To ask how much your summer 2023 holiday is costing?

Doxxy17 · 25/02/2023 21:46

I know things have changed since last year but wow. Even compromising the price is still wow. To the point I'd rather pay for exactly what I want than pay so much for the compromise.

I need to get some perspective I think on whats the going rate these days. I dont like to discuss money with family and friends so would rather ask here.

Would you share if you are having a holiday, what you are paying, family size, board and term time or not so I can work out if I am BU in my budget?

Same as the last few years for me (single parent) and my 2 kids…..4 or 5 nights camping under the stars in a rural spot, non-electric pitch, stunning scenery…. £100 approx.

Hiking by day, cooking on a fire pit and making hot chocs to drink star-gazing by night.

Kids can’t wait, and neither can I!

10 nights half board in Kos, September, 2 adults, £4K.

Is that school holidays ?

10 nights AI 2 adults £1940 mid May. Can't take the heat 😥

ToxicPoppy · 25/02/2023 22:16

We’re (me and then 17yo ds) driving through Europe at Easter, staying in cheap b&b’s, then a static caravan in Switzerland for 4 nights. All self catering. Costing about £600 in total.

When he breaks up from college in July, we’re going to Dorset for 4 nights on a haven site for £250.

Also got lots of camping breaks booked in my touring caravan which are minimal cost (rarely go above £20 a night unless the site is really special), and I’ll probably go over to my friend’s in Spain in October which will cost me flights and a few meals out.

Definitely had to pull the reins in this year as everything has gone up so much, but we aren’t an all inclusive hotel type of family anyway to be fair.

GiltEdges · 25/02/2023 22:16

It's no bad thing really, overseas holidays have been underpriced for years. If the increase in prices encourages even some of the people who would have gone abroad this summer to holiday in the UK instead then the environmental impact will be huge.

JaceLancs · 25/02/2023 22:20

Not having a summer holiday as got a family wedding which will take all my funds
I might manage a winter sun canaries holiday and will expect to pay £1k for 2 adults

2 adults 2 children half board 1 wk to Crete August £3300

pettyprudence · 25/02/2023 22:25

Our summer holiday to France is costing much the same as previous years - accommodation hasn't really increased but the variable will be fuel and food. £1400 covers fuel, travel and accommodation for 4 of us for 10 nights - 2 campsites with all the usual pools and kids clubs. As we are self catering, food usually comes in at about £600ish.

Our May half term holiday - going to a different site than usual in Spain. The accommodation costs are not that different to previous years in comparable places but oooph the flights are astronomical! In fairness we don't normally fly during holidays (bunk off during term time) so I can't really say how much they have gone up by. 3 nights in Spain is costing £1300 for travel and accommodation plus another few hundred for food. Will cost broadly the same as our 10 nights in France.

mnahmnah · 25/02/2023 22:29

It’s crazy this year. I spent a week obsessively trying to find the best deal, pricing up seperately etc.

The best deal for us has worked out £3400, 10 nights, 2 adults 2 children, all inclusive, Kos.

mnahmnah · 25/02/2023 22:29

Sorry - should say that is July summer holidays!

Kendodd · 25/02/2023 22:30

Thing is, going on holiday, especially on a plane abroad, should be expensive. Things like rent/mortgage/heating should be comfortably affordable for everyone. For a long time flights around the world have been cheap and rent has cost a fortune. Unfortunately holiday prices have rocketed and so has everything else.

Are you equally berating private jet owners as they're responsible for over 50% of air miles alone? Or are you more concerned about plebs going to the med once a year?

DancingDaughter50 · 25/02/2023 22:35

Same op flights are so expensive!

We are doing two nights in a b and b may half term about 240 plus tickets to a water park? About 100.on top.

Then hopefully France in October I seem to have found a nice hotel for about 700 euros for 4, 3 nights then theme park will be about 650 Inc accmd. Flights are 400.

Probably 200 for parking and extras?

Crete 18th May for 2 adults 1 child (3) all inclusive £2500

TheClitterati · 25/02/2023 22:36

We haven't been out of the country since 2019.

We are going to Italy for 2 weeks and it's costing about £5.5k. Me & 2 teens. We are moving around. We aren't being extravagant about anything & it's a good third more than I was expecting to pay.

DancingDaughter50 · 25/02/2023 22:36

Oh yes the poor can stay at home and saves the planet whilst the rich get to see the planet 😂.

IreallyLikeCrisps · 25/02/2023 22:37

3 adults 2 teens. Disney Florida 14 nights in October, flying out week before half term. Staying on site at the cheapest premium Disney hotel for 6 nights, animal kingdom lodge for 4 nights & most expensive hotel at universal studios for 4 nights. Economy premium flying out, business flying home. £30k. Park passes included but no food for the first 6 nights. Animal kingdom & Universal are club rooms so we can get breakfast there and snacks. This is a ridiculous amount of money and I have nothing to compare it to, as never done it before and I won't do it again either! Estimating £15k spending money over 2 weeks.

Whenwillitstop1 · 25/02/2023 22:39

2.2k for a week all inclusive to kos. 2 adults, 2 kids, In May half term but taking oldest out of school for last 2 days.

£45k for two weeks (and flying premium economy one way), seriously?

I’m pregnant, due in the summer and have left it last minute so now looking to go next month. We’re booking a 5, usually go 4 or 5 but this is the last time our toddler will be free (unless we find a free child place and in that case it probably won’t be in a 5* hotel we’ll choose).. it’s around £1100 each for an off peak time, Gran Canaria. To be fair a few years ago we went to Tenerife to a really nice hotel in summer and paid the same but I concluded the same thing after trying to just find ANY holiday with a half decent hotel, I would rather just pay the extra and know I’m going to relax and enjoy myself when I get there. We went to a ‘compromise’ hotel once in Tenerife and looking back I really didn’t have that same relaxed holiday feeling. I feel like that sounds snobby but to me the whole point of a holiday is you go somewhere really lovely for a week and escape your ordinary life. My in-laws go lots of holidays to the cheapest hotels and boast about it, I just politely smile but to me a holiday is supposed to be a little bit of luxury that you really look forward to and treasure while you’re there!

See, a soulless 5* all inclusive not my idea of a good time now.I’ve done it and it’s nice every now and then, but I’d rather put more of my budget into experiences while I’m away and stay somewhere less fancy - we literally just use the hotel to sleep.

No not school holidays but premium hotel, swim up room.

Radiatorvalves · 25/02/2023 22:48

We’ve just spent £3k on flights for 4 to the US. Will be part staying in hotels and part with friends. I suspect we’ll spend about £15k in total. That’s about what we spent 8 years ago on a NYC/Florida holiday (including a few days at Animal Kingdom Lodge), can’t quite understand how PP is getting to £45k.

We may also go to France. £500 for weeks accommodation, and with Chunnel and petrol, that will probably come to about £2k.
