I am exactly as my username says, so I just need some reassurance that I’m worrying for no reason at all and it will be fine!

I had to buy a wire for my i phone charger today, and also a plug- I told them it was an iphone 13 and showed it to them, and they said it needed a usb c cable. I said I thought it was the B but they said that only refers to the fitting for the plug, and the plug they were selling me was for a C. So they went and got me the C and I bought it and I went home and surprise surprise it doesn’t fit my phone.

I’m kicking myself now because my guy instinct said he was wrong but he was so insistent and was talking over me each time I was trying to explain it- it’s a big high street brand so I stupidly trusted him and bought that one.

obviously I’ll take it back tomorrow but I’m just a bit worried they deny it or say they can’t swap it because I’ve opened the packaging and unwrapped the wire (I had to to try and fit it in my phone) but I’ve put it back in the box and wrapped it as best as I could, it was £35 so I’m just a bit worried they won’t swap it or take it back because obviously it’s a lot of money. Like I said in my username, I’m a stresser and have bad anxiety so I’m a bit worried about it tonight!

has anyone got any knowledge about this?! Absolutely kicking myself!

just catching up on all the replies since last night!

thanks everyone for the help: I took it back to Tesco this morning and there was no hassle whatsoever about changing it over. The person just said straight away that it was the wrong one and swapped it over. Ive not got a usb c to lightening cable. I also got a partial refund as the correct charger was only £19 although that’s for the 1meter one not the 2meter, so I’ll need to get an extension cable which isn’t too much of a hassle anyway.

thanks again for all the help, I was stressing about nothing it seems!

Glad you got it sorted and your refund.
Anxiety will make you stress about nothing, Many of us have been there, as you plod along in life you’ll get plenty of anxiety inducing situations, hopefully all the mental preparation it brings will eventually give you more confidence once you know you can face these situations just fine.

I'm glad the OP got their refund and didn't need to CANCEL THE CHEQUE!

Darls3000 · 18/01/2023 17:46

This is 100% their issue. Be. Near to them that they reassured you repeatedly that it would fit and now it doesn't. Not your issue. Ask for a refund and don't apologise. You'll be fine.

PetuniaT · 18/01/2023 17:47

Why didn't you try it in the shop? If it didn't fit there and then then he would have had to bring the correct one.

😂 at least read some of the recent posts on a 10 page thread eh.

Its amazing in 10 pages no one suggested to try it in the shop or that it would be fine to ask for a refund Hmm

I’ve got an IPhone 13 and it’s a FireWire cable. Some of the plugs though have usb c on one end and FireWire on the other. - our newer iPads are usb c both ends of the wire. But my iPhone 13 definitely needs a FireWire at the phone end.

Jem57 · 18/01/2023 18:36

Don’t stress our Tesco will change anything.

LizzyA123 · 18/01/2023 18:37

The cable you should have been given with that adapter should be usb c at one end and lighting at the other or you can use a normal usb to lightning cable with a normal usb adapter.

Sorry I made a typo on here- it’s an iPhone 12 I’ve got not 13… but I DEFINITELY told him the correct one (12) because I went into my settings in front of him and went down the device details to show him the exact model haha

Sure they both take the same cable but it usually says on the pack if it fits an iPhone. Poundland sell iPhone cables

Are you absolutely certain it doesn't fit? Just because I have an iPhone 13 and that's a USB C...

I have an iPhone 13 mini and it’s the old style Apple connection, not the USB-C like the standard iPhone 13 and 13 pro is

It doesn’t. It has a Lightning cable. FireWire has never been used for iPhones unless for some reason you’ve modified your iPhone to resemble a MacBook from 1999.

All iPhones, including the various models of iPhone 13, have Lightning ports. There is no iPhone with a USB-C port yet. Folk are getting muddled with their iPads.

Lindyloomillion1 · 18/01/2023 19:31

Just for next time - I always open the packaging of anything I've bought so it can be resealed easily if I need to return it. Save the cardboard tags of clothes I've bought while I try them on and think about it. Never had any problems with returning items as they look and are the same as when I bought them.
Good luck with your return. They advised you wrongly, their mistake

I think you are correct, actually. This is the first iPhone I’ve had and I thought the standard iPhone 13 had a USB-C but I think they have a USB-C to lightening cable, and that is what has confused me. Pretty sure my iphone 13 mini came with USB-B to lightening cable.

KateKateLee · 18/01/2023 19:43

I’d be kicking myself for spending £35. You could buy at least 3 chargers and plugs for that on Amazon.

Lapun · 18/01/2023 19:46

I read this thread. Tried a USB c or three and put it in my iPhone 13 ( checked that it is 13 and mine takes the old USB and NOT the most modern one, which I use on my newest iPad. That is odd so not all 13s use the newest USB….bought my iPhone at John Lewis so I’m going to ask them.

CountryMouse22 · 18/01/2023 19:51

Ask to see the manager if you get grief and tell him/her how you were treated and talked over.

No no no no.

Your iPhone 13 has a proprietary Apple Lightning port. Please do not attempt to put a USB-C cable in there. You will damage it. The staff at John Lewis will tell you exactly the same.

csigeek · 18/01/2023 19:56

Ignore the PP’s telling it’s the right one, it is not.
even the iPhone 14 uses a lightening connection, this is the end that goes into your phone. The other end that goes into the plug can be either usb b or usb c and as you were buying a new plug that didn’t matter. the sales person should have known better as not one iPhone has a usb c charging port, only some iPads do.
to be honest, unless you have any real
reason to I wouldn’t bother with Apple products and I’d pay about £8 for 2m or more lightening cable from Amazon.

Lapun · 18/01/2023 19:57

Thank you for the advice. Sons both have iPhone 13s and we all use the same cables. I won’t force the USB C into my iPhone. I love it too much to even bother once I had a look! Interesting conversation. I bought an iMac thinking it would be like my iPad…..it isn’t. Not intuitive and like a foreign enemy glaring at me ..waste of money. You

RedRiverShore3 · 18/01/2023 20:06

The new Apple TV remote uses USB C, fortunately I already had one for my iPad.

Jillybloop393 · 18/01/2023 20:09

Be polite, stay pleasant .... you purchased that one on their advice ..... their mistake, not yours. Don't leave unless they exchange, if necessary take contact details of head office, and a name, because you WILL take it further. Honestly, I wouldn't give it another moments thought. Go in expecting an exchange, be confident - I would be be!

Newnamefor23 · 18/01/2023 20:18

Poundland - £1 or their better ones £2.50.

None last that long whether you spend £1 or shedloads more.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 18/01/2023 20:26

I wouldn’t think they’d take it back once it’s been opened and can’t be resold at full price.
maybe you can sell it at a slight loss via ebay or FB?

Singingalong · 18/01/2023 21:00

Next time buy it on Shine. It’s around £1.50
