To ask how much your summer 2023 holiday is costing?

I know things have changed since last year but wow. Even compromising the price is still wow. To the point I'd rather pay for exactly what I want than pay so much for the compromise.

I need to get some perspective I think on whats the going rate these days. I dont like to discuss money with family and friends so would rather ask here.

Would you share if you are having a holiday, what you are paying, family size, board and term time or not so I can work out if I am BU in my budget?

Same view on wow here. Priced the exact same hol I had booked in 2020 and it’s 50% more. Can’t bear the idea of paying ££ for a worse hol than before 😫

voxnihili · 25/02/2023 21:51

Summer holidays, 14 nights, all inclusive, 2 adults and one child - £4K.

Also going 10 nights in October - part half term, part term time, all inclusive, 2 adults and one child - £3.5K

We have booked a caravan break with friends so far. Each caravan is around £500 and each family has their own. This is for a week including all entertainment passes and so on, self catering. We have budgeted £150/day spending money, we could obviously do this a lot cheaper if need be.

We are also looking at going abroad and can get all 4 of us (2adults, a child and an infant) for under £1500 for a basic 3* AI, we are deciding if we want to do this or if we want to go for a nicer self catering. We eat out most of the time anyway.

voxnihili · 25/02/2023 21:52

We’ve found prices to be fairly similar to the last few years. I was expecting more of an increase - have played around with flight times though to get the best deal.

Swiftswatch · 25/02/2023 21:52

The thing is that isn’t the going rate though.
Go on a travel website and have a look at locations you would like and you will see what you can afford.

Ten randoms saying they spend 2k and another ten randoms saying they spend 10k is irrelevant.

MotherOfPuffling · 25/02/2023 21:53

Ex is taking DD on holiday in the UK and it’s costing 50% more than last year apparently (I don’t know exact costs).

Confusedabout · 25/02/2023 21:53

Week AI 2 adults in June is 1.5k.

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 25/02/2023 21:55

Lots, but we are having a big, unusual for us holiday this year. Last year was 10 days b&b in Spain and we kept costs low by self catering as much as possible and minimising activities.

Smarshian · 25/02/2023 21:56

We haven’t booked to go abroad in the summer, but have an Easter break to Lanzarote 7 nights, All inclusive, 2 adults, 2 Dc (we are taking the kids out for last day of school) £2300.

grayhairdontcare · 25/02/2023 21:58

10 nights self catering for 2 in September in Crete £650

usernotfound0000 · 25/02/2023 21:59

May half term. 7 nights self catering. Family of 4. 2k. Booked last summer though so not sure if it will have cost more if booked this year.

saveforthat · 25/02/2023 22:01

10 nights half board in Kos, September, 2 adults, £4K.

NellietheElephantpackedhertrunks · 25/02/2023 22:02

£££. But as a PP said, that won’t affect you so just DYR

CooCooNut · 25/02/2023 22:07

7 nights
Spain
September
2 adults & 2 toddlers
2 bed SC apartment
£1400 (not including transfers)

BeanCalledPickle · 25/02/2023 22:07

Last year I paid 2800 euros for eight nights AI in 4* Majorca. This year the same is 3300. Useful as an indicator of what I should expect. I do wonder how high things can go. Five grand plus for a week in Majorca in the summer is surely behind the reach of most people ??

Moonshine86 · 25/02/2023 22:08

3800 2 adults 2 children May half term Florida. Flights and hotel.
This doesn’t include theme park tickets!!

Moonshine86 · 25/02/2023 22:08

1 week

kenadams86 · 25/02/2023 22:08

7 nights Lanzarote august 23
Self catering 3 star hotel including flights
2 adults 3 kids
£1850

Think we got a bit of a bargain. Hotel looks nice and has good reviews, nothing fancy but it has a nice pool, kids club and near the beach

Houseplantmad · 25/02/2023 22:08

Our sunshine holiday is a four day weekend in Menorca at the end of June. I was amazed to get flights at sociable times for £84 return each today, so booked them straight away (Vuelling is having a sale).
We’re also having a week in Wales which will cost us petrol only as we’re staying in a friend’s place.

Jason118 · 25/02/2023 22:09

£0 - summer holiday? Can't afford that.Confused

Casilero · 25/02/2023 22:10

3 of us going to Corfu for 7 days self catering for 1700. This is pretty comparable price wise with what we've spent in the past for similar holidays on the face of it, but it's going with Ryanair who I absolutely hate with a passion and I've spent ages shopping around. My daughter and partner both really wanted to go somewhere in Greece though and to be fair I am looking forward to it myself. We're going to Sidari.

I do agree though that prices are way higher than in previous years. We wanted to go away May spring Bank week but couldn't afford it as everything was so much more than we usually pay, plus my daughter's got her English GCSE before and after, so we decided to just go somewhere for a few days in this country instead.

Changechangechanging · 25/02/2023 22:11

7 nights, family of 4 Cotswolds, £700 for a cottage. We have existing English Heritage and National Trust memberships which will run till the week after so that's helpful.

I am going away with a friend to central Europe, assuming no war escalation. That has cost £450 for flights and hotel. We will be doing lots of sightseeing and eating out so will probably need as much again.

GHxx · 25/02/2023 22:13

I’m pregnant, due in the summer and have left it last minute so now looking to go next month. We’re booking a 5, usually go 4 or 5 but this is the last time our toddler will be free (unless we find a free child place and in that case it probably won’t be in a 5* hotel we’ll choose).. it’s around £1100 each for an off peak time, Gran Canaria. To be fair a few years ago we went to Tenerife to a really nice hotel in summer and paid the same but I concluded the same thing after trying to just find ANY holiday with a half decent hotel, I would rather just pay the extra and know I’m going to relax and enjoy myself when I get there. We went to a ‘compromise’ hotel once in Tenerife and looking back I really didn’t have that same relaxed holiday feeling. I feel like that sounds snobby but to me the whole point of a holiday is you go somewhere really lovely for a week and escape your ordinary life. My in-laws go lots of holidays to the cheapest hotels and boast about it, I just politely smile but to me a holiday is supposed to be a little bit of luxury that you really look forward to and treasure while you’re there!

Slimjimtobe · 25/02/2023 22:13

We will have a week in Europe (not in a beach my area - town and we stay in a resort then a few days at a hostel) August: approx 1500 for 4 of us

LaFemmeDamnee · 25/02/2023 22:14

3 nights in a caravan park on the east coast of England, has a pool, adventure playground, by the beach, £230. Luckily my children are young and easily pleased.
