I am exactly as my username says, so I just need some reassurance that I’m worrying for no reason at all and it will be fine!

I had to buy a wire for my i phone charger today, and also a plug- I told them it was an iphone 13 and showed it to them, and they said it needed a usb c cable. I said I thought it was the B but they said that only refers to the fitting for the plug, and the plug they were selling me was for a C. So they went and got me the C and I bought it and I went home and surprise surprise it doesn’t fit my phone.

I’m kicking myself now because my guy instinct said he was wrong but he was so insistent and was talking over me each time I was trying to explain it- it’s a big high street brand so I stupidly trusted him and bought that one.

obviously I’ll take it back tomorrow but I’m just a bit worried they deny it or say they can’t swap it because I’ve opened the packaging and unwrapped the wire (I had to to try and fit it in my phone) but I’ve put it back in the box and wrapped it as best as I could, it was £35 so I’m just a bit worried they won’t swap it or take it back because obviously it’s a lot of money. Like I said in my username, I’m a stresser and have bad anxiety so I’m a bit worried about it tonight!

has anyone got any knowledge about this?! Absolutely kicking myself!

Since you've opened it they might not take it back - be prepared.

That’s what I’m worried about 😞 I had to open it to check that it actually fitted but now I’m worried they won’t take it back because of that.
im so annoyed at him for talking over me constantly and acting like I knew nothing and was stupid, he was so bloody patronising and the only reason I was asking is because it wasn’t possible just to pick it up and check the back for details of which iPhone it fitted, you had to pick a card and take it up to the till and they brought the product out and that’s when I double checked that the card was the right wire I’ve had before. But most of all I’m annoyed at myself for standing passively and not standing my ground! Absolutely kicking myself

What shop is it?

Most of the big high street stores will give a credit note, or swap for the right one. It doesn't matter that you've opened the box.

TokyoSushi · 16/01/2023 22:46

Are you absolutely certain it doesn't fit? Just because I have an iPhone 13 and that's a USB C...

stresser · 16/01/2023 22:48

Sorry I made a typo on here- it’s an iPhone 12 I’ve got not 13… but I DEFINITELY told him the correct one (12) because I went into my settings in front of him and went down the device details to show him the exact model haha

tesco, a credit note or swap would be perfect so I can buy the right one, it’s good to know it might be ok even though it’s been opened!

Just tell them nicely tomo that they gave you the wrong one. Take the plug part with you and see how it goes. There’s nothing you can change between now and tomorrow.

BrownDaisy · 16/01/2023 22:50

£35 for a phone charger!
Does it bring you breakfast in bed as well?

Wow what a nasty person you are! I’d rather be stupid (like you’re implying i am) than snidey

iPhone 12 and 13 are both c. I think you’re confused on the model type.

I know! Plus the plug on top aswell. I’m not joking unfortunately, although in part that’s my fault as I needed the 2m charger as the plugs in our house are quite far away unfortunately, I think the 1m version would be cheaper!

They really should take it back for you in this case. If one Tesco say no, try another or email head office. You brought the wrong one because of their advice. Hope you get sorted!

SugarCookieMonster · 16/01/2023 22:52

Did the person who spoke to you also check the item out through the till? If so the employee name or an employee number will be on the receipt. They should be able to corroborate.

Be very clear that you asked for a USB B cable but we’re advised you’d need a C. If it’s an electrical store (Apple store, Currys etc) their employees should have some training to advise. If not, their staff shouldn’t be offering that type of advice if they don’t accept returns.

PugInTheHouse · 16/01/2023 22:52

They're about £7 next day delivery on amazon.

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/01/2023 22:52

Try and find the person that served you and swap it.

dementedpixie · 16/01/2023 22:52

Is it a lightning cable for that iPhone?

Honestly don't give it a second thought.

Opened packaging makes no difference to them. They'll swap for the correct one if you've got the receipt.

dementedpixie · 16/01/2023 22:54

Can you show a picture of the charging port on your phone?

RoseslnTheHospital · 16/01/2023 22:54

Yes, about to say the same. It's a lightning cable, not a usb at all, unless you're referring to the end that slots into the electrical plug?

OnTheBoardwalk · 16/01/2023 22:54

Since you opened it they prob won’t be able to resell it so might be difficult

just keep telling them you asked for advice as was told which one to buy. If you can’t remember the name of the person who advised you just keep telling them the time you were there

What? Why would you hope it’s c? If you’ve a c and it doesn’t fit?

Havetoast · 16/01/2023 22:55

You can get cheap usb adapters c to a and vice versa if they don’t take the cable back

i misread- I’m hoping I’m confused and making a silly mistake and it actually fits!
