To ask how much your summer 2023 holiday is costing?

Doxxy17 · 25/02/2023 21:46

I know things have changed since last year but wow. Even compromising the price is still wow. To the point I'd rather pay for exactly what I want than pay so much for the compromise.

I need to get some perspective I think on whats the going rate these days. I dont like to discuss money with family and friends so would rather ask here.

Would you share if you are having a holiday, what you are paying, family size, board and term time or not so I can work out if I am BU in my budget?

A cruise around Spain, Portugal and France is costing £1550 for 4 of us including coach to Southampton, it’s going to be a bit of a squeeze in the cabin but we’ll be exploring most days and just want a bed and a bathroom. This was booked last September for this September.

It was the only abroad holiday that we could afford this year, packages are more expensive than this.

Guis · 26/02/2023 11:32

Some people are just very rich. And probably don't all work.
No cost of living crisis ! A not too long ago post asked how much savings people had and a lot on here had tens of thousands.
But some people do have very little.
Haven't booked a holiday yet. But some of the prices are crazy.

WaggyTailsWetNoses · 26/02/2023 11:37

We don’t book package holidays so can’t compare package prices. DD14 and DS11 share a twin room, DH and I share a double.

Easter holidays 7 nights driving tour of Ansdalucia, staying in 3/4 star city hotels. Will be about 5k. Last year staying in Sorrento and getting about by train was about the same.

Summer 10 nights in Slovenia in 3 star hotels will be about 7K. Last year a driving trip in France plus a week in a villa was 9K.

A week in the Peak District in a cottage will be about 1K- 650 for a small cottage and then just a few entrance fees and a couple of meals out.

So I haven’t noticed a big difference, apart perhaps flights, but that might be because we shop around and book ourselves. I imagine package breaks are much more as they are trying to recoup covid losses on top of the col crisis.

iluvsummer · 26/02/2023 11:46

7 nights
Kos
2 adults 3 children
4* all inclusive swim up maisonette
August school holidays
£4.2k
Booked with easyJet when they had their sale on

Jmnjp · 26/02/2023 11:57

Cornwall in July school holidays, 2 weeks self catering, 2 adults and 2 children. 3 bed house with shared pool/tennis/facilities, next to the beach. £3K. Price 5 years ago was 30% less. Next year we will probably go abroad as I'm not sure its worth the money anymore despite the convenience.

Gwen82 · 26/02/2023 12:07

I booked easy key flights the nano second they came available

Madrid one adult and two children Easter £228 return

Alcudia one adult and two children school summer holidays £248 return

cheaper than I’ve paid last few years!

WentForAWalk · 26/02/2023 12:54

2.7k just for me. 2 weeks all inclusive 4*

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 26/02/2023 13:46

sure it depends on income but also what you prioritise in life. I have zero expensive hobbies, I nearly never eat out, we don’t do expensive experiences, we buy most of the kids clothes on vinted and we don’t have expensive or new cars. But we enjoy holidays and like to spend money on it. I also shop around a lot for good deals and sometimes the kids miss a day or two at school for better flight deals. Saves £££ and their education won’t suffer because of a day (especially last day of term where they often do nothing anyway).

LibbyL92 · 26/02/2023 10:54

the vegas one was meant to be during the pandemic.. so that one was paid for nearly 2 years ago. (Moved various times)

I mentioned I’m a single person paying. If I had a family of course I would not be able to afford them all.

Why I would lie I don’t know…

I do not have children. I cannot afford all those holidays. Nor can the majority of people who work in 'normal' jobs.

Leave as well, the majority of employers wouldn't let you have leave off every month. 🤷‍♀️

yhjn84 · 26/02/2023 14:00

@Mademetoxic Libby has 5 holidays under 7 days, most people I know have 6 weeks of leave a year, 5 holidays is not "every month". The prices she is paying are completely plausible. You're coming across extremely bitter.

Why would I come across as bitter?
I do have holidays abroad. Last time was September abroad.

Just the majority of people I know who have a normal job (which this board does not attract clearly) would never be able to get time off every month and to even afford all those holidays every month too.

It's not being bitter. Being in the real world. When many people are struggling with rising prices in food etc

traintraveller · 26/02/2023 14:04

Mademetoxic FFS give it a rest will you.

yhjn84 · 26/02/2023 14:06

@Mademetoxic you're coming across as bitter as you have been continuously coming back to this thread throughout the day talking shite about people lying and obsessing about annual leave. Why do you keep saying "every month" the one poster you've picked on has 5 holidays, last time I checked there are 12 months in a year. Is there someone here who has said they are taking 12 holidays?

You do understand what “majority of people I know” means?

Very little

Think what you want..I just don't believe what the majority of posters say on these boards.
It's anon after all.

I do go abroad on holidays. Just not in the space that this person is supposedly doing and to the cost as well.

It would clean most people out (I have no children) especially with rising costs for food, housing etc.

Minimochi · 26/02/2023 14:13

We haven't booked anything for the summer holidays, yet. We'll see...
It's usually hot and sunny where we live, so we can usually just do trips around here.

For Easter, we've got a UK holiday booked in Cornwall. Two weeks, one of those self-catering in a cottage. Two adults and one child. A little under 1k. That includes travel costs. (We don't live in the UK at the moment, so usually use the Channel Tunnel.)

yhjn84 · 26/02/2023 14:15

@Mademetoxic so your argument is that you don't go abroad as often as Libby, most people couldn't afford to do so, so she is obviously lying. Right, ok.

Gwen82 · 26/02/2023 14:15

I’ve thought the vast majority has been very reasonable and realistic, punctuated by a few saying none at all and a few spending many many thousands

I doubt anyone is lying 🤷‍♀️

Gwen82 · 26/02/2023 14:17

@Mademetoxic

do you really not look around you and see… some cars costing a few hundred, some costing >£100k

some houses costing £150k some costing >£1.5mil

some wearing primark. Some wearing Gucci

I could go

it is baffling you can’t grasp this fact

My 21 year old is going on 4 holidays abroad in April. Funded himself, 5 days in each place. Taken a month off with no pay.

I have 6 weeks off a year and can get extra time off easily by working toil. I can take my AL whenever I want. Money isn't a huge issue as I earn well.

Not everyone is in the same boat as you.

JMSA · 26/02/2023 14:20

Ex husband is taking our kids away this summer (we do it in turns, so every second year) and I am having a week in Crete in July with my best friend.
One week half-board in a sea-view room, including flights, luggage and transfers, for £600 each.

Lordofmyflies · 26/02/2023 14:24

Summer Holiday is costing £12,000, for 4,(2 adults and 2 older teens). That's B&B, in school summer holiday time. Included flights to European country, 1 week in a villa with daily trips to extreme sports / watersports e.g white water rafting, then 1 week in a 5 star boutique hotel.

Crunchymum · 26/02/2023 14:27

£900 for a cottage (sleeps 6) on Kent coast for 10 nights in July. Missing last few days of term otherwise it would would have been £1k.

Cottage is small but perfectly adequate and is a 10 minute walk from the nearest beach.

Same price as last year but we know the owners as we book same place several times a year so they give us a wee discount.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 26/02/2023 14:28

Holidays are so expensive this year. I've just booked a family city break and then a beach add on in Europe and have spent more than intended. My DH keeps muttering but its only Europe.

As a comparison I've just checked out a hotel we stayed in the Caribbean 5 years ago and the price has gone up 60%, totally out of our reach now.

Nottodaysausage · 26/02/2023 14:35

This year ds and I are doing

Florida 1 week - 4.5k

Paris 4 nights - 1.5k

London 3 nights- 1.3k

I earn the national average, but have tiny flat that is cheap to run, I never have takeaways or eat in restaurants unless it's a birthday etc, i buy all my clothes coats etc second hand, use public transport as the links are great where I live.
I'm sure my priorities will shift eventually and I'll want a bigger house and a car etc but I'm just trying to see the world and enjoy life ever since restrictions lifted 😊
