Which vitamins do you think have made a difference for you?

If you take vitamin supplements have you noticed a difference in how you feel?

OP posts:

I've been taking Vitamin D for the last couple of winters and I think it's made a slight improvement in energy levels. I also haven't had much in the way of colds, despite the whole house being ill with them on and off, when I used to always be case 0 in our house.

I also drink an effervescent multivit tablet most mornings (various brands, but they usually have Vit C, B vits, zinc, magnesium). I feel they give me a definite boost compared to when I used to have tea at breakfast instead.

Iron doesn't make a noticeable difference to me, and I've tried most of the major brands, including Floradix and Ferroglobin. I still take iron supplements a few times a week though, because I have monster periods - the absurd amount of iron I chuck out every few weeks makes me feel I must need it, surely.

I take B12 as don’t eat meat and vitamin D3 - important to get vitamin D3 as far superior to vitamin D so I’ve read many a time.

Multivitamins every day.
Iron suplements due to anemia.
Vitamin D from November-March.

Tried to take magnesium, but was getting an upset stomach, so stopped it quite quickly.

Try the magnesium gel rubbed into the back of your calves at night. Brilliant and no tummy issues 😊

Thanks, but the main reason I wanted to take magnesium was to improve my bladder control so I wouldn't go to the toilet as often as I do. I doubt the gel would help with that!

Vitamin d, magnesium, iron, l-tyrosine and a fish oil capsule most days. I don't know if I notice a difference to be honest, but I think I must be short of vitamin d and iron in particular so I keep taking them.

Vitamin D and Vitamin C

Overworkedwithadog · 05/02/2023 20:13

I'm a vegan (for the last year or so-previously veggie) so take a vegan multivitamin (with high b12), vegan omega 3 and choline.
I have had three verrucas (or whatever the plural is), two of which have persisted for ten years or more- gone, and a long standing wart on my finger- also gone! I don't now if it's the diet or the supplements, but very happy wit the results!

plumduck · 05/02/2023 20:14

Had long covid. Took vit c + zinc, magnesium and vitamin D. I think it's helped me fight off a few colds.

1 Multivitamin capsule
1 high dose iron capsule
1 high dose magnesium capsule
And a high dose vitamin D capsule a day
I pay around £60 a month for supplements

Where do you get all these please?

Why not? It's absorbed into your body just via a different method so as not to upset your stomach

Vitamin D. Blood test indicated a deficiency and once Vitamin D was prescribed, it changed my life. I know longer limp everywhere, my hair is thicker and my memory is much better.

poshme · 05/02/2023 20:24

This has all been really interesting. I have another thread going at the moment asking for tips to build my mental resilience, and having read this thread I think I need more vitamin D, and probably more iron.

tillytown · 05/02/2023 20:30

I had to take vitamin b and d tablets for a medical issue and they completely changed my periods. It went from 8 days to 3, I no longer need to use both tampons and pads, I don't get cramps, back ache, headaches, fever, nor that weird 'knees made of water' feeling. Its crazy how those two little tablets made my life so much better.
If anyone wants to try them, you'll need a high dose of vitamin d, and the vitamin b complete complex - both are nearly always 3 for 2 at Tesco and Wilko

Bitteralmond · 05/02/2023 20:32

Just be aware that you can overdose on Vitamin D, I think extremely high doses lead to calcification of the arteries. It is a hormone, and at one point the doctor put me on a mega dose and it made me really jumpy and irritable, a bit like PMS. Start on a fairly low dose.

Goldie2021 · 05/02/2023 20:33

Strath oral syrup. Helped me get out of the newborn foggy headspace. Helps after sleepless nights. I pop it in my morning smoothie. It comes in a table form but it didn’t give me the same energy boost as the liquid form.

skingraft · 05/02/2023 20:44

I take a gentle iron tablet that also has folic acid, zinc and b vitamins in it.
Also take a vitamin C, vitamin D and magnesium

Season0fTheWitch · 05/02/2023 20:53

Glucosamine for joints, magnesium helps digestion iirc, vit d, vit c, b12, zinc

feellikeanalien · 05/02/2023 20:57

I'm on Vitamin D prescribed by the doctor. Used to live in a warm sunny country. A couple of years after coming back to the UK I thought I was developing arthritis. I had sore bones and had pain if I walked too much. It has absolutely transformed me. I was very deficient in Vitamin D according to the blood test.

Now I would like to find something that helps me to sleep through the night. I don't remember the last time I went to sleep and didn't wake up till morning. On a good night I'll only wake up twice, on a bad night four or five times.

Does magnesium help?

Cadburysucks · 05/02/2023 20:57

Vitamin b12 complex, gives me a lot of energy, also magnesium before bed, helps me sleep better.

Woolandwonder · 05/02/2023 20:58

B5 and Magnesium for restless legs. Really helps and notice when I've missed a few days.

UB40andaglassofwine · 05/02/2023 21:02

@Candlesamdyoga I get them from Purolabs and Hey nutrition both online :)

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 05/02/2023 21:06

Iron. I go with a liquid one with extra B vitamins. But the Iron definitely makes a difference.

CurrentHun · 05/02/2023 21:07

I’m sure this thread has mentioned about three different types of magnesium. I’m totally confused. What are the magnesium bog standard tablets I buy in Superdrug then?

PinkSyCo · 05/02/2023 21:12

Vit D. I am dark skinned and got quite seriously ill-doctor told me she had never recorded such low levels- a few years ago, so make sure I take a supplement every day.
