If you take vitamin supplements have you noticed a difference in how you feel?

Off to check my emails .🤔😕
First hidden message in over 12 years !

What dodgy/illegal stuff have you been recommending, @bizzey ? 😉

LilyMumsnet · 07/02/2023 21:04

Hi @bizzey

Sorry - it's our auto spam filter! CBD gummies are usually a big red flag but of course, that isn't the case here. We've reinstated your post now. Apologies for the inconvenience. Flowers

bizzey · 07/02/2023 21:04

I wish I knew 😅😅😂 !!

LilyMumsnet · 07/02/2023 21:04

Ironically, my post got hidden too...

bizzey · 07/02/2023 21:09

Thank you @LilyMumsnet .

B12 but in injections. I've just had another today and I could really tell I was due it. The bones in my legs ache and I can't string a sense together.

Well yesterday as a result of this thread I bought high strength vitamin D, and glucosamine.

Also spent quite a lots of time reading quantities on tescos vitamin packets.

Already take a multivitamin, but hoping that more D will help my mood, and glucosamine might help my dodgy knee...

ILoveYouMoreTheEnd · 09/02/2023 07:45

This is a fab thread thank you, I'm ordering some cherry supplements for my Husbands gout. Has anyone had any success with these? He already takes Allipurinol but still gets attacks and these on H&B got fab reviews. X

I tend to take as little as possible, depending on what I feel I need and do the best with my diet in the meantine.

Daily magnesium
Lion's mane for memory. It's the supplement I've noticed the most difference from.

Currently I have a cold, so additionally vitamin c and zinc
Extra magnesium as I'm taking vitamin d
Vitamin D
Quercetin
All seem to be holding it at bay.
Plus not eating until hungry, giving me a 14-18 hour window between evening meal and first meal of the day. I do this routinely but I think it's making a big difference to illness.

On and off b12 and folate or a good b vitamin. - need to do a course of this after being run down.
On and off bone broth

In addition I'm drinking a cup or two of nettle tea for its anti inflammatory properties. It can be dehydrating so keeping it to max 2

Then as needed
Green tea thins mucous
Dandelion tea if I feel my liver is a bit grumbly as it can be when ill.
Wrap up warm, fresh air and a walk.

Thanks, but the main reason I wanted to take magnesium was to improve my bladder control so I wouldn't go to the toilet as often as I do. I doubt the gel would help with that!

Look at natural anti histamines.
And it may seem counter intuitive but not limiting fluid before bed. If urine is more dilute it's less likely to be an irritant and cause frequency with little to pass.

I’m sure this thread has mentioned about three different types of magnesium. I’m totally confused. What are the magnesium bog standard tablets I buy in Superdrug then?

There are a few people on twitter who talk about magnesium in depth.
It would be a good place to start. They go into the different types and how much you are likely to need.
Magnesium is always part of a compound so good supplements tend to tell you how much elemental magnesium there is, which is important.

I take glyinate and get on well with it. I don't get on with threonate and I want to experiment with malate.

Which vitamins do you think have made a difference for you?

It made me really wired and twitchy 😂
Absolutely horrible, like static electricity.

GabrielleChanel · 09/02/2023 09:46

Interesting about the vitamin d

Buzzinwithbez · 09/02/2023 09:48

Someone said upthread they took 500mg magnesium for 6 months but that's likely only a third elemental magnesium so more like only 100mg and probably not enough.

I take 2 700mg magnesium glyinate capsules which is 300mg elemental magnesium.

@Buzzinwithbez do you recommend a specific lions mane supplement? There are so many to choose from!

I got mine from Baldwin's the herbalist. I haven't done loads of homework on it but I trust them to stock decent products.

L-Threonate helps me sleep and has helped my meno brain. It crosses the blood brain barrier and so is said to be good for anxiety.

KangarooKenny · 09/02/2023 12:17

I watch a lot of people on TikTok re magnesium and the thoughts are there that you need to be getting 500mg of elemental magnesium. That’s what you need to look for on the label.

Hepatica form Amazon.
Its not giving me 500mg on the 3 tablets I take, I’d love to find one that gives that, but it’s definitely helping me.

KangarooKenny · 09/02/2023 12:25

I’ve noticed that I’m less tired since taking D3 & K2.

KangarooKenny · 09/02/2023 12:26

And my joints are much improved since taking Omega 3 with good quality EPA & DHA.
