Annoyed at myself- shop incident

I am exactly as my username says, so I just need some reassurance that I’m worrying for no reason at all and it will be fine!

I had to buy a wire for my i phone charger today, and also a plug- I told them it was an iphone 13 and showed it to them, and they said it needed a usb c cable. I said I thought it was the B but they said that only refers to the fitting for the plug, and the plug they were selling me was for a C. So they went and got me the C and I bought it and I went home and surprise surprise it doesn’t fit my phone.

I’m kicking myself now because my guy instinct said he was wrong but he was so insistent and was talking over me each time I was trying to explain it- it’s a big high street brand so I stupidly trusted him and bought that one.

obviously I’ll take it back tomorrow but I’m just a bit worried they deny it or say they can’t swap it because I’ve opened the packaging and unwrapped the wire (I had to to try and fit it in my phone) but I’ve put it back in the box and wrapped it as best as I could, it was £35 so I’m just a bit worried they won’t swap it or take it back because obviously it’s a lot of money. Like I said in my username, I’m a stresser and have bad anxiety so I’m a bit worried about it tonight!

has anyone got any knowledge about this?! Absolutely kicking myself!

You can get them for a couple of quid on eBay. Different lengths as well. I would never pay that much on a charger.

I wouldn't buy a cheap, fake charger. There are so many instances of them catching fire.

I have a relatively new iPhone 13 and it’s definitely a lightning charger not a USB C

It’s the other end that’s confusing you. It is the right charger for your phone but you would need a different charger block (the ‘plug’ part) to fit into your wall. This type are faster but if you don’t want to buy the new block then you’d need to buy the other charger.

So both ends of the wire are the exact same and neither fit in the phone

The c part is fine if you have bought a plug too that fits it, iPhone 12 or 13 doesn't have a c charging port, it's a lightning one

The plug is fine, the cable is wrong. With that plug you can use a lightning to usb c cable. A lightning to usb 2.0 cable would work with a usb 2.0 plug.

Both USB-C, which is what the OP has bought, and USB will work. But you’ll need the USB-C charger block for the USB-C one to be useable (if you don’t have a USB-C socket already in your house.)

Sorry if I’m being stupid but I don’t quite follow- I’ve tried both ends of the wire and neither fit my phone but both ends fit the plug itself

She needs a lightning to usb c cable.

You need a lightning port at one end and either a usb or usb c at the other. New iPhones come with usb c cables but no plug.

Tesco should swap it for you without a problem

As a general rule, staff in shops like this know naff all about tech and are usually just trying to sell you the most expensive thing they can get away with.
