paying towards upkeep?

And if he doesn’t drive it more than she does, she should be the main driver on the insurance policy.

Mythicalcreatures · 01/04/2023 21:20

If its dd's car it's her responsibility, maybe a lesson for her on budgeting, £1700 was unrealistic for her to pay off in one month.

Yes on insurance DH is main driver & she drives it

Why was he not happy about the flat tyre?

Why did he shout at her?

Says he didn't shout at her, just a bit shouting about the whole business possibly because he knew he was going to have to pay for it.

What caused the flat, was it preventable?
Why is he the main driver of her car? Is it just for insurance?

IoooAINToooSAYINGoooSHEoooA · 01/04/2023 21:22

So is he actually not the main driver at all in real life, just for the insurance policy? Or does he mainly drive it?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 01/04/2023 21:22

Yeah, you can't do that...

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 01/04/2023 21:22

If he's only the main driver on the insurance then the tire is nothing to do with him.

Newname221 · 01/04/2023 21:23

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:21

Yes on insurance DH is main driver & she drives it

Does DH drive it?

If he isn’t the main driver, you are commuting insurance fraud. Just fyi.

Yep, that'll be fronting, or insurance fraud then! You need to get that sorted straight because if she has an accident and they find out, then she may well find herself liable for the cost of any claim.

But if it is her car and she uses it, she should pay for the tyre.

ZeroWorshipHere · 01/04/2023 21:25

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:21

Yes on insurance DH is main driver & she drives it

sounds like fronting to me - that’s illegal.

if dd owns the car and is the main user the insurance should be in her name. Putting her car in his name to get cheaper premiums is fraud

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:21

This is called fronting and if she had an accident and this came to light the insurance might not pay up!

Could the tyre not be repaired? Her car so she needs to pay for it.

IoooAINToooSAYINGoooSHEoooA · 01/04/2023 21:27

Shes got much bigger problems than a tyre if she's lying to the insurance. Either way the insurance is absolutely nothing to do with a tyre, welcome to the real world for your DD.

Pixiedust1234 · 01/04/2023 21:27

Does he actually drive the car or is that just for illegal insurance purposes?

If she owns it, mainly drives it then its her responsibility to fix it AND pay for it.
