If you take vitamin supplements have you noticed a difference in how you feel?

Clean marine krill oil (omegas and rosehip oil) supplements for me. Noticed a clear difference in mood (pms) intensity of period pains and sorry, TMI, but javelin ass occurance.

Vit D
Vit B complex
Vit C
Glucosamine

I definitely notice my joints creaking less which I put down to the glucosamine. The Vit D I take because I think I should and the B vits are because I like a drink.

1 Multivitamin capsule
1 high dose iron capsule
1 high dose magnesium capsule
And a high dose vitamin D capsule a day
I pay around £60 a month for supplements

NanaRant · 05/02/2023 17:33

I take loads of supplements, but the main ones I would recomend for general use are:
Vit B Complex (wholefood) - energising, so take in the morning
Fish Oils
Magnesium (Magnesium threonate is excellent for mood) and Epsom salts baths

Suedomin · 05/02/2023 17:34

I have been much healthier and had fewer illnesses since I stated taking vitamin D

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 05/02/2023 17:41

L-lysine, I got really really bad coldsores, top and bottom lip covered, several times a year. At least 3 cold sores a month, and not just on my mouth, around my nose and eyes.

Got really bad with mask wearing during covid. Started taking L-lysine the frequency has dropped considerably. I still get them but only every couple of months now and only one at a time.

I need to take iron but I actually want to take one that will constipate me a bit (I know it’s ridiculous but I have IBSD) can anyone recommend one? What dosage do I need?

Not sure if anyone else has recommend this but I take active iron, very gentle on the stomach and can be taken on an empty stomach

May I ask where you get your Magnesium from please?

NanaRant · 05/02/2023 18:05

@TomatoSandwiches - usually from Amazon :-) I buy large tubs of Epsom Salts which lasts ages, and whatever cheapest Magnesium Threonate at the time. I like Time Health Supplements in general as they are excellent quality. Hope this helps (Threonate is expensive but it does wonders for my peri-menopausal state and is life changing for my adult son who has Aspergers).

bellac11 · 05/02/2023 18:08

I take quite a lot of vitamins, plus calcium, zinc, magnesium and iron

I havent noticed anything improving, this will be the 4th month

My nails are very ridged in both directions and I thought that might change having taken supplements

Girasoli · 05/02/2023 18:14

I take the bassets chewy pomegranate and raspberry ones...no idea if they are doing anything but they taste really nice!

2023username02 · 05/02/2023 18:15

Magnesium Oxide for hormonal headaches

SelinaKant · 05/02/2023 18:20

Vid D = 5000 iu per day
Vit K2
Magnesium
L-Lysine
Chaga

wp65 · 05/02/2023 18:21

Please can I ask what is possibly a stupid question to the vitamin experts on this thread - is a daily multivitamin enough to deal with eg low iron and low vitamin d? I have started taking one because I feel exhausted all the time, but dunno if I should be more precise?

imnottoofussed · 05/02/2023 18:22

Which magnesium should I be taking for improved sleep?

ButteryNuts · 05/02/2023 18:24

Vit D. It's the only vitamin i've actually noticed a difference taking. If i forget for a few weeks my joints are sore and stiff and my hands don't grip properly, start taking again and it goes away.

Baldieheid · 05/02/2023 18:28

Vitamin D on GPS advice after some blood tests. First winter I've ever not felt exhausted the whole time. GP says everyone in Scotland should be on it.

ladyofshertonabbas · 05/02/2023 18:28

silica for string nails

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 05/02/2023 18:31

Vital Proteins collagen peptides. Recommend on another thread and the difference it has made to my hair and nails is amazing

UnbeatenMum · 05/02/2023 18:34

Vitamin D cured my winter depression.
Vitamin C and Zinc sometimes seem to help with cold symptoms/duration.
Iron when I was actually anaemic after giving birth but I don't take it regularly.

BooCrew · 05/02/2023 18:35

Vit D - more cheerful is the perfect way of describing the difference. If I start feeling a bit glum I invariably realise I've forgotten to take it for a few days. I take 4000 IU from about October to April and no longer feel angry and claustrophobic in January.

squidgem · 05/02/2023 18:37

Vitamin D
I've found magnesium has been amazing with improving my sleep.

This! I sometimes feel guilty that they don’t feel like they are proper grown up vitamins, but because they taste good I actually remember to take them. Compliance is the biggest issue with supplements (where people buy them with good intentions, but then they just sit unused in the cupboard).

I take a vitamin D spray at the same time too. I echo what others have said. It really helps with bone and joint pain. I had to have a blood test recently for a mystery illness and the Dr exclaimed that my vitamin D levels were where they should be “unlike almost everyone else in Scotland” 😅

Dancingwithabroomstick · 05/02/2023 18:52

@Casilero What is the tea please?
