Who is being unreasonable over flat tyre on car DD or DH

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:15

Hi DD19 came home with flat tyre after work today & husband wasn’t too happy about it & started shouting about it not at her but about the car having a flat tyre. Bit of background here - DD has paid 1700 this month from her wages/savings towards the car to pay it off & is also paying off her student finance. So DD didn’t think it was right for her to pay 100 pounds for the flat tyre but DH didn’t want to pay it as it isn’t his car even though DD is paying a lot of money towards the car to pay it off & student finance to pay that off as well. DH reluctantly paid the 100 pounds for the flat tyre but isn’t happy about it and both are not talking to the other as they both argued about it. So who is being more unreasonable & AIBU to keep out of it or just let them get on with it

DH is main driver to car but is on insurance so it’s cheaper for DD to drive to work and back

So your DD is happily committing insurance fraud to save money and now trying to wriggle out of paying for her flat tyre.

She sounds like an entitled little madam! I think some serious growing up is needed here.

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 01/04/2023 21:39

ItLs illegal OP.

Fronting

Royalbloo · 01/04/2023 21:39

This is 100% fronting to get out of paying more for insurance.

I'm sure you've saved more than that by what you've done.

LIZS · 01/04/2023 21:40

Her car, her tyre, her bill.

SpecialControlGroup · 01/04/2023 21:40

Well one of the joys of car ownership is paying for tyres and stuff. Does your husband drive the car more than her? If not is it not fronting to have him as the main driver?

Your DD is unreasonable

Hesma · 01/04/2023 21:41

That insurance set up illegal. If it’s DD car she pays

Newname221 · 01/04/2023 21:42

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:33

DH is main driver to car but is on insurance so it’s cheaper for DD to drive to work and back

… so why is your daughter paying off the car if it’s not her car?
If your dd takes the car to work and back, presumably it’s parked at her work a lot of the time? Therefore when does your husband drive it if he is the “main” driver?

ArnoldRimmerGivingQuicheAChance · 01/04/2023 21:42

@Safarigiraffe Agree with others - this is 'fronting', aka insurance fraud. Carry on like this, and a flat tyre will be the least of your DH and DD's problems.

We've all been there with the novice drivers and the expensive insurance premium problem, but if you can't afford it, you don't do it. What if there was an accident which was your DD's fault, and then they found out about your illegal 'fronting'? Your DD would struggle to ever get insurance again, quite apart from the trouble she and your DH would be in legally and financially.

Forget the tyre, OP. Deal with the real issue here.

What’s the bet OP doesn’t return?

CombatBarbie · 01/04/2023 21:44

Aquamarine1029 · 01/04/2023 21:29

but DH didn’t want to pay it as it isn’t his car

Um, you've told the insurance company that it is indeed his car. 🙄

Are people really this daft?

Erm, registered keepers aren't owners of vehicles. I'm sure he ticked the it's a other car in the household button. He isn't the registered keeper etc etc

pinkpotatoez · 01/04/2023 21:44

What do you mean she doesn't wanted to pay it, will she be on the bus on Monday to work then? Confused it's her car obviously she pays it

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:44

Greenshake · 01/04/2023 21:43

What’s the bet OP doesn’t return?

Why would I not return when I was just asking a question on who was being more unreasonable & as much as I agree here I don’t want to be dragged into their arguing over this

ArnoldRimmerGivingQuicheAChance · 01/04/2023 21:44

@Greenshake probably high, sadly 😞

userxx · 01/04/2023 21:45

I paid £36 for a puncture repair last week.

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 01/04/2023 21:46

@Safarigiraffe You and your DH and DD may want to look up the challenges they will face if they get CIFAS makers for insurance fraud.

DoeRayMe · 01/04/2023 21:46

More info needed tbh

DD drove car and found puncture. How long was she out in the car and was it a sudden puncture or was it starting to look flat and took to shop who found puncture?

Who drove the car in the week leading up to the puncture and how far/long?

Could be the previous trips were the ones the picked up the puncture but sometimes it takes days to become evident.

Lastly who legally owns the car, assuming DD from previous posts and who drives it the most?

ArnoldRimmerGivingQuicheAChance · 01/04/2023 21:46

So are you going to address the issue of the illegal insurance fronting that's going on in your situation?

PuddlesPityParty · 01/04/2023 21:48

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:33

DH is main driver to car but is on insurance so it’s cheaper for DD to drive to work and back

This is fraud.

TrombonesAreNotBones · 01/04/2023 21:49

DD has paid 1700 this month from her wages/savings towards the car to pay it off Who is she paying this lump to? Did you/DH buy the car for DD and she pays you back bit by bit?

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:49

ArnoldRimmerGivingQuicheAChance · 01/04/2023 21:46

So are you going to address the issue of the illegal insurance fronting that's going on in your situation?

Yes I do agree about the fronting part which shouldn’t of happened at all but that’s on them however I was asking on who should of paid the tyre & who was being more unreasonable here on the tyre

OP posts:
PuddlesPityParty · 01/04/2023 21:50

& if it’s your DDs car and it happened whilst she was driving then yes she needs to pay. I think the clue of whose car it really is is that she’s the one whose just finished paying it off 🙄

Greenshake · 01/04/2023 21:50

@Safarigiraffe I thought you weren’t coming back as you didn’t want to face the huge amount of people who have highlighted the blatant insurance fraud going on.

Safarigiraffe · 01/04/2023 21:50

DH paid for a lump sum for the car & yes DD is paying DH back for the car bit by bit
